@@erwaldox At the moment, there isn't any mod like that for GTA IV. It's necessary to do what Fastman92 Limit Adjuster/Open Limit Adjuster does in GTA SA (maybe). But the Fusion Fix team has been working hard on GTA IV, and we'll probably have a fix soon!
@@robertesaum3 even with Limit Adjusters the grass in GTA SA still has pretty poor draw distance, it's an engine limitation which cant't be fixed and i'm afraid it's the same thing with the GTA IV issue
@@ult1matum If I’m not mistaken, I remember reading a comment from junior_djjr (from MixMods) talking about the draw distance of the game's vegetation (trees, grass, etc.), suggesting that it might be possible to reduce the pop-ins of trees/grass. But I don’t quite remember if he mentioned any progress on this or if it’s really possible to fix.
@@DefleMaskNot downgraded but optimized. Can max all on pc. Only big effect with downgrade is Saint Denis population and incoming lawmen that are infinite now instead of stpping when theyre done.
@@DefleMask RDR2 patches and builds is my number one issue with that game, every build of that game has some issues or other, probably the most stable and polished build of RDR2 is patch 1.02 as that was the day one patch and the original vision for the game that Rockstar intended. 1.02 was also before Red Dead Online got added to the game, meaning nothing from Online was conflicting with the story mode and breaking things. Sadly patch 1.02 is inaccessable now, but even then, that version of the game doesn't have some of the extra content like the M1899 Pistol, Evan's Repeater, LeMat revolver, High Roller Revolver and the new bounties that got added in later updates. A lot of people say patch 1.00 is the best version of RDR2 as the ambient occlusion looks different (yet also worse in many instances), John's epilogue model looks SLIGHTLY less cursed and Micah's hair is no longer glitched, but it also has a TON of bugs and glitches and is filled with performance issues because it's an earlier & less optimized build of the game presumably from summer of 2018 before the physical copies were manufactered.

I'll be honest, I was assuming this was gonna be a video relating to the story, in particular LJ, but this was a much more intelligent video than I gave it credit for scrolling past. Well done! That said, I figured this was how it worked, but I figured the PC version just didn't have grass at all.
Man GTA 4 is such a rare kind of game. These devs put so much effort into the physics effects, rag doll effects, using creative art styles, having different gameplay modes, satisfying gameplay mechanics, damage effects and interactive environments. Single player modes and offline modes. Current games focus way too much on graphical nitpicking that they don't realize they are making a terrible game. It's like they've forgotten players enjoy aspects that make games fun?Gaming shouldn't hyper focus on graphics, ray tracing & 4k resolutions
Ive read in a gta forum that for the least amount of z fighting you need to put draw distance at 42 and detail at 20. Thats what i use all the time. These are console values increased by x2 which seem to be the second most stable after original console settings 21 / 10. Please make a video addressing the z-fighting in gta 4
Great video. I wonder, if you have anything planned, to talk about the lighting/shadows, that break after a while, playing IV, when they all just start flickering at night, and not work properly
Even though this felt kind of obvious, I still appreciate that someone made a video to talk about it and inform others. I think quite bit about game design so I was aware of how games generally handle foliage aside of things like trees. I didn't know this game implemented such a low limit though for performance purposes.
At the time R.A.G.E (Rockstar Advance Game Engine) is a spaghetti code mess. It got worse as more games came out till reached the point at RDR1 which was the most buggiest R.A.G.E game ever and did a overhaul with the engine for Max Payne 3 and GTA V. Also GTA IV was the second game to use it but the first game to push the engine hard at the time too so it was the stress test pretty much since game that only used it was Table Tennis lol.
i’m replaying gta 4 right now and i have to say the city itself feels more alive compared to 5. i have never even once thought about the grass of gta 4 but i appreciate this game much more now.
the city is the best oart of the game. I used to look for pigeons on my own at first, and roaming the city in search for secrets was glorious! (but then I thought I could do the same thing IRL and started exploring my hometown with a camera 🙂)
Considering the fact that Rockstar focused on their console ports and just ported their products with minimal support on PC, the higher settings... basically weren't meant to be used! People managed to address such configuration issues without modding the core of the game - showing the indifference of Rockstar towards their already marketed products, such issues would be easy to fix, especially if you get the people who coded the original game to do that. Though in any case the RE editions made by the community were the ultimate solution for GTA fans pre-V. And of course Rockstar took down RE-III and RE-VC, coz they're arrogant assholes.

thing is it 100% *could* be fixed but the negative is it requires the game's source code which obviously isn't legally obtainable at all and likely never will be given Take Two's stance on modding as well as Rockstar's skewed views on what's piracy and what isn't which also pertains to modding because as of now Rockstar is one of 2 major companies that claim modding is piracy with the 2nd being Capcom
Kinda. San Andreas we can't seem to increase the draw distance, but for the most part, the grass that is in the game spawns fine. In IV, grass can break even with default settings in some places.

There is also an issue with the glow effects from lights when pushing the settings to high, for examples at night in a dense Area with alot of cars the lights of the cars does not glow properly and some times starts to flicker.
I never really liked pushing the draw distance up from the defaults anyway... Usually the draw distance is implemented as a gradual fadeout which just looks like fog/haze/mist, and in quite a few settings this both looks good and feels realistic. In fact most games (especially old ones who expected you to run it on fairly low draw distance) has no other haze than the one made by the draw distance limit fadeout, which makes distant objects look too clear; as if there is no atmosphere at all. Besides drawing very distant objects just massively increases the render load for very little benefit. Also if you more or less disable the draw limit (often there are mods or config file changes that allow this) on an old game just because your computer can handle it. you'll often see things spawn in at a distance because the programmers assumed it would be hidden by the limit anyway.
Decal limits also affects particles. One of the more noticeable effects is when you drive in rain and kick up water splashes in lots of traffic. Eventually the splashes stop appearing until fewer cars are splashing water. It was clear that the engine has these limits for performance reasons, but modern modding could probably address that.

I remember one of the first PC patches had a backlash because while it increased performance (much needed) it also removed lots of the rubbish around back alleys and such. Maybe version 1 of this game doesn't have the grass problem either?
I think GTA 4 handles the grass really good in the max render distance because it gives a sense of dynamic changes to the world, a unique experience of grass depending on your exploration
I have this problem in many games. Or problems adjacent to it. I wish i could crank up the draw distance and view distance in some older games to the whole map. But it does not work because the "sprite limit" is quickly reached.

I believe FusionFix fixes these issues? Lamppost shadows and shadows from headlights were very buggy.

It does not *require* the source code, at least not for the entire game. Simply reversing the grass related functions is enough.

The grass in this vid does look kinda RDR ish. RDR’s graphical fidelity is a middle ground between GTA 4 and GTA 5.
