All K and KE Jetronics from Bosch has a very fine screen filter attached to the inlet side of the fuel distributor. This serves as a final filter before the fuel enters to the most sensitive parts of the fuel system, such as the plunger and barrel, metering slits, and fuel injectors to name a few. A lot of technician overlook this important screen filter because they thought its just a simple fuel inlet line connector. Thanks for showing this part on your video. Well done! All the best!
I have a 1987 vw passat cli, 5 cylinder with K jetronic injection and i've struggled for month with the fuel pressure, i watch this video and just decided to check the filter of that very same screw and low and behold the fuel pump stopped laboring and the car could rev up again. Thanks for you video. The mercedes dealership and workshop did not know about it. Xentry and WIS do not mention that is a filter inside these fittings. Finally I got the part changed and now there is much better acceleration at lower rpms. Cheap an simple job with great effect

The injectors changed, fuel pump changed, fuel filter changed (on each service), turbo rebuilt, turbo return valve rebuilt, turbo pipes checked, spark plugs changed (on each service), WOT valve checked and on more then .6 bar turbo pressure it either failed, or didn't shown any strength. This thing was completely obstructed, and a new one solved it all!!! THANKS!!!!
A good friend is a VW master tech, and he always tell the story how this filter was supposed to be removed on the VW CIS cars at the first oil change, but rarely was and would lead to running problems down the road.

furiousdriving fortunately they are pretty cheap from Latvia, only problem is the postage is always as slow as hell from there. Takes about 1 month to me in Australia.
I just changed mine (1990 300CE). Thank you for showing us this part. Interesting fact is that my local Mercedes Service claimed no such filter exists in this engine... It certainly exists and I can tell that in case of my car it hasn’t been replaced since new (30 years). My first observation was that the old one was definitely not as freely letting the air go through it and the new one. 5 mins job, very satisfying, I made myself believe that the engine runs happier too 😋

Sadly this will probably be one of the last jobs I do on this car. I will be looking to buy something else later this year if the opportunity arrises. I want to get more involved with OBD2 era benzes as electronics and diagnostics is where my interests really are. I only ever got involved with mechanical repairs and maintenance as a young man as a necessity to make every dollar stretch as far as possible, as I age further and money is no longer the main concern I find this sort of work less and less interesting. This car I also never intended to buy, it came to me as a rescue mission. The previous owner contacted me through a work colleague and said he had a benz too good to send to scrap which needed a bit of work. Once i saw the picture of it and the condition it was in, it was love at first sight. I have probably spent near 10 thousand dollars on this car for my amusement and in reality it is only worth 3 - 5 If i'm lucky. I will probably cover it up and just forget about it when the new car comes along.
MMWA what kind of symptoms does a car have when that filter is clogged and what is the benefit of changing it out to a new one, I'm a curious one in nature, so this is just for my curiosity and would appreciate you sharing your knowledge

There is no such filter on Audi 100 C3, at least on the RT engine 1989-1990. There is a "thing" looking like the above filter, but I dismounted it and it had no filter in it.

turns out that even though i rebuilt the fuel distro above the MAF , i was still getting loads of fuel dumped into the engine , changed it out with another Distro and wow ran perfect first turn of the key, seams an injector inside has gone and i cant find the replacment jetss , shame i spent £60 on the kit and now got a dead fuel distro ! but atleast its running as it should
At 2.42 in your video you take off a pipe iv drained my fuel tank of old petrol my question is if I took off the pipe you have just did could I drain the remaining old fuel in the line under the power of the car ?
in my opinion the best way to drain the tank is to disconnect the large suction hose that runs between the bottom of the tank and the first fuel pump from the pump side. Have a suitable sized bucket ready because the fuel comes out very fast. While the tank is empty you can install a new screen filter in the tank too. I have to do all this in my red w124 and will make a video next year.

I always have to add fuel to the fuel bowl to get my 300sl started 1991 I change the fuel filter plugs rotor and distributor cap check both fuel pumps seemed fine doesn't seem like fuel is getting to the engine any idea or help from anyone.
Hi I have the same engine in my coupe, it will not start when cold I managed to start it and was very smooth and run great I have changed one of the fuel pumps ,the plugs ,dis cap would any one know what I can replace ( the cold start temperature sensor ,cold start injector ,the other fuel pump ,the OVP relay, the MAS relay ) I am getting a good spark .I have spent a lot of time and money on painting the car but now it's got to the point were I am very close to towing this car to the scrap yard and calling it a day..My car is a 1993 300 ce coupe . Ивица Јовановић the difference could have been imagined. Ultimately a fuel pressure gauge would tell if there was any difference. I do have one too but didn’t think to test at the time. I don’t think this makes a big difference unless the original is severely restricted.

