  • The latest instalment of the Robbie Fowler Podcast features one of the greatest midfielders of his generation, the long-time beating heart of Liverpool Football Club and the man set to end Celtic’s dreams of 10-in-a-row: Steven Gerrard.
    In a wide-ranging chat, the current Rangers manager speaks with real candour about his coaching and management style, reveals EXACTLY what happened at half-time in Istanbul and picks his favourite striker to play alongside. But is it Luis Suarez or Fernando Torres? Gerrard also reflects on the infamous slip, a moment he calls ‘the worst day of his life’.
    The Robbie Fowler Podcast | In conversation with Steven Gerrard | Episode 6 | In partnership with McDonald's UAE.

    For Rafa's perspective on Istanbul, watch the "30 years in the making" documentary. I think it was there he said, that he had to scrap the half-time speech he prepared, when Crespo scored his second goal, making it 3-0. The rest is history :D
    Thank you for this upload, Robbie! I'll be onto the King Kenny interview next. Cheers from Copenhagen, Denmark :)

    As a Celtic fan I can respect this man, as a teenager and a young centre mid he was my icon in the way he played and led his teams, he was an all round player and an incredible player. I was gutted when he took the Rangers job, not for bitterness against our rivals just because of his mentality and football brain and the instant impact he would have on the players at rangers just due to his reputation. I thought he would have a positive effect on Rangers but I never in my wildest dreams expected such a turnaround in such a short period of time (doesn’t help with my own club being run by Poundland employees) but with an ambitious manager and cohesive board beholding him he’s done so much and I can only sit back and respect that and appreciate what he’s done for Scottish football in Europe in terms of the co efficiency

      I'm a Liverpudlian and obviously I would have liked him at Celtic but hats off to him for taking Rangers (who were in a very dark place) to at least silverware, but most importantly against the yardstick that is Europe, it won't be easy to qualify for the CL but if anyone can rally the troops it's Gerrard.

      It's always great when a legend of your own club is also loved by another club. I think of Rafa Bentiez at Newcastle, how much they loved him there. Sticking with Newcastle, they obviously loved Keegan and Dalglish. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich loving Xabi Alonso. Even though Suarez leaves a bitter taste, it's great how much he was loved at Barca. And so on. So it's great to see that the Rangers fans love Stevie, and it also seems most of them accept that he will eventually make a return to Liverpool at some point. Here's to hoping that Rangers dominate the SPL for the next few years, and maybe even win the Europa League at some point. Rangers and Gerrard are a perfect fit right now.

      Has he really earned legendary status yet? I know he's turned Rangers around in time to end Celtics 10 in a row attempt but he's only been there 3 years and only on course to win 1 trophy, surely he needs a bit more time and few more trophies under his belt before he's considered one of Rangers all time greats doesn't he? Or has he really earned it already?

      @@darthpepe2994 nah mate. Its a work in progress. Hes exceptional in how he conducts himself and if he stays we are going to go on to great things. You've got to remember the Scottish Premier league was a one horse race whilst we were in the third division and climbing. We sometimes had the biggest attendance in the UK and a few times Europe from the Scottish third and second division. Everyone's going to reap the whirlwind when Rangers get whatever they want under this gaffer and the unity shown by all.

    • @robinmcewen3286
      @robinmcewen3286 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@darthpepe2994 In short, yes. Stopping 10 gives him legendary status. It's that simple, really. Who knows if Derek McIness could have done it. But the fact is, SG looks like he's gonna achieve that feat. What I love about his demeanour is that he doesn't claim Rangers or Scottish football is 'top level'. But he does emphasise the fact that Rangers as a club is as big as any in Britain - as an entity. Pressure isn't exclusive to one league or one level. Rangers are one of about 10 clubs worldwide that must win every match. So it's a unique pressure and dealing with it and succeeding under it is what Gerrard is doing well. If you believe he wasn't under pressure to deliver results you're mad. What he was given over say, Lampard, was a bit of time. That's the only luxury he gets from managing in Scotland. Celtic were miles ahead when he arrived. He has caught them up miles quicker than most thought. So he's been a success. He won't be at Rangers for more than another couple of years. And you can't blame him. But he shouldn't and won't jump at the first opportunity in England. But if LFC come calling, he has to go. And he'll go with the blessings of every Gers fan.

      Not really. We have more in common with Celtic. That's why we've had a great relationship with them for decades, something which was solidified after Hillsborough. Rangers sort of represent everything that Liverpool are against. That's why so many Liverpool fans have a hard time backing Gerrard at Rangers. We want him to succeed, just not with them. On a philosophical and ideological level, Rangers are more similar to Chelsea.

      @Stephen Greenhorn both Celtic and Liverpool share moral values and are very anti-establishment. There are many connections between the clubs through managers and players. But Hillsborough is arguably the most important. Celtic stepped up to help the healing process and ever since, there's been a bond. That's why most Liverpool fans prefer Celtic over Rangers. It's not a hatred for Rangers, it's just a tremendous amount of respect for Celtic.
      As for the Celtic Fans mocking the Ibrox disaster, there's always a few bad eggs. I've heard Rangers fans mock Hillsborough. Do they represent your club? Probably not.

I'm sick of playing with Igor Biscan etc Liverpool would of not won the champions league in 05 or the FA cup in 06, this then that would impact our situation today. We wouldn't have attracted Klopp etc. Gerrard carried average sides on his own keeping us a respectable club in europe. I don't know what our profile would be now without his loyalty.

    As an LFC fan for 42 yrs I’m thrilled that he has moved onto to management and is achieving success, and to also do it away from the obvious spotlights of maybe the English premier league. I felt so gutted for him at the end of his Lpool career, and also how he missed out on playing for Klopp..but now he has the world at his feet in his new career. Undoubtedly he will one day be manager at Anfield, but you know he won’t jump into that too early, I don’t see him replacing Klopp...I think he will wait until he knows 1000% he is ready, because to fail there would kill him

      Agree mate. Xabi was a big loss for us, and we didn't even get Gareth Barry (supposed to replace him, which IMO wasn't half as a good as Xabi, don't know what Rafa was thinking right then). In the end we end up with fucking Charlie Adam. Ugh, I don't even want to remember those days, horrid

    • @mnb9162
      @mnb9162 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@haiqalzaki5113 It was a Rolls royce core in 08/09. Gerrard found his best position where he could fly around anywhere he wanted from a central free number 10 role. Alonso threading firm, hard passes. With a little bit of ambition to recruit a world class winger that team would have been right there. I still think thats the best core/team of Liverpool since start of Prem that I have seen. To be fair in 08 & 09 Arsenal also messed up their team through sales. Lost a great team overnight selling Prime Hleb, Adebayor, Flamini, Toure, Rosicky injury. Man utd & Chelsea were able to keep hold of most of their key players so they just got over the line to win the Titles.
