I wouldn’t call Freeman exactly average, 3 time Cage Rage champion and Vale Tudo champion, beat Frank Mir, Travis Fulton and Ricco Rodriquez. Pretty big career points on those
Far from Average. Specially at that time
I would, Fulton isn't elite he just has a bunch of nobodies from local promotions on his record, and the win over Rodriguez was in 2013, far past both of their primes. Other than the Mir win, he has no wins over elite fighters.

Have you guys done a "top 10 great fights you probably didn't know happened"? Some examples, are Raphael Assuncao vs Jorge Masvidal, BJ Penn vs Lyoto Machida at heavyweight, and Jim Miller vs Frankie Edgar fought on the New Jersey regional scene. If you haven't done this video already, i'm sure you could find a lot more.

So there is a huge caveat to that.

Serra had a 5-4 UFC record when he fought GSP and I would argue he lost the fight against Lytle that got him that title shot, especially considering Lytle won the rematch, so he had no business even being in that fight with Georges.
His previous wins over Edwards, Menjivar, Curran and Dullanty are above average wins for sure, but they were at 155 not 170. He's the UFC equivalent of the Brooklyn Brawler

I gotta say from experience, hearing horrible news like this makes a lot of unneccessary things very insignificant. It's hard to describe but it gives you a weird feeling of purpose and freedom that nothing else can provide.