lots of one off purchases come from ebay, theres many european sellers with new old stock benz parts not available anywhere else. I also buy from fcp euro some things they have in stock of decent brands. I buy quite a bit locally for service items too

its the first generation M104 with KE-jet. Only existed for a few years and was then turned into the 3.2 litre m104 from 1993 onwards. In the USA the engine was used in 2 cars only, the 1990-1992 300CE & 300SL. here and other parts of the world it was available in sedans and estates too and called the 300E-24 etc.
MMWA Ok that 24v engine. Of course. I had the assumption theyd be all motronic/lh-airflow gauge and solenoid injectors. But thanks, now I am a tiny bit more educated again.
there is one version of this engine, enlarged to 3.2 litres still with aluminium intake manifold but no KE-jet used on 1990-92 W140 300SE. it has mas airflow meter and electronic fuel injectors. That engine exists in no other car, perhaps thats where you saw it.
You know what, mine has started to as well - ever since I changed the fuel pumps the fuel pressure has increased and now the car runs worse - almost like there is a bit of a vacuum leak. Shifting from R to D sometimes it feels like it wants to stall though it doesn't. It never used to do this before. I did have to adjust the duty cycle after changing pumps too. I will get to the bottom of it sooner or later.

one last inquiry before you retire! what part on a '91 300sel would suddenly create a very loud scraping noise after a rapid acceleration then cause the engine to cut off & not restart several minutes later? I pulled over & popped the hood but couldn't determine the source. RPM's were normal. I've had a crank no start issue for 2 months now with mechanics giving different opinions. Autobahn Auto in Hampton, VA wants me to buy a new engine without first opening it up to see what,if anything, is actually wrong with it. it didn't overheat or lose oil pressure before cutting off. check engine light didn't come on. timing chain is intact. car ran great since buying it from a doctor a year ago. Help! Work and everything else is suffering! Thanks, Kevin
Beautiful Body i gotta say that definitely does not sound good. Is the motor actually turning? Ie can you see the fan spinning? My guess is the timing chain has let go and caused a catastrophic engine failure. Take off the valve cover to verify.
Beautiful Body if the body and interior is still good id consider sourcing a good used engine and transmission and just swapping them out. Or at least the engine. Im not sure what differences there are on the w124 but there were thousands sold so should be plenty out there. Some swapping of bits between them may be needed to make it fit the 126, im not sure.
Hussain Jamal it is the MAS unit, which incorporates the fuel pump relay among other things. The object was to depressurise the fuel system, but in reality it still poured out everywhere anyway. Venting tank pressure makes sure fuel does not continue to flow out of the disconnected supply line, which happens on this car if I don't open the cap before opening fuel system.
@@MMWA-DAVE I onces tried this trick when doing a fuel pressure regulator on my sisters Pontiac Grand Prix. Pulled the relay, the engine stalled a moment later. Unfortunately there was still a lot of pressure in the system and I got a face full of gasoline. I'm glad I was wearing glasses, not contacts that day! Still got a bunch of gas in my eyes... man that hurt!
compu85 heh, fortunately I’ve not experienced this yet. These days i put a cloth around the connection while loosening as I dont like getting fuel everywhere let alone on my hands.

Nothing drives better than these old benz's. Unless you get a new E class or greater. Forget it.

Its on the packet in the video X-ref is refering to MB part number. Which is 0000746086 for this particular version.
How did you know that little brass colored inlet fitting needed to be replaced ? The old part you took out still looked in good condition

Is that car a 300CE? If so, I'd love to know the part number for the fuel pump relay
its 300E-24 which has m104.980 engine. If you are in USA, your 1990 to 1992 300CE used the same engine.

Beautiful Body if the body and interior is still good id consider sourcing a good used engine and transmission and just swapping them out. Or at least the engine. Im not sure what differences there are on the w124 but there were thousands sold so should be plenty out there. Some swapping of bits between them may be needed to make it fit the 126, im not sure.

Hussain Jamal it is the MAS unit, which incorporates the fuel pump relay among other things. The object was to depressurise the fuel system, but in reality it still poured out everywhere anyway. Venting tank pressure makes sure fuel does not continue to flow out of the disconnected supply line, which happens on this car if I don't open the cap before opening fuel system.
@@MMWA-DAVE I onces tried this trick when doing a fuel pressure regulator on my sisters Pontiac Grand Prix. Pulled the relay, the engine stalled a moment later. Unfortunately there was still a lot of pressure in the system and I got a face full of gasoline. I'm glad I was wearing glasses, not contacts that day! Still got a bunch of gas in my eyes... man that hurt!
compu85 heh, fortunately I’ve not experienced this yet. These days i put a cloth around the connection while loosening as I dont like getting fuel everywhere let alone on my hands.
