    My hamster was living in a super tiny walmart cage and with all the Christmas money I got I bought a huge 18$ bin at Walmart today!! Got 2 bags of Aspen bedding too! She is so much happier and she doesn't seem stressed! Just casually running on the wheel and eating her chews! I feel so much better too and no longer feel bad anymore!

      Make sure you do your research you need a big cage a wheel lots of betting like 7 inches deep research your hamsters diet. YOU THiNG A HAMSTER IS CHEEP YOUR WRONG A HAmSTER IS EXPENSIVE A HAMSTER WIlL COST AROWND $400 not including food and bedding it’s hole life! So just a warning. You commented 2 years ago so I hope you did all this! I hope you did research. I’m planning in getting a hamster and I need $250 for everything not including my bedding and food.

    I just recently got my first hamster, (Syrian) and I didn't do much research and ended up wasting over $30 on a tiny tales cage. I then realized the cage was wayyy too small and so was the wheel. Now she is in a big bin cage with an 8 in wheel. Please, before you buy a hamster, do research.

    I advice making your hamsters sand bath bigger because they really need a sand bath so they can play, dig, flip and clean themselves up using it. If you give your hamster a small sand bath you're taking away the ability of them to do the things that they need to do in a sand bath. Instead I suggest removing a bit of the bedding in the side and use it as a sand bath, using the bendy bridge to seperate the bedding and the sand bath from each other and then putting a hideout in the sand bath. I also suggest not using the flying thing wheel because hamsters have alot of energy and run very fast so if they stop running they can fly off the wheel and injur themselves. Also, I'm not hating and I'm just giving advices 😊♡

      You need a lid for the cage. You need to take the bins lid, and cut a whole in it and then cover it with hardware mesh. Pretty well any hamster will escape a bin cage without a lid

Even if he accidentally goes in the bowl (like my hamster did) the first time that's how they learn to not do it again. @Idk-iu4lw 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Emma Lynne Sampson like what is scatter feed like do they scatter food all around the cage ?

    • @thedon1262
      @thedon1262 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Idk-iu4lw yes, you sprinkle all the seeds around the place or hide it somewere so your hamster have to find it and searge for it, hamsters have good noses and they can find pretty easely becouse of that. im stil figuring out how to do this without making the cage an complete mess, but on the otherhand, if he doenst use it as food you just are using it as bottemsubstrate. you can also put whole pieces of the plant in the bin and set it up like they are growing out of the ground. im growing my own seeds right now so i can put it in the hamstercage later. that way they have to find the plant and get it out of there which is closer to their nature than just putting it in a bowl. you can always conclude that an hamster whos living closer to his nature is happier in life. but you always have to take responsebility to reduce stress and dangers ofc, becouse they will always been exposed to it in that "little" area. so you have to be always sure first what you give your hamster! ;)

    • @kaseyknight2104
      @kaseyknight2104 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Idk hamsters are foraging animals. In order to reduce the risk of stereotypical behaviours, some owners believe that scatter feeding allows the hamster to display natural foraging behaviours 😌

    I’m not sure if anyone will see my comment, but I plan on getting ONE Robo Hamster this weekend and I am going to make a bin cage (with at least 450 sq in bc that’s the requirement). My question is this:
    Is it okay to use a whole bag of bedding (the same size as shown in the video) for my one Robo Hamster? Will that much bedding hurt the hamster and suffocate it? Will it be very happy that there’s extra bedding to burrow in?

    • @beautysfx4644
      @beautysfx4644 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say you should have a part of the bin cage with more bedding for your hamster to burrow and then have the rest of it an even size so say half of it with alot of bedding, I think try it with not the whole bag at first and if it looks like your hamster needs more bedding then put more bedding in

    I don't know why but I feel like ghe minimum just isn't enough for hamsters yah know?? As small as they are I feel like they should get a ton of room but at the same time I don't even have enough room for myself, I could make it work with a 55 gal in my room or maybe an Ikea detolf but my parents (can't wait to move out) would think I'm insane
    Edit: I'm also conflicted. I have never owned a small animal but I would like a dwarf but at the same time I'm worried I might not provide enough space for a Syrian

      Heyyy you can you use chinchilla sand just make sure its not dust becaus that's really bad. And you can also use children's playsand, you can just find that in your local store just make sure to first bake it in the oven on 350f/175c for 20 minutes to get out the bacteria. You can watch Victoria Rachel's channel she makes a lot of videos about Hamsters and she also has a video about sandbaths if you have more questions!! And sorry for my bad English becaus English is not my first language ❤️ i hope i helped you out!

    Just some thoughts and advise, not trying to offend at all btw. So basically the second wheel (flying, [something something idk how to spell it])you put can be dangerous because your hamster could run really fast and fall an hurt themselves. Also I would say that the amount of bedding is not really good, if you expect your hamster to burrow, you should have enough bedding, usually minimum would be 6 inches AT LEAST, but I think you did add enough anyways so ur good. That's all , good vid 😁

    8. 5 is fine for Syrians
    8 is the minimum and my black bear Syrian Izzy actually fits perfectly in her 8.5 wheel but that might just my ham

    • @kaylaw3759
      @kaylaw3759 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Izzy the hamster as long as their back doesn’t have any curve (it should be straight when they are running) it is fine, however most syrians would need at least a 10 inch wheel, especially with females because they tend to be larger in size

    I'm going to get a hamster but the only bin I have available to me right now is 373 inches of floorspace. I'm trying my best to make a huge cadge and don't have proper materials to make a diy cadge. Do u have any recommendations? I currently have 2 bins. Wasn't the min 360 not too long ago though?

    • @EmmaLynneSampson
      @EmmaLynneSampson  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the minimum used to be 360, but that was found to still stress hamsters out and the minimum was then moved to 450, but it’s now being argued that the minimum size should be 600 square inches as 450 has found to be too small as well. My only suggestion would be to find a larger bin... Walmart has many sizes available

  • @Wolfs9326AJ

    I just made my hamster a bin cage! I only have wire mesh on the lid. The bin is a 110qt bin cage, and one side has about 6-7 inches of bedding. But the only ventilation is in the lid. Is that fine or should I add wall ventilation as well? I’m worried my hamster could be at Risk for suffocating. Please let me know!!!!

    My hamster doesn’t know how to use a flying saucer, I believe it’s because at pet smart they didn’t have one and he doesn’t know any better. Yes, I got him at pet smart. Hate on me if you want. When I saw him I knew I had to get him, he was the one. I’m not sure how to teach him. Could you please notice this and make a video? I know it sounds dumb to teach a hamster but there has to be a way.
