    Would you buy mini-LED over OLED? What would be the deciding factor?

    • @birdtj82

      The technology. I will PICK a 120hz, VA, high local dimming MINI LED, thats NOT RGB OLED Panel(funny color blending )-under whelming , Dim n Black crushing. Paying $$$$ to be -part of OLED club to feel better applies to ppl but not me :) I’d buy Samsung/ Hisense/ SHARP Aquos XLED) n i feel happy. :) It’s BIG win. :)

      4k mini led display with the brightest and the most color saturated display with the most color saturated setting with hdr enabled. I have the display on manual brightness maxed out on 100% with autobrightness turned off, power savings turned off, with local dimming turned off it's available as an option otherwise the lowest dimming settings possible with the backlight as bright as possible to make the display as bright as possible. I don't want any part of the screen to be dim at all while making the display too bright. I'm used to very bright displays. It there was an option to choose how many nits on the TV, I would choose 4,000 nits since there are movies recorded with 4,000 nits plus I can turn down the brightness if necessary. Every device that I use with a display, I max out the screen brightness since I don't use dark mode, autobrightness turned off, power savings turned off, screen saver turned off, backlight as bright as possible. These brightness display settings I use are the same way when I use my phone. However, every display that I use with an oled display already have burn in issues so that's why I choose mini led since there are no burn in issues with mini led since I need the max brightness possible. Until there will be micro led displays than the display settings will all be the same with every device that I use with a display whether they are oled or not oled. I wish smartphones have mini led displays until micro led displays become available in the future. I wish samsung still had an option for a curve 4k tv. Ever since I started using a 4k curve tv from samsung since 2014, I love using the curve display and it made me never want to go back to a flat display. My first 55 inch 4k tv was from samsung back in 2014 that had a curve display. The 4k tv back in 2014 did not have hdr since hdr did not exist and it was using an older hdmi 1.4. The 2014 tv from samsung was using a very old version of tizen and to navigate the menu was like using the nintendo wii remote on the TV which it uses air motions to navigate the menus. The 2014 tv was very slow and it required a usb dongle to use wifi since the wifi won't work without the wifi dongle. I upgraded to the 65 inch 2017 samsung curve qled 4k tv with hdr and hdmi 2.0 with the samsung one connect box with the upgraded version of tizen. It was a huge upgrade and I even upgraded my 2017 qled 4k tv to its latest software version and there are no ads on my tv. The only thing that I liked about the 2014 tv from samsung is that it included game fly as the gaming service even though I never use game fly.

    Thanks for the down to earth 'real world' review - made me feel at ease purchasing the 55" version of this as I too was not sure on OLED pricing & possible oled future issues. Have bought & seen many other standard Hisense tv's & and not had any issues with any, one of which is about 7 years old and still going strong. Looking forward to my delivery of the U8K! thanks & keep up the great reviews 🙂

    What I appreciate the most is you are upfront about getting the TV for free. One of my biggest issues with YT channels is getting free products and not disclosing that they getting the product for free and then proceed to rave about the product as if they actually bought it, when in fact they want to keep the free products flowing to them as their #1 objective, thus the reviews are really product demos, not reviews.

    • @MarkEllisReviews
      @MarkEllisReviews  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Appreciate the kind words. The only thing I’d say is that content creators who treat their channels as businesses (as I do) won’t be doing it to receive free stuff (trust me - you can have too many TVs and smartphones!). I can’t speak for everyone, obviously, but it’s important to make that distinction 😉

    • @nrnoble
      @nrnoble 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MarkEllisReviews Thanks for the background info. Can you speak to the ability to sell those free those products or giving them to friends
      elatives? I personally don't have a problem with anyone be sent free products, my issue is the lack of discloser with some channels especially when a YT channel is labeling a video as a review and presenting it as an unbiased opinion that raves about it (ie Just the good points). I am savvy enough to determine if it is a review or is a demo, but people coming to YT only occasionally seeking good\balanced information are unlikely to detect the difference.

    Have you been able to correct for the 6500k backlight preventing a dim image from actually looking warm instead of purple? The intense blue of the backlight can't help but corrupt the color at low light. Additionally, found any way to have color correction actually affect the interface? Video can look great, but then when it's over, you're kicked back to the crazy bright and blue tinged UI.

    2022 and 2023 have been some of the best years for us AV Nerds (TM) in a long time. We've literally had something for everyone the past 2 years: peak WOLED via LG's MLA; 2nd generation QD-OLED; and miniLED! There's something for PC enthusiasts, gaming console enthusiasts, and purists who crave filmlike accuracy. And the prices, at least in the US, have been some of the best bang for the buck, ever. I'm 46, so I am old enough to have grown up with VHS and NTSC broadcast TV. Kids today have no idea just how good their display technology is! This also means I'm old enough to call seeing LG demo its first WOLED (this is the term commonly used for WRGB panels with the white subpixel) at 1080p, and a 55" version could run into the five figures early on. I think this fall will be when the wife and I finally upgrade from a lower mid range LED to either a miniLED or an LG C3 series WOLED.

