    I took the Maxima to Nissan Dealer. The TECH was convinced about the transmission having something problems.The Manager of the Service Department was not convinced, and suggested I wasn't taking care of the car.This was in front of other customers. I told the manager that many people have been having this issue and that it was all over the internet.I told him that Nissan has extended the warranty due to such issues. They want to keep the car overnight to test it. They were very resistant.

    I'm not saying its your fault why the CVT overheated because it should be able to handle any of your inputs but you seem to be just revving the engine up and down a lot causing the transmission to vary a lot and causing heat to build up I know in this case it was just for demonstration purposes. I had a 2011 Altima that sounded the same way but once I change the transmission fluid the sound went away. I would just drive hard for about 3 minutes and then the transmission would start whining but then I change the transmission fluid and it was gone. but overall especially going up hills it looks like you're accelerating and then letting off the pedal and accelerating again closing lots of heat

  • @BenjaminEsposti
    @BenjaminEsposti 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Only occurs on long drives over hilly roads?
    Sounds like it is overheating, something must be wrong with the cooling of the transmission, or the design is flawed.

      It's easy to love a car you don't have long enough to have to deal with the problems and breakdowns. These Renault/Nissans are suffering from French reliability. After the 3rd or 4th hear, many of these French Nissans start falling apart.

    • @Mabeylater293
      @Mabeylater293 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol, your insanity is hilarious. You attempt to refute my assertion that nissans fall apart after the 3rd year with a link who's radar only extends to the third year. (what was that you said about bs land again? Lol!!)
      Now for a reality check.
      4.bp.blogspot.com/-hXUl5Yv3k3M/VFAr65_3ALI/AAAAAAARzBs/xAsH3oADHGI/s1600/CR-REL.jpg - Consumer Reports ranks Nissan BELOW the average and that's with a 6point improvement! Nissan's worse performer, the Nissan Pathfinder, is even worse than any car from the 6 lower ranked brand's makes and models. Nissan is ranked as the worst Japanese brand. Ouch!
      money.cnn.com/2014/12/14/autos/nissan-customer-satisfaction-consumer-reports/ - not only is Consumer Reports dominance over jd power acknowledged, but readers of CR are responding to the overwhelming negativity Renault/Nissan has planted within their designs.
      www.carscoops.com/2014/10/survey-says-get-lexus-if-you-want.html -survey says: Nissan sucks (if you want reliability)
      The evidence is overwhelming. From consumer Report's USED CAR TO AVOID LIST to carsurvey."org's reviews of maxima's and Altima's to Renault's partnership, Nissan has allowed Renault to build a French influenced reliability problem. Get Renault and their management out of the picture, and Nissan will improve back to ranking right behind Yoyota and Honda. Speaking of Toyota and Honda they are far better choices than a Nissan. Even your link shows that.

    • @Mabeylater293
      @Mabeylater293 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Reliability is my focus. If you want to divert to sales as your way of ignoring Nissans's not so great reliability since the Renault partnership, be my guest. The reliability gap between Honda/Toyota and Nissan has increased thanks to Renault. Nissan, with it's French CEO, is not focused on reliability. Whether engines come from Mercedes or whether nissans own engines are cheapened at the expense of quality, the narrative is the same - the French reputation for unreliability is now a Nissan problem. Reliability has never been the priority of French automaker Renault and that is the French characteristic that is now a characteristic of Nissan.

    i recently added a transmission cooler to my cvt. the overheating has decreased dramatically going up long steep hills. i would suggest people to fill your cvt fluid to the lower level and add transmission cooler ... i have meduim sized tranny cooler used for a truck plate and fin... and it works great...lol

    • @chrischoy9
      @chrischoy9 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Eric Ash That's why you should go for a car with a traditional automatic or manual

    • @Mabeylater293
      @Mabeylater293 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The "traditional" automatic in the previous generation maxima was junk. Google 2004 Nissan maxima transmissions problems and watch as you computer sparks and smokes from search result overload. Renault makes junk, traditional automatic or not.

    I just mentioned in my other videos, that the fluid was changed at 43000 miles and then at 93000 miles.. both of these were well before the specified 60,000 and nissans claim that the fluid could in fact last to 100k. The 60k is just a check of fluid to see if its still good. But to make it clearer this happened around 30k also. I thought nothing of the CVT overheating and the fail safe engaging up hills on long drives.

  • @jeremyashley1
    @jeremyashley1  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The CVT fluid was changed and there was an improvement up hills. Recommended interval of service is 60K miles. I changed the CVT fluid at 40K and at 90K. Uphill performance has improved with very little whining unless I do hard acceleration up a fair steep hill. This CVT is not good for high torque applications as I have heard twice so far. The car has very good power on flat ground but that Whining sound appears going 80 mph up a reasonable steep hill. On Flat ground the car is very good.

