It was actually an extremely heated argument between Bob Paisley and Ian Rush that turned Rushie into a ruthless goal-machine. Bob being a wily old fox knew how to push players buttons but in order to get the best out of Rushie who was at the time a softly spoken kid, he had to make him angry. Bob told him, you're not selfish enough, I signed you to score goals and you're not doing it. Rushie slammed the office door and said I'll show you, you bastard, scored loads in the reserves, got in the first team and then tormented defenders. Getting furious with Bob Paisley who was a genius was the making of him.

Rushie spot on about Collymore. I was only a teenager when Stan signed but I thought exactly the same. Reminded me of the power and pace of Ronaldo at PSV, just running OVER people and scoring with ease. First season, especially The Newcastle game, it was true. Robbie was Rushes equal at finishing but far far behind at the press and tackling back. I believe his quote was ‘it wasn’t my job’ meaning he was basically half the player. Rush was first line of defense. Robbie more associated with the first line of something else 😹 Robbie wanted to be a drinking era footballer in an era where Ferguson made Man U give up the alcohol. Gary Neville admits LfC were probably a better side but because MuFC drank less they won more. Spice Boys should have followed Souness advice.

VAR would have caught rushes nose offside in the modern era, more times than not

I've watched the Gerrard, Souness, Dalgliesh & now Rush podcast and i cant help but think what they would all be worth in todays market in their prime including Robbie himself.
I think in todays inflated transfer market you would struggle to get 5 players for under half a billion pounds.

they'd all be at least 100mill, Gerrard and Kenny closer to 200 mill

@@jacksmith4460 I cant disagree with those valutions in the modern era when a £50m player can be average but all of they players performed at the highest level for club and country.........would Gerrard and Souness get into an all time liverpool midfield do you think ?

Rushie had a special room in The Conti in Liverpool where he would go to lower his scrotal wedge pressure

Something to be remembered with goal records is whether or not they took penalties so Rush and Andy Cole as well are actually very underrated

Being a united fan in the 80s wasn't easy seeing Liverpool dominate, but you've got to say Ian rush was just lethal. Got to respect him even thought on the pitch we hated him. 😆

I've been a Liverpool fan all my life, i was about 5 years old when my dad took me to the game, i had a ball and a black marker pen and my dad said go get him to sign your ball ,so 5 years of age i ran after Ian rush and shouted ''rushy rushy '' Ian rush turned round and looked down at me and i said '' where's john barns?'' rush took my ball of me and signed my ball, I've been told that story by my dad and i remember the flags on the pub ceiling ,i wonder if Ian rush remembers that

I believe we tried to sign Laudrup in 84 but he signed for Juve instead. Same as Rushie, but too late he realised he was being farmed out to Lazio. Laudrup was wasted at Juve. However, I wouldn't have traded those years with Jan and Ronnie and Macca.
