Thank you for posting this video. The golf course that I work at just bought a tire machine and the instructions are so bad !!! I had to browse TH-cam and your video was by far the best for explaining the process. I will be using the machine mainly for small rims and tires like what you find on golf carts and mowers. my machine is equipped and can handle these small rims but without instructions the process was frustrating Thanks for explaining the basics, my machine now works effortlessly !
I've been doing this line of work for 16 years and it's amazes me that how badass this job actually is. I've been doing top notch custom installs customized rims and such. And when the install is done the transformation from stock to upgrade is amazing. It's kinda like doing art but on cars. Fucking love doing this shit and I get paid damn good money to do it
That's funny cause it's exactly how I explain painting cars makes me feel. I could never draw and sucked at art in general, but I can smash out an amazing paint job.
Very good, this is going to help a bunch for me to start using my tire changing equipment. I justed didn't want to damage any on my nice rims and understanding the instructions with the tire changer aren't anywhere close to the benefit of watching your video. Thanks a bunch!
Very good! Your tutorial is exactly what i was looking for: how to put the tyres on ALLOY rim! And as you used all the parts provided by the machine, you're video become one of the best :) Thx man
Dennis Buckmeir the assistant arm is a life saver. I also just got a hunter tire machine with the bead press system which is really nice. Thanks for watching!
Thanks. I havent touched a tire machine since 2018, starting my first day at tire kingdom tomorrow. Needed a little refresh video so i dont look like an idiot on my first day
As someone who used to do 120-180 tires a day, you really don't need the assist arm, use your knuckles on the tire and push down and follow the machine, the stiffer the tire the more weight you have to put on it. The heavier and stronger you are the better. Other then that pretty good video, but change the machine to a centered arm one even at a good pace this is really slow.
I work in a tire shop in a store that requires you to have a membership to shop there and sells goods and wholesale prices (wont say just in case....but i think we all know which store i am talking about) . One of the beauties of our machines is instead of having the traditional duck it has a hydraulic hook that can grab and set the bead for you, makes installing run flats and low profiles much easier. Thanks for the video, instead of paying a shop to install my new tires on my new mags i will just do it myself with the knowledge i already have, plus knowing how the manual machines work is even better!
Hey mate, I just bought a pair of new wheels i plan on getting ceramic coated. Should I get the rims ceramic coated before or after I put tyres on. Will the tyre process scratch off the coat or damage my rims ?
Great job on your tutorial. It's been 30 years since I used a near identical machine in Phoenix Arizona at Cobre Tire. My uncle's brother has a little tire shop here in the boonies of West Virginia, still uses a bubble balancer and plugs flats of mag wheels. (I cringe) They have some cheap versions of this machine on the internet that would drag my uncle's brother into the 21st century. I would love to help him buy one, along with the machine balancer, just to relive some old times. But I think he plans to retire in the near future.
I just want to say you're videos are great 👍. Not to be a stickler but the thing u take out of the valve stem is called a Schrader. So when you say you have to take the valve stem out or off ppl will totally get confused. Luckily I just know this from heating n air conditioning and tires themselves but yes the special tool is a Schrader valve remover. So anyone that's confused the actual stem stays put. It's a little thing inside the stem
Thanks for the video. I'm trying to figure out how all of my new rims got damaged. The tire shop won't do anything to fix it other than offer to put touch up paint on my rims.
To avoid this make sure you take them to a nice place with a clean workshop like you see in this video and one who specialises in selling alloy wheels etc. And some shops have expensive touchless tyre changers.
Mr Atkins is that a coach tire machine you're using I'm about to start a job with Firestone and it got coach machines it's similar to the one you have it just doesn't have the roller or the duck head is I wish it did that would be great but anyway I learned a lot by watching your video all right thanks stay safe have a good day
Thanks for your help and keep up keep sending the good videos I learned a lot by watching your videos this way I don't damage anybody's rims because I'm a maintenance tech at Firestone I learned a lot by watching your stuff thanks you have a good day talk to you soon
:Doing a simulation of the whole process in vr as my thesis. So the set screw at the top that you had set at ~7:06 is to set the radius of the arm so it won't come any closer to the center of the rim right? But you theoretically could push the arm further away from the rim right?
Firewalker124 yes you are correct. You are still able to move it back to the right. I do a lot with VR in my class using the VR program “Wrench”. Your project sounds amazing and I have a few questions about it. Would you be willing to talk via email or phone? If you look me up on Twitter “MrAdkinsAuto” you can see my VR setup.
Damm I just started working at a shop and sometimes I change tires. We only pop the bead once on the face and twice on the back. U went a good 20 times on the back lol. Is that really necessary?
