I’ve been using these accessories for some years now, I love that hack of yours.
The really clever aspect of the retainers that attach to the camera (or long lens) is the Wear Indication. At the point where the cord retainer folds over itself, at the camera anchor points, there will be abrasion taking place as the camera weight rubs the retainer cords against one another. When the cord begins to wear the sublayer of the cord will be revealed - and it is yellow, so it shows up and warns that cord and retainer unit needs to be swapped out.
If that is ignored and wear continues the next sublayer of the cord is red and becomes visible. Time to REALLY get that retainer swapped out.
I should add that, after three years of daily usage, I have not experienced any wear whatsoever.
A superb pair of products and worth every penny/cent/centime…..

Just went out and got the clip and strap and I love it. It works even better because the slider that goes on the bottom of your camera can be put into the clip in 4 different directions. It's fantastic.

The Peak Design Capture Clip 3 works much better than the older versions, it is now much easier to get back on, but must be lined up. I have used it on multi-day backpacking trips, even gone running with it on my pack. No problems at all. It works very well. And yeah I never lock it and have never had a problem. Attaching a strap to a capture clip is a great idea!

  • @davewelfare2907
    @davewelfare2907 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

That’s a great idea and will try it as I have all the components. An alternative that I have been using and works really well is to merely move the handgrip side anchor down to the arca plate. This not only keeps it away from your right hand but I like the way it hangs at my side better as well (mind you, I tend to have a heavier lens attached, which may make a difference). Enjoy your videos.

Great overview of the Peak Design straps and clip I have been using that hack for years as the original capture clip has cut outs for the attachments to pass through that way they don’t get pinched by the clip when it is tightened it’s a shame they didn’t add those slots to the newer version.

I like the PD anchor system a lot, I actually use an original Canon strap with the PD anchor housing, works great. I may upgrade to their strap, but the anchor+housing is the main part of the magic for me. I was thinking about the Capture too, although for me it's a new baseplate system completely, but it looks really cool - and after seeing your hack it's even more compelling.
BTW: I've got one anchor on the strap too, so in case I undo my camera from it I can connect it ("loop it") so it doesn't slide off accidentally. That's my little hack.

Nice video thanks for highlighting the features of the Peak Design system. BTW I thought the straps were called "Slide" because they slide over your clothing (particularly in the cross shoulder configuration) not because the adjusters slide up and down. I think the idea is that you reverse the strap to the rubberized grip when you don't want the slide :)

Nice review! I've tried all those and agree with every bit of it.
I've had the Peak Design links for a while and it's indeed great for deciding on the go whether you want it strapped or not. I used to have a slide strap too, but I'm a disaster and when I crouch, bend down etc, the camera would slide and hit something. I only use the Capture clip now and it's the best and safest thing I've ever had for my camera. Locking and releasing the camera to it is so fast! I love it. I don't like carrying a backpack though, so I always attach it to my belt.
I still have the links attached to the camera though and dude... the idea of using them on the Capture.. it blew my mind! haha

Brilliant hack, thanks! 5:48 You can still have the right orientation of the camera (lens down) even if the clip is directly attached to your belt since the arca plate is square, it can go in sideways. The Pro Pad might make it more comfortable though, but I've found myself not using it as much recently and just attaching direct.

30 secs in, I'm in TOTAL agreement with you, Dunna! I have the Lite, however I have been kicking around getting the Capture Clip for my A6400/Sigma 16mm combo. EPIC Hack too! Dunna Nailed It! 😁👊🏾

Well, I didn't learn much in this video because I have all those Peak accessories. But they are amazing and I endorse them heavily. I don't have issues with the red tabs because I don't shoot video. But if I do, that's a very trick workaround. Thanks!

Dude. Pro move. I might have to do that when I shoot weddings, it sounds perfect! I was planning to buy the slide strap anyway.

I started watching this and I was like “ok how good is this hack”. Now my reaction is 🤯 I have the wrist strap and love it but thinking of getting the slide lite for my new a7c. I have a black rapid sport strap currently but its really bulky for the a7c.

That hack is genius. I have a slide strap and never use it specifically because it always feels like it’s in the way.
I instead opted for the peak design wrist strap when I’m using my camera a lot and a tomtoc sling to store it in when not in use.
I’ll have to try that hack though.

Good smart almost to simple of a hack iv had both items for about a year now and I have always wanted the system but on the strap and just never figured to do it like that lol so simple it's genius!

Holy cow this is genius. My biggest bug bear is the strap sliding about the place when I remove it from the camera. This solves it! It will make the times I need s strap bearable! Thanks Dunna!

Great video! I have both Slides. I prefer the slide light, even with my a9ii with the 100-400mm GM attached. It’s still very comfortable, and I don’t feel like I have a freakin seat belt on. During a shoot I can actually strap two around my body(one opposite the other) giving me easy access to my two camera setup.
That last hack was genius, I’m definitely going to do that with the capture clips. On my a7siii Sony has made it so the dongle things are stiff.

Great video, that's a super useful hack! I attach the little circle things to all my purses so I can wear them with the PD straps, it's so convenient!
I always install the capture clip upside down, so that pressing the button causes the camera to just fall out really easily. To keep it from accidentally falling, I have a leash on my camera, and carbiner it to the strap on my bag; That gives it plenty of reach so I can bring the viewfinder up to my eye, but also means the camera won't fall to the ground if I let go by accident.

Pretty cool way to use the PD clip, I bought one but never like to clip to the chest. I refer leather shoulder belt like Vi Vante, Harry Benz or Lucky Strap because camera doesn’t slide easily, a bit more secure and comfortable walking around. Thanks for the review, I do use PD to attach camera to belt so I will try the clip like you showed, probably add a safety tether strap just to be safe.
