  • Episode 104 - Pilot Survival Training
Every pilot worst nightmare is to be shot down behind enemy lines or over hostile territory. The Canadian Air Force, like other NATO nations, has developed a unique and intense training course to prepare pilots for the worst. The air force SERE (Survive, Evasion, Resistance and Escape) training is highlighted in this show taped in Springer Lake Manitoba. From learning how to survive off the land to evading tracking dogs and soldiers, we follow a group of young pilots are they learn all about survival behind the lines. Very, very intense!

GPS??? really..... what happened to a map, compass and protractor??? I leaded best way to avoid anyone tracking you is get wet go for a swim or walk up or down stream for a bit I would have ran a head a few 100 meters then back and swam across the river and waited in the tall grass until the dog walked by across the lake and counted to 30 then swim up stream slowly and move to shore and head the other way.

What happened to getting the crap beat out of you and torture ( hard cell and soft cell interrogation) after you were captured attempting to evade and placed in a pow compound? The water & food deprivation , in other words the components that make the experience REAL and motivate you to NOT TO GET CAUGHT or if you escape motivate you NOT TO GET RECAPTURED. Your willingness to go to any length not to see the real thing. However, if you are in that situation understand what IS going to happen. And I hope the services have developed FEMALE specific training knowing "WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN" if captured.

Talk about clickbait! Where's the "survival" in this training? Escape and evasion in some part .. but in a very low quality way for sure. Either teach the real stuff or not at all.

Survival (S) is taught at a different time and it basically focuses on survival in Canada's wilderness. There is no urgent need to know about ERE when you only fly in Canada (mostly domestic SAR operations). (S) is a pre-requisite to the course filmed in this video. After (S), aircrew get back to this location later in their career to complete the "ERE" part of SERE. It is required for aircrew who are to deploy out of Canada, where potential ennemies could look for you.
