This is my favorite version of this song. I grew up in the 70's and this song was played frequently in my home. I loved watching my mama dance to this song. The 70's were my favorite decade. Life was good.
When I lived in Chile for a few months a couple years ago in a place no one spoke english, someone I met asked me if i knew this song. Good music transcends language and time.
That just brought a tear to my eyes. My dad was the one that introduced me to rock I was 13 back in 1996 and the first song he played for me was led zeppelin black dog. I'll never forget that moment ever. Your dad sounds cool!
The 19 yr old workin' the counter at my local Car-X said his cover band was looking for new material. I told him about this song. He whipped his phone out, and listened to it, and his eyes lit up like he just discovered the Holy Grail of music. THAT is how good this song is.

Except for those who like music from this century-aka-this/generation. Plus try to know this fact, each decade has both good or terrible sounds. Go to the first year music was made, there was many who cringed, and many who got with it and did dance!
Saturday night I was downtown Working for the FBI Sitting in a nest of bad men Whiskey bottles piling high Bootlegging boozer on the west side Full of people who are doing wrong Just about to call up the D.A. man When I heard this woman singing a song A pair of forty fives made me open my eyes My temperature started to rise She was a long cool woman in a black dress Just a 5'9" beautiful 'n' tall Just one look I was a bad mess 'Cause that long cool woman had it all I saw her heading to the table Well, a tall walking big black cat Charlie said, I hope that you're able, boy 'Cause I'm telling you she knows where it's at Well, suddenly we hear the sirens And everybody started to run Jumping under doors and tables Well, I heard somebody shooting a gun Well, the D.A. was pumping my left hand She was holding my right Well, I told her, don't get scared 'Cause you're gonna be spared I've gotta be forgiven if I wanna spend my living With a long cool woman in a black dress Just a 5'9" beautiful 'n' tall Well with just one look I was a bad mess 'Cause that long cool woman had it all Had it all, had it all, had it all Had it all, had it all, had it all (she had it all)
Funny, I was only 6 when it came out yet in 71 and still to this day vividly remember my older brother calling me to the Sony AM radio on WLS AM to come to check this song out.
I remember listening to this song while riding to the shore in my mom's 63' Mercury Comet..... Metallic green with an all white leather interior.....Am radio.....1 speaker in the middle of the front dash...vibrating like hell because of it's inferior quality! Ahh yes....the good ole' days!
I don't know what it was with the metallic green in 63, Ford used that color well into the 2000's, on a side note, Blech. With leather interior it was probably the "caliente" model.
I was all of four years old. I do recall hearing WINGS Uncle Albert waiting in some office with my parents, though, around '73 or so. I didn't know this song until well into the late 70s or so. I do recall buying The Bee Gees Jive Talkin' the single however.
Neighbors called the cops on me for playing this too loud. They got arrested...

Breana Strickland my daughter is 14 now but when she was to knew everyword to miss American pie
That just brought a tear to my eyes. My dad was the one that introduced me to rock I was 13 back in 1996 and the first song he played for me was led zeppelin black dog. I'll never forget that moment ever. Your dad sounds cool!
@@oilypatch323 thanks guy i try to be
Breana Strickland... parenting done right !
@@randysmith8701 thank you sir i tried my best
The 19 yr old workin' the counter at my local Car-X said his cover band was looking for new material. I told him about this song. He whipped his phone out, and listened to it, and his eyes lit up like he just discovered the Holy Grail of music. THAT is how good this song is.
Great story!!
Good to hear some of new generation appreciates this too
Juke Box on Lake Southerland, special.
You saved someone's band with that.
@@andrethered1 yep, couple of years later, my own. th-cam.com/video/8wZbvwjZ0sg/w-d-xo.html
I really dig this
I can remember going hunting and dad was playing the AM radio ,he was blasting that 6x9 in the dashboard. I miss you dad and I miss hunting with you.
I felt that
We weren't going hunting, but as well first time hearing this in a 66 Chrysler Newport!!!! My father was driving still in the early 90's with the 6x9 blaring in the center dash!! Crackles and ALL!!!
I'm 36, and will still be rockin' this when my age doubles...if I'm still kickin'.
you still be kickin with the Hollies
Just had 14 minutes of Telegraph Road, Dire Strates then 9 minutes CCR Born on the bayou, now 6 odd minutes of this. Man, can life get any better?
Hi
Must be played at high volume 😎
Absolutely !!!!!!!
Always
Got this playing so loud the coils in my speakers are glowing and screaming!
I cranked up the volume now, sorry neighbor downstairs lol. I need to put my sub woofer a little higher hahaha!

