Let's be real here. Son goes out breaking their backs trying to make money for the family.
Traditionally speaking, the wife controls the finance. She puts the husband on payroll.
The parents are forced to be good to the daughter in law in fear she would just leave.
Wives don't cook no more. They just watch korean drama and girl power.

Totally agree with you. So many generations of daughters in law were used as domestic helpers and nursing home caregivers. They worked in the background, providing care for the in laws and their own husbands and children. Unappreciated and unacknowledged. Taken for granted. No wonder young women don't want to marry so early now.

Another reason for this is the forced male conscription into the military.
This result in more "aggressive men".
As men are in the military women can advance their career as men are still training .
as a result the preference shift is stronger right now . The conscription need to be made full gender and noncompulsory.
Also there are women only universities so most men meet women at work and not even in university..

    1. As the professor says, it's consequences of gender-selective abortions in the 1980s-90s that aborted more girls than boys.
    2. Every young person seems to want to move to Seoul, and every young country girl especially want to escape rural life. The only reason Seoul is spared the gender imbalance is because all the rural country girls are moving there for jobs and to avoid life as a farmer's wife.
    3. For the girls who remain in small towns, most women don't want to marry men with less education than them, so many male farmers are bringing and marrying foreign women from Vietnam or the Philippines who are trying to escape poverty in those countries.

South Korea is not alone in gender imbalance. I am a white American female. I was adopted in 1953 from a family of nine; three boys and six girls. My birth parents kept the boys and the first two girls. Four of us girls were given up for adoption. This preference was the norm all over the world. Then in the 1980s there was international adoption of Korean male children; I know four men of Korean ethnicity between the ages of 30-38 years old who were adopted by white American couples. This has always confused me, but since viewing this video I understand the reasons.

That isn't really the same thing, given you're still alive. Gender imbalances at the scale that effects family formation down the line require sex-selective abortion (or infanticide). Also, at least these days, it's actually the reverse - girls are adopted more readily than boys, with the commonly cited reason being women driving the adoption process and generally somewhat preferring to parent girls.

@@1953lili you are WRONG!! Male children preference was GLOBAL!!!! 😬😬😬 It's so crazy the amount of lies women fell for.
Do you know Why women live longer? It has to do with the lies in talking about. The lies that appear as truth today, the same truth YOU believe as truth.
We ALL value life right???? Right??? Universally. So why do WOMEN 1. Give life 2. Live LONGER.
Do you think those two things are significant at all? So you think they are a coincidence?
Why do men say THEY are superior but women hold on to the MOST valuable thing LONGER????
Why do men say THEY have more value but CANT STOP CHASING WOMEN and LOOK WOMEN are wanting NOTHING to do with men.
I ask these they are ALL following the same pattern. The pattern being they don't match social NORM. These are NATURE not matching social norms which are MAN-MADE and therefore INFERIOR.
That means the inferior thing is the LIE. that means what you believe IS the LIE. and you believe it bc it was told and multiplied by men and used to infect women's minds so women no longer know what's truth.
So here's the truth as I have researched it. Women are SUPERIOR. By leaps and BOUNDS. In fact with women's true superiority, men CANNOT even exist. But that's another discussion.
Piintim trying to make is females are STURDIER. Which means in ANY environment, culture, more girls would be born because boys die way more before birth. So if you're seeing ANY "equal" birth ratio, or more boys, it's because girls have been ABORTED or KILLED, as kids or even adults.
      PERIOD.
so the 1:1 sex ratio in America, yeah dead females, to the tune of MILLIONS. Just so the math. Let's say I'm wrong and I'm some crazy lady on the Internet. You HAVE heard men die younger right? Ok. If there was no female infanticide AND boys and girls are born at the same rate, then of men die younger, something verifable, then the sex ratio would NOT be equal would it! EVER based on just that alone.
That again proves an imbalance favoring WOMEN is NATURAL.
But we have gender balance bc men are killing women at ALL ages. So no there was not any absence of male preference or female infanticide in US. it IS GLOBAL.

However, if your daughter does not marry, she is better looking after her parents as it was a role she was taught to fulfil for her husbands family.

