The 2012 performance is from the VGAs, which Keighley helped produce and was scored by Lorne Balfe, who conducts The Game Awards Orchestra, so it fits! 2020's orchestra was performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra in Abbey Road Studios due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

he also plays in hans zimmers band! saw them live it was amazing
Unless I missed something, his first appearance is at the 5:52 mark, playing "Rivers in the Desert" from "Persona 5". Yeah, he was already there in 2017.
However, the performance that made him a legend among gamers didn't come until the Medley of 2022, playing "The Weight of Life" from "Xenoblade Chronicles 3", seen at the 22:28 mark. And the rest is history.
The transition from RE4 Remake to TOTK at 27:08 will always be my favorite
I love how RE4 ends with Leon and Ashley facing Salazar Castle and then the transition to Hyrule Castle is so sweet!
When totk music arrives is just the highest point of all orchestra ever.
Even the lighting changes. So epic!
Final Fantasy VII Remake into Doom Eternal is also great at 15:44

@@kaiderhai86 I actually found 2020 to be really unbalanced between the games, DOOM got like 10 seconds and other games got 30. Then that backbeat was so prominent in FF7 and DOOM it made them sound like they were from the same game.
Pedro Eustache really came out here with a big flute to show off. That made my night this year! I'm still amazed by his Xenoblade performance but honestly his Persona 5 was so good

The orchestra is my favorite part about the game awards, because, to me, even if people have their own opinions on who should win what or similar, the music and the work the orchestra puts into this really does help convey the message that the Game Awards should be a time to celebrate gaming as a whole, and from the years I've been watching, 2018-2023, they've hit a bullseye every time!
On a recent note, MAN, this year's orchestra was amazing!
When the tears of the kingdom theme kicked in, I was so happy
I love a lot of these, and I'm not really into Zelda, but that Tears of the Kingdom piece might be the most gloriously-executed segment in the Orchestra's history, it's incredible.

As a classically trained musician gotta say that arrangements and the overall quality of the orchestra and sound are amazing.

Well it is Hans Zimmer/Lorne Balfe composing, and there are some top level musicians in the VGA orchestra since they use many of the musicians they use for their work.
Mario Odyssey's "Jump up, Superstar" going on for 2 minutes is amazing and I dont think anyone can complain ❤

2020 is still my favorite, with 17:27 being the most legendary transition ever. You got a whole set of games with a heavy bass line and then it goes to Animal Crossing… it’s just amazing.
I audibly gasped and then had tears in my eyes, remembering how 2020 was such a goddamn hard and lonely year with Animal Crossing filling that loneliness a little. (I legit forgot it was nominated at all lol)
That Celeste to AC Odessey transition is still the best they have ever done! I love how the shot cuts to Lorne's face (the conductor) right as the transition happens. You can see him get hyped and waiting for the moment and is just like "hell yeah!" when the orchestra nails the notes.

I damn love the transitions in these Orchestras, my favourites are: RDR2 to MSM 11:15 - Stray to Elden Ring 23:47 to GoWR 24:17 and arguably the best one, RE4 to ToTK 27:07 to MSM2 27:35 ,it just sounds so magical

Always my favorite part of the game awards. Gaming has some incredible music and seeing them performed on stage like this always gives me chills. There are few things in media that move me like this
Music in any media is generally just very consistently good. The rest of whatever it's in could be mediocre or even bad, but the music is good. Of course, there are exceptions, but music is generally the most consistently good part of anything, game, movie, etc.
Pedro Eustache the flute guy is somehow getting more and more iconic. That last, ginormous instrument does anyone know what that is? Looks fucking sick
Contrabass flute. It’s an octave below the bass flute and can only be played standing up due to its size.
20:22 The transition from Resident Evil 8 to Metroid Dread is awesome! Hearing such a big orchestra make one of the most iconic themes in gaming such as Super Metroid Title theme really gives me shivers

The orchestra is my favorite part of the year! It makes me feel so much emotion for franchises I’ve never touched. You can feel the love and passion that goes into the music with each switch
I felt super emotional hearing Monster Hunter in the orchestra compilation, as I had not yet found into the franchise when it was nominated. But now that I have thanks to Rise, I was like "hell yeah, there it is!!"

One of the things I always look forward to during the game awards. So many games have such incredible scores, and they don't get enough appreciation.
They killed it this year, I prefer 2023 over 2022 tbh
2023 is great but i slightly prefer last year (2022), because it had more memorable parts (especially with xenoblade and stray).

It's absolutely impressive how the quality ranks up from an already great 2021, to reach the 2022 and 2023 performances, where the compositions, transitions and play are close to perfect, deserving the qualification of top artistic performance. I'm so glad for all the nominees of both these years, to be immortalized in such a way is the award in itself, and it's a particularly strong symbol for the underdogs like Stray, who get to be carved into history alongside giants. I love what it builds, and Flute Guy - Perdro - surely agrees 😄

stray was amazing, the buildup before the transition to it made it hit like a truck and i loved the upbeat score

Honestly even hearing all of them like this one after another, 2022 ochestra is still the best. The way the songs perfectly blend together seamlessly is still surreal. And ofcourse the performance of the flute guy aka Pedro Eustache and that camera lag when elden ring theme comes up is unbeatable.

Each and every year we get an epic GOTY orchestra. I'd say my favorite parts were the trasition from Ratchet to It Takes Two, Death Stranding to Smash Ultimate, and RE4 to Tears of the Kingdom.