Do you think 12 gallons tank can inflate flat 21 inch tire and get it on the rim after tire change ? If i just prefill air tank with any compressor and run cheapest tire changer machine from 8 bar air tank
My question is I have a 1952 caravan and the gap where the tyres goes in is extremely tight and I've ordered 6.00 x 16'' tyres instead of the 6.50 x 16'' that was on the van. When having the new tyres fitted to the steel rims can I have no air in the tyres n tubes, fit the tyres to the van and then add the air to set the tyre against the rim.
It’s called “rubeglide”. NAPA carries it along with most other automotive part stores. Basically it’s soapy water but dries with very little residue. Thanks for watching!
You only have to break the bead in one spot and then throw it up in the table. Just simply pushing down on the sidewall will easily break it the rest of the way. That way you don’t have to spend so much time in the shovel
I don't remember but I believe it came off of an older Mazda 5 (2005 maybe?). Was a students car and they bent the rim. We use it for measuring rim runout. Sorry
A lot of different companies make them but they are all pretty much the same. Lower cost ones have a table top like the one in this video. More expensive ones have a center post the rim mounts to and also might uses rollers to assist in breaking the bead, etc.
Assalamu Alaikum how are you brother brother I am also a mechanic like you I work in tire shop like you I have last seven years of experience can you tell me which mechanic is needed in your shop I am a Bangladeshi citizen I am 20 years old my name is Mohammad Arif Hossain
at 3.48 the knock on the alloy to the machine, that freaked me out. Then worse still at 9.01 when he drops the metal bar onto the alloy, that's just a massive NO NO. Some people look after their cars and wheels and this is NOT how to treat someone's wheels. Take pics of your wheels ALWAYS BEFORE they get done, so you can prove they've caused any type of damage or scratch to them. This is a great video in showing you HOW damage can be caused to your wheels but you just DID NOT KNOW where it occurred!! Now you know!! Listen, it is not an easy job and you need to use a bit of effort however, care people's wheels, they are coming to PAY for damage when you see issues at the timestamps I've shown! I have a local tyre place to me in London and I only let one guy at my Rims as he's been there for 20 years and he's class, everyone goes there because he's well experienced and cares for people's cars and wheels!!
You watched the whole video to find two times he MIGHT have caused the absolute tiniest mark on the wheel. 1000% guarantee setting the pry bar on the wheel didn't scratch the wheel. Clown.
3:46 was that metal on alloy on the outside rim😱 I'm sooooo paranoid about my tyres getting changed because I'm OCD with my alloys. Other then that. Very informative👌
absolute zero if they put a rag under the bar it will keep it from scratching the rim. Also, they make a plastic sleeve to go over the bar if you are really concerned. Thank for watching!!
When installing a tire some say inside some say outside and some dont say nothing . The tire has the dot date in one side and the other side has the dot number but not the date on tires like that how can i determine witch side is front or backwards
I will admit some tires are directional, but they usually have an arrow. As for the DOT/date tag, owners preference. I had idiots insist tire had to have DOT tag mounted to the inside, or outside. It probably looks better out of site. A guy I worked for bought a big lot of tires at a very cheap price, the DOT number showed tires were 10 years old.
This video explains why rims always come back dinged up at the edges after I get my tires changed. Slamming that big metal arm against the rim while breaking the bead like that.
You should train the oafs at Halfords in the UK. They damaged all four alloy wheels in the faces. They blamed a poor previous refurb. Maybe they should have stopped after the first was damaged 😤 To top it off they are refusing to pay for the repairs. Only half cost of two wheels 😤 All this and they have no touch machines!
I use Hunter Engineering and love their machines. Their website has links to your local sales rep. This machine was about $6,000-7,000 but cheaper options are available for closer to $3,000. The service rep then has to come out and assemble it.
GOOD JOB you must need a good eye if a customer gives you those spray on chrome rims like i just got ripped off for by WHEEL SMART LLC Houston, TX United States of America my 2017F150
Shows how to not damage alloy rims... and yet he slams the duck head down onto it multiple times and drops the lever onto it. He also lets the lever come off the “ducks head” & drop onto the rim when it’s rotating. None of these were necessary to the process, & ironically all of these practices cause damage to the lip of an alloy rim. Otherwise not too bad, but if those were my new shiny rims I’d be pissed.
Thank you for the feedback. The video is intended for my students practicing on rims in class so I can understand the confusion of others watching them. My tire machine mounting head (duck head) has a plastic piece inside it so that the metal mounting head does not actually contact the rim. It's not hitting the rim as bad as it sounds and then the locking lever actually lifts the mounting head up off the rim. As far as the lever goes, when we do a nice rim for real (not class practice), I have a plastic sleeve that does over the bar does the metal does not hit the rim. The problem is they wear out really fast. Great observations and thanks for the comment!

You mentioned breaking the bead in the 12 and 6 o clock position but what is the reference point to know where that is?
Think of the valve stem as 3 or 9 o'clock. You are avoiding the bead breaking lever making contact with valve stem.