Yes, but I wouldn't call it a boycott as much as it's just a practical/safety thing to do or a way of life / movement. Domestic violence is really high and sadly there have been an increase in cases in the public (example stalking, violence, etc) that have resulted in trauma. It's no different than in America where there are plenty of people who would rather stay single than date, but there's a name for it in SK. It's called 4B, aka No Dating, Sex, Marriage, Children (which all kinda already happens if you just choose not to date in general). Also to note, there are different types of people in this movement, not everyone is opposed to dating/sex/marriage, most just don't want children (for reference almost 50% of men in the younger generation don't want kids), but they are all clumped together in this movement.
Example, most recently, there was a random guy (20s) who went into a convenience store and attacked a female store clerk (20s) bc she "looked" like a feminist due to her short haircut (the store clerk didn't know the man nor did she interact with him in the store prior to the assault, also she was not a feminist, she had a shoulder length bob cut), the guy part of a men's rights activist group and his belief was "I think feminists deserve to be assaulted". He even continued to attack another customer (50s) with a chair when they tried to intervene. These attacks are becoming more frequent, it's difficult to tell who is an extremist anymore so many people believe it's easier / safer to just not date at all.

It's boycotting marriage who don't make any sense where you lose your personality, you're not being treated with respect, you lose money since you can't work as much, you lose your professional experience since you have to stop working at some point to have babies, you lose your body because you have a baby.... and the only purpose seems to procreate while you end up in depression...with a man that can leave you anytime and create a new family while you have lost so much. Most women would be glad to be in a happy/respectful marriage or committed relationship that is a true partnership. That makes things easier for everyone, men and women. Meaning both men and women agreed prior the marriage of what their role would be but it seems that for some men it's too much to ask. Men complain women don't want them anymore when women just say they don't want be with a men just because. Since more women can take care of themselves they don't need a man for financial protection. They need respect and partnership and loyalty and the men who understand that instead of complaining do not struggle. To many women have seen the impact of such "forced" marriage on their mothers and grandmother's. It never ended well for them. People often say it was better before.... But for whom really...

But an even bigger cost in Korea is the hakwons or specialized tutoring for piano, math, english, etc. That's truly what's behind the huge cost of raising children. It's funny how Koreans take so much pride in being college grads but they lack the skills to teach their own children for free at home? You learn at a young age that a square does not fit in a round hole and yet Koreans have determined that all of their children will be academics? It's beyond belief that people think this way. Can I get a rundown as to how this makes sense? Shouldn't we then aspire to slow down the destruction of the old ways as an attempt to raise birth rates?

ahh yes, modern feminism, where woman act more like men, then wonder why society is going down the drain with the declining birthrate. They dont like the idea of "gender roles" but its worked for thousands of years. Men and woman are not the same.

Lmao! Very Spartan of you to suggest women’s rights be taken away because let me guess, your “masculinity is under attack” tho right?
Because the thought that the western women or worse the feminazi are waging this covert war on you so that men will never succeed and will succumb to a life of being some underpaid beta cuck because how DARE women pursue an education and strive for anything else outside of being a house slave or a prostitute.
Because the biggest threat to the American national security is educated western women because we are buying all the guns and unaliving men. it’s comedy That yall actually believe women are the enemy when it’s is YOUR politician and UOIR government officials that raping ALL of us raw and sand papery hard.
Im continually amazed at the lack of introspection honestly.

Recently, I started watching true crimes that take place in Korea.
Really interesting but not in a good way at all 😢
This week I saw about these two criminals called “god god” and “Nth”.
    Horrifying...simply put.
Knowing that women are abused like this still!, I don’t blame them for not wanting to marry 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is not a passport bro country at all. It’s a very homogeneous population and foreigners are looked down upon, a little less so from ultra wealthy countries. This isn’t some country where foreign men swoop girls off their feet, Seoul is more modern than probably all western cities and Korean education is among top in the world.

one of the reasons why people in Korea suddenly preferring girls bc when a couple marrys the groom's side have to buy apartment or house. Obviously it's pretty expensive and more boys they have more financial burden they have, when said boys marrys. Also same in China. I read that's the biggest reason China's people started to preferr having a girl 😂😂

@@KangTheDigitalNomadGlobeTreker Gay marriage is not legal in Korea. Therefore when they say gender imbalance is making it harder for Korean men, they could let the queer Korean men get married and marriage then wouldn't be harder for Korean men.
