As I scroll Through some of the questions and comments I almost feel like a second interview is in order. One thing I wanted to touch on is that all though I was in this tumultuous toxic narcissistic abusive relationship, I Was feeding the beast. I was setting the tone for how I was being treated. I need to take ownership, because ultimately I Gave my power away. No one can take it without your permission. Once again thank you Dave!
I think I have a girl crush, lol. Your insight is powerful and I wish I had had exposure to your brand of wisdom when I was navigating my own personal hell. It’s taken me a lot of years to recover and I’m coming into my own at the dawn of my 6th decade. Listening to you, though, gave me a stark realization that I am still subjecting myself to various forms of abuse, even self inflicted, because that is where my comfort zone lies. I made a promise to myself today to stop. Thank you for your message and it is one that every young woman needs to hear. I will be searching out more of your content.

This is my favorite interview ever!! I'm almost 69 and my husband and I divorced after 33 years of marriage. It was devastating and infidelity made it that much worse. I enrolled in massage school and did an 18 month program at age 53. Imagine getting naked on the table with mostly 20 and 30 year olds!! (Not together and under a sheet...but still) 😱 I worked as an LMT for 11 years and have chosen retirement due to COVID and an achy, aging body. It has been an amazing journey!!! Hard but worth it. I'm not seeking a relationship now because, like Emily, I love my solitude. Especially after being controlled for so many years. Thank you for airing this!!!❤️

Related to Emily so much. Right down to her personality, divorce, parenting, and how she feels about dating/relationship. My ex-husband's name is actually Richard so I laughed at how she called him Richard in the book /Dick for short. I went into Amazon while watching and bought her Kindle edition book so I could read it after this is over! Thanks Emily and Dave, this was so enjoyable.

Canadian here, only a few hours from Blake and I never got the "birds and the bees" talk either. However, it wasn't a case of "purity culture" by any means. I think it was just a discomfort thing on my parents behalf.
Wow, she's incredible and dropping so much wisdom. When she spoke about financial abuse, that really scared me. I remembered being in a past relationship where my partner wanted me to quit my job and everything and to just focus on being his wife and a stay at home mother. That thought freaked me out so much! I would never want to be so reliant on a man or on anyone else for that matter.

Such a relatable woman! She's been through a lot but she also overcame it and persevered and raised her children and continued to be a success. Love hearing stories like this. Great interview and thanks for really giving her a platform to speak on. So many interviewers just cut the person off or move on to the next question as if what they said didn't matter.
Dave speaks to listen not to respond, He also is fully engaged in the conversation. That’s what makes his interviews interesting i think.
Dang this video made me cry in the best possible way!! I was in a nasty emotional, physical, financial abusive marriage. It was so hard.to get out of. My family never believed me after 5 years of being with him, they all thought he was this good guy and put him on a pedestal... so I had no support when i spoke out and needed to leave. I literally had to run away one day after work and it was nasty. I like your words about being in a good place right now. It's been 5years since I left and I make sure my words are heard, and I. Outspoken about what I need and want/don't want in a relationship. Is there a place locally I can buy your book? I'm in grimsby (next door to hamilton)

So excited to listen to this! Blake is the greatest, I liked him a lot on Clare/tayshia’s season but he is absolutely killing it this season. Him and Katie are also so great together, I saw them being a great match even before she was announced as the bachelorette. Really hope they ended up together 🥺😍

I'm almost 60, I experienced the same thing as Emily. Married twice n had children with my first husband. My 2nd husband (ex now - 20 years relationship) was toxic n I discovered that he's a narcissist, we fought a lot n made me feel like dirt after the love bombing. He (my 2nd husband) cheated on me n is a great liar. He shifted all the blames on me. He abused me, financially (i was the breadwinner), emotionally n physically. Now I'm free from this toxic man... I focus on self love and my children. ♥️🤗

Great interview. My Mom escaped from my abusive father with me and my bro when we were teenagers too, and it couldnt have happened without support from my Aunts.
My grandma did the same with my mom, back in the 1950’s. Thanks to her own inner strength and perseverance, along with support from her siblings, they had much better lives than they would have if she’d stayed. My sister and I are SO grateful that our grandmother interrupted the cycle of abuse. Our lives today are immeasurably better as a result.

What a conversation! I find the money part fascinating. Stephan and I talk very openly about it, and we have each had times where one makes more than the other, and there was a time when he made all of it. I struggled the most when I was home not working with three little kids and we struggled, not because he made me feel bad but because I felt guilty for not financially contributing.

What a great interview and woman... at times I felt like watching a lifetime movie... I totally understand the fact she would only be in a relationship now if everything fell into place. I feel exactly the same way... did you catch what she said at the end about the timing of her podcast, would not surprise if she had Katie and Blake... listening to her, I really feel Katie would get along with her

A quick reply to the question of romanticizing unhealthy 'ended' relationships, I feel I personally experienced this for the reason of wanting to imagine I had a happy girlfriend role as opposed to admitting I was allowing myself to be in yet another victim role. If I didn't romanticize it, then I'd have to see the ugly truth, & that's soul crushing.