    UPDATE::: THE 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA CVT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AN ERROR CODE 1778. FOUR OTHER CODES WERE PULLED IN TOTAL. THE OVERALL DIAGNOSIS IS "COMPLETE CVT TRANSMISSION FAILURE". THE RECOMMENDED ACTION IS REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE VALVE BODY (SOLENOIDS) WHICH CHANGE THE GEARS AND REPROGRAMMING OF THE CVT COMPUTER. I WAS TOLD ITS BETTER TO CHANGE THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION AT COST OF $5,500.00 DOLLARS. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS. THIS PROBLEM CODE OCCURRED AT 44K MILES, 65K MILES, AND 94K MILES. EACH TIME IT WAS UNDIAGNOSABLE SINCE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT STAY ON - IT TURNED ITSELF OFF. I WAS ABLE TO GET THIS DIAGNOSED WITH A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AT 124,000 MILES. I HAVE MY FINGERS CROSSED.... NISSAN BETTER HELP WITH THE REPLACEMENT.....

    Perhaps your problem is because your car is upside down! Please repost with the picture corrected.

  • @jeremyashley1
    @jeremyashley1  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    yea, a fluid change It definitely helped out. But my recent drive up to Flag 120 miles up elevation should me that the issue isn't entirely gone. The altima is known to be a little more reliable than the Maxima, I think. Maybe the 3.5 engine and heavier load of the Maxima is too much for the CVT belt... or like the Technical bulliten states and engineers -- the Step up motor - the mechanism that engages the "CVT belt is defective under heavy torque"

  • @jeremyashley1
    @jeremyashley1  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Step UP Motor ENGINE CODE Disappeared and has not appeared since. So there is no diagnosis for the dealer - $100. I changed the CVT drain & fill and this has improved performance overall. I'm happy. But, I know it still whines if I do a hard acceleration up a fair steep hill for an extended period of time 20-60 miles if your really pushing the car and trying to have fun with it.This is the reason i bought the car because its fun to drive in such conditions. The CVT drains the power.

  • @jeremyashley1
    @jeremyashley1  8 ปีที่แล้ว

    THE CVT TRANSMISSION IS PRONE TO OVER HEATING EVEN GOING UP MEDIUM TO STEEP HILLS. IF YOU LIVE IN A HOT CLIMATE AS WELL. THE CVT FLUID NEEDS TO BE RUN AT THE LOWER END OF THE FILL LINE TO COMPENSATE FOR THE EXPANSION OF THE FLUID. I INSTALLED AN OIL COOLER B&M 70264 SuperCooler Automatic Transmission Cooler. after the cooler install i rarely have the cvt whine on me even up these hillls in the video.

    Yes, This problem with the CVT which is accompanied by Whining, Overheating, and High RPM and no acceleration is NOT NORMAL... LET ME REPEAT ITS NOT NORMAL. I have worked on cars before and I have owned 3 maxima's so far. Believe me it this happen your car you would be upset and very disappointed. Believe its not normal. There is something wrong with this CVT.... and its reported in many cases to Nissan who doesnt want to do nothing about it.

    I was a little upset because the Manager was suggesting that the customer was faulty and not the product, even though there is a technical bulletin on the issue, problems with the step up motor, and other issues, nissan is aware of. This really pisses me off that he won't admit it and is trying to put the issue on me, and in addition put me through this shit. I will have to leave it overnight possibly with another dealer. This issue only occurs on long drives up hills on high speed roads.

    @jeremyashley1  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have worked on Cars myself and in addition owned 3 maximas so far. So believe me if this happened you would be pist as well. But Nissans claim is that it must be the fault of the customer. But numerous reports from Nissan owners and technical bullitens shed light on the CVT as a terrible choice for the 3.5 liter engine.

    did you ever fix that problem my car is doing the same thing maybe you can help me

  • @jeremyashley1
    @jeremyashley1  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Correct you should maintain a steady speed. I was accelerating deliberately to replicate the issue. But IF YOUR GETTING A WHINE like me THAN YOU GOT A DEFECTIVE TRANNY. Sorry to say - sign of problems to come in the future. I have owned three maximas and given the 3.5 and about 300hp engine you should NOT have to slow down AT ALL, and definitely NOT to allow anything to Cool. The engine is equipped with a Transmission Fluid and Oil Cooler this is in addition to the stock design.

    Yes I agree that that new CVT sucks. My 06,3.5 SE Altima would average 900km/560mile per tank. My maxima get 700km/430miles per tank. On the highway. Should of stay with its regular transmissions. Or used the 6 speed from the Ser. Have been plzed yet since I got this maxima

    Nissan Better Fixed this CVT quark because it is seriously getting in the way of my Maxima Fetish. I took the car in for a trade appriasel and the dealer tried to rip me off with 12,000 trade in offer and an overpriced MSRP on a new 2013 maxima. I tell you Nissan Dealers won't even buy their own Maxima's back without a very severe cut in the price. I 'm starting to think of the Infiniti G36 3.7 liter with a Normal Tranny or a Acura TL or BMW 335. Nissan is fucking up with this CVT.

  • @xpandergt

  • @jeremyashley1
    @jeremyashley1  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I didn't know Nissan was owned by Renault - I thought Nissan was a Japanese company. Yea your right when even Americans get involved they stop making a high quality product for some reason. I think this is a lot like FORD and GM making shitty cars to sell to the Government and then making money off the repair costs and parts. Nissan is really going down hill.

