Great stuff man! Love hearing your experiences and perspective. Fantastic tips and I learned a couple things.
I'm a video editor myself with 5 years of experience my current day rate is $500. I'm working my way up to $1200! But I love editing TH-cam videos, and that's what most of the clients do. TH-cam videos and courses. So I may be hitting a price ceiling? I could branch out into commercial/film work like what you do, I'd be interested in trying it.
Love to hear this man! You can definitely up your rates by moving to commercial but it's much harder to get jobs. Gotta hit up producers and build relationships.

Hey Tray, I am starting out as an editor but I have been making fun videos of myself since the past 2 years. I am now thinking of becoming an editor and I know the software I know the basics so how do I practice? or How do I get better? A friend told me to daily follow 2 youtube tutorials and get a larger spectrum of what I can do with the editing software, can you suggest me something? Can you give me a little roadmap to follow to become better in a given time? Thanks
I would say first pick a niche you want to go in. is it youtube creators, films, commercials?
After that I would say study as much as you can on how good videos are made within that niche.
Use tutorials and learn how to replicate cool things that you want to implement into your style.
then start building a portfolio, download youtube videos that arent very well edited and make them better.
then comes the business aspect which i can help you with if you join my discord.

@@captaintwelves8866 I'd say re editing old videos, and offer to work for free or on a performance basis. You have to do those in order to build a portfolio.

It all depends on the sector you are working in you know? If you are editing commercials and corporate probably $2k-$3K

Your information was good but the skill of editing was low for a 10yr guy. I started 1 week ago I am on my first video and is rocking with effects sounds. The guy you mention said:"never upload your first draft" wait few days and look at it you will see all the places you could have improve. cheers
