2017 Africa Twin Manual - Oil and Oil Filter change.

Time to change the oil and filter on my AT. Looked ready for it too. Oil, filter and crush washers came from OPIE Oils. I use them frequently, order one morning, typically get it the next day.

Its been good, but had to get the mechanism replaced at the start of the year, it started running stupid fast. Seiko did it, cost about £100.

4.1 litre?How come that on mine didn't need that much, I took to a mechanic and he said there was some left on the 4 litre bottle, when you check the oil level, do you see the first line or the second one? He reckons that should be never to full and 3 and a half litre max. I'm not challenging you of course but I would like to understand more. Also, when you drain why do you drain from both, are they in a different side? Thanks in advance.

I think the sump has two parts, and you only drain it properly by undoing both drain plugs. As you can see from mine, there was a lot of oil in the second part, and it absolutely took the 4 litres. Its an easy job...next time do it yourself. At least then you know you've done it right!

​​​@@robvis7853.7 litres if you don't drain it properly, 4,1 if you drain both sumps. (Thats on the manual, the DCT takes about 200 ml more)
Change your mechanic.
This is also why you need to run it before checking the level. Theres a "dry" sump and a " wet" sump section, you need to idle it for a few minutes to allow oil to circulate and for the scavenge pump to drain the "dry" section to the correct level

@mattyb7736 funny I had to investigate my self, the first service he didn't do properly and then I asked him to borrow the tools and do it my self. I knew something was wrong, I had another 2 service after the first comment and another one soon to come 🤣