  • @Mabeylater293
    @Mabeylater293 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see. Im sorry u r having these issues. After Renault bought Nissan, nissans reliability has consistently gone down hill. Ghe older pre-Renault Nissan Maximas are still more reliable at 15+ years old then the newer ones out now. Its a shame, and nissan wouldnt have gotten away with it if buyers had only known of Renaults terrible reliability and renaults ownership/partnership with Nissan.

    UPDATE ---- I TOOOK THIS CAR INTO NISSAN.... THEY GAVE ME A DIAGNOSIS OF CATASTROPHIC TRANSMISSIONS FAILURE!!!!!! THAT WAS OVER ONE YEAR AGO. GUESS WHAT? I AM STILL DRIVING THE CAR WITH SAME TRANSMISSION........***LOL*** THESE NISSAN MECHANICS AND SERVICE PEOPLE ARE CROOOOOKS...... I STILL GOT THE SAME CVT AND CAR AND DRIVING IT TOO.......THERE IS STILL OVER HEATING OF THE TRANSMISSION IF ...I DRIVE THE CAR LIKE A """ FOUR DOOR SPORTS CAR""" . THIS CVT CANNOT HANDLE THE POWER OR LOAD LIKE A REAL TRANNNY. IF YOU WANT A CAR THAT JUST LOOOKS GOOD BUT PERFORMS INTERMITTENTLY AND THEN OVER HEATS, IS OVER PRICED, AND IS PRONE TO JUST NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL EVEN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ......THIS IS THE CAR FOR YOU. MAKE SURE NISSANS TAKES OF AT LEAST $70000- 80000 OFF THEIR ASKING PRICE........ BECAUSE ITS NOT WORTH THE 38000K ASKING PRICE. THATS WHY THERE ARE HEAVY DISCOUNTS ON THIS CAR AT THE END OF THE YEAR ----- NO BODY IS BUYING. BESIDES THE DEALER PAYS 25,0000K FOR THIS CAR, SO ITS A HUGE MARK UP TO 38000K FOR THE NEW 2016 MODEL.

      Eric Ash Nissan fucked up with these transmissions big time but this time it looks like they are taking responsibility - they extended the warranty on all CVT transmissions to 120,000mi.
      I have a friend with a 2012 altima and he had it fail on him when the car was a year old.
      My dad had a 08 Altima with the same problem.
      Both transmissions replaced under warranty for free.
      It's a shame they no longer offer Maxima with a manual transmission - you would love it.
      Get yourself a new transmission while you can - there's a major problem with these!!!

    The generation before yours got hit pretty hard in reliability, bad transmissions, (cvt,and the 4-5speeds), bad timing chains, bad motormounts, badA/C, bad suspension, oil consumption. Just read the consumer reviews under the USED CAR tab at edmunds (dot) com for the 2004 nissan maxima. Many ticked off owners.

    OVERALL THE CVT OVER HEATS DUE TO LACK OF COOLING. THE VALVE BODY HAS BEEEN CHANGED AND A NEW CVT HAS COME OUT SINCE THIS 2010 MODEL. SO OVERALL THE ISSUES WITH THIS CAR ARE REAL.

    LOL.... I here you. I will trade this car ASAP for something with a real transmission. Nissan just lost a loyal customer with this job. Nissan wouldn't even replace the Step up motor (valve body) which is the standard fix for this issue. And THE DEALER IS FUCKKKING CROOK -- Uneducated egotistical salesman and Repair shop managers are really just salesman trying to make money of you. They dont realize they wouldnt even have a job if We didn't buy there cars. Just to greedy and dumb...

  • @jeremyashley1
    @jeremyashley1  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    THE DEALER WON'T EVEN BUY THE MAXIMA BACK without a sever cut in the trade in value. Dealers Pay $25,000 for the car and want to sell it for $40,000k and then they offer no support when your car get issues. NISSAN NEEDS TO FIX THE MAXIMA CVT ISSUE. THE MAXIMA its no longer a MAXIMA a four door sports car.......*sniff sniff* except on flat ground... Sorry but i'm disappointed ..

  • @jeremyashley1
    @jeremyashley1  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Maxima is not the FOUR DOOR SPORTS CAR anymore is what I am saying.... And as far as nissan standing behind their product ---- they don't. These two factors upset set me. Otherwise its a good car, just not a GREAT CAR, and definetly not a 4-door sports car, not with that Tranny Whining under high torque....

      A PRE-Renault Maxima (say a 1997 for example) is still far more reliable than these post-Renault Nissans. If you're buying today's Nissan hoping for the stellar reliability of the older ones, you'll be very disappointed. Carlos Ghson and his Renault management directions are pulling Nissans reliability way down. Avoid them.

      Recent acura's are having problems out of their transmissions too. Get u a used Lexus ls430 (2004-2006) look the best in that generation. You will not go wrong with that car. It's EXTREMELY reliable, quick, plush, smooth, AWESOME mark Levinson stereo. Its the best car ever built and the best value on the used car market.