That guitar hook is one of the most iconic in music. Instantly recognizable
Indeed! So much so, it's been used in...maybe 7 movie trailers, and at least 6 commercial ads.
It took me years to learn how to play that intro it is so haunting love it I'm 52 now back at it was hard to learn how to play guitar now guitar lessons are everywhere wish I would have been born today haha not really life sucks today for the younger generation I feel sorry for them
Fun fact: that riff was played by lead singer Allan Clark, not lead guitarist Tony Hicks.
When you feel like the speakers are not loud enough .
Volume on max ,
And still tried turning it up three times in a row !!!!
Y un par de tragos se le sube más el volumen
Dude. Yes... I'm like man I spent a lot of money on this truck. Hell with the engine! Why can I not make people 3 states away hear what I'm hearing?!?? That's what I thought I was paying for! Lol
Was it set to 11?
You
Are
Hurting
Me!
Bring back so many memories!
Better than anything today by far.
yep sure is this crap they call music today sucks
Except for those who like music from this century-aka-this/generation. Plus try to know this fact, each decade has both good or terrible sounds. Go to the first year music was made, there was many who cringed, and many who got with it and did dance!
OH MY FRICKIN GOD I FREAKIN LOVE THIS FREAKIN SONG LIKE FRICK YA
Agreed
Without question...............
This is the ultimate driving song!
Saturday night I was downtown
Working for the FBI
Sitting in a nest of bad men
Whiskey bottles piling high
Bootlegging boozer on the west side
Full of people who are doing wrong
Just about to call up the D.A. man
When I heard this woman singing a song
A pair of forty fives made me open my eyes
My temperature started to rise
She was a long cool woman in a black dress
Just a 5'9" beautiful 'n' tall
Just one look I was a bad mess
'Cause that long cool woman had it all
I saw her heading to the table
Well, a tall walking big black cat
Charlie said, I hope that you're able, boy
'Cause I'm telling you she knows where it's at
Well, suddenly we hear the sirens
And everybody started to run
Jumping under doors and tables
Well, I heard somebody shooting a gun
Well, the D.A. was pumping my left hand
She was holding my right
Well, I told her, don't get scared
'Cause you're gonna be spared
I've gotta be forgiven if I wanna spend my living
With a long cool woman in a black dress
Just a 5'9" beautiful 'n' tall
Well with just one look I was a bad mess
'Cause that long cool woman had it all
Had it all, had it all, had it all
Had it all, had it all, had it all (she had it all)
50 Years Ago. this Jam never get Old.
Still have the 45. Bought in '72, when I was in the 8th grade. Classic song.
Funny, I was only 6 when it came out yet in 71 and still to this day vividly remember my older brother calling me to the Sony AM radio on WLS AM to come to check this song out.
I still have every album I ever bought
I remember this in the 7th grade. Awesome song!
Don't hate just because you weren't born yet.
@@BF6ct you still in the 8th grade smart ass
I remember listening to this song while riding to the shore in my mom's 63' Mercury Comet..... Metallic green with an all white leather interior.....Am radio.....1 speaker in the middle of the front dash...vibrating like hell because of it's inferior quality! Ahh yes....the good ole' days!
Cool
Jeffrey Hancock hfhgbvnbb
I don't know what it was with the metallic green in 63, Ford used that color well into the 2000's, on a side note, Blech. With leather interior it was probably the "caliente" model.
This was my hitch hiking song, seemed every ride I got was playing this song.
VIBRATING? UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HECK YA I FRICKIN FRICKIN LOVE DAT STUF
26 years old and this is one of my favorite songs of all time and yes when I listen so do the neighbors and the cars beside me .
It doesn't get much better than the Hollies

I was all of four years old. I do recall hearing WINGS Uncle Albert waiting in some office with my parents, though, around '73 or so. I didn't know this song until
well into the late 70s or so. I do recall buying The Bee Gees Jive Talkin' the single however.
🤣🤣🤣😋