      I am on same boat. U wanna check out d Japanese--Aquos XLED before the C3. I will not d C3, on d rtings.come u re welcome to check the “color volume” test on all the d premium TVs last a few list.
      The C3 color volume(which dictates Vibrancy, rich color on high brightness) is very low at like rated maybe 7.8/10 something like that . Like 40th place. Like Qm8 sits at highest (tested) at 9.0 align with QD-OLED. --U8K has not be tested so its missing on the chart but expect to match up. Even last yr u8H , also Samsung 2021 QN90A both at 8.9 at richness of color.
      OLEDS like C1, C2 all 7.9 something. N its insane. Even their G2 , only got 8.1/10.
      The COLOR n emersive vibrancy butter glossy warm rich tone. Those OLEDs just do NOT have. U better get QD-OLED if aiming at C3. 😊 so dim like 800ish nit. Peak. So not worth it. Losing peak brighnesss losing color volume, n losing on budget. 😅

    And keep the box somewhere in the basement, for later. You’ll be happy you did!

    Not sure if the 60fps style is a new standard you're trying out, but I definitely vote to keep it! Regarding the TV, it's definitely out of my budget lol, and is honestly too big for my space. The max size I can realistically handle is 50 inches, but 45-48 is really the ideal. Oh well, the Samsung one I have is still doing great! I'm actually thankful for how long TVs last. Like they don't seem to run into the obsolescence that computers, consoles, phones, tablets, etc have. As long as it turns on and there's no burn in / ghosting / etc issues, TV's seem to last for decades!

    I got a Samsung cu8000, my lowest requirement was good uhd picture Atmos and 3 hdmi. Sound is never an issue nowadays as the TVs are too thin to fit decent speakers. Film maker is odd for me as it seems to defeat HDR on Samsung tvs, and I've had 3. Maybe it looks better, but then why UHD? You are right about looking for the best picture, when it doesn't really make much difference when actually watching it. I've had the same problem. While my wife is happy it's on the wall and working, I'm looking at wet fruit with a black background. But put ready player 1 on and we're all on the same page🙃

I already have OLED Sony A80J and its great, but now I need one more 65" for my gaming room and I'm looking at something cheaper. 65U8K is in that price range. I will be playing Fifa (EAFC) and watch football on it (50%-50%). You have said that there is no DSE on your set, and that we better not look for it. I agree, once you see it you cant unsee it, but on that football green screen panning left-right you don't need to look for it, you cant miss it. So, what's the situation with DSE while playing Fifa? Hi Mark great review. However, I had the 65" u8kq for 3 weeks, but then I noticed that the backlight did not stay at 100. Sometimes when I switched the channel, the backlight switched back to 50. In the settings the backlight value was still at 100, but I was able see with my own eyes that the brightness had dropped dramatically and seemed to be back to backlight of 50. When I then went down with the backlight value by just one, so to 99, the screen became immediately bright again as it should be at 99. And after switching channels it happened again and again that the tv did not "save" the selected backlight value of 100 . Mark please tell me if your U8K also has a problem with having backlight on 100...? Maybe I only had a defected panel... I already returned my u8kq because of this backlight issue... But I am wondering if I should buy it again because I maybe was just unlucky....?

The stores will keep selling “ oh it looks in d dark, its best, its this that”its just marketing, cuz it pushes OLED panel out of store in 2X 3X price when they do NOT look that impressive at home

      @@markchristantaguiam819 yeah get the 65”. I already have 1700nit va Panel tv at home 65”. I wanted to go to store to see if 75” was going to make a DIFFERENCE ENOUGH to UPGRADE (not visual much, but upgrade in SIZE). Like ppl wonder if they ahve NICE 😊 Sedan 🚘, will a UPGRADE to SUV on Same brand to Make Major jump in terms enjoyment. The 75” was MAJOR upgrade in visual enjoyment than 65”. (Adding takes at least 11 -12 feet away from 75” TV tho.
      There is HUGE difference in user end experience with 65” vs 55” C3. Its like All supped UP Infiniti Q70T with 14 Bose speakers, elite handling vs like Hyundai Genesis coup, small. (i have been in both cars lol )

    It's cheper to import US model, pay taxes, import duty and shipping and still save hundreds of euros/pounds.
    SHAME ON HISENSE. This brand should be avoided !!!
