A lot of people are hating on Sam's vocals, but I think his voice really works well with the track. honestly I think his vocals are really what make foxygen stand out from all the other modern psychedelic rock bands.
They're genuinely soulful vocals, I'm sick of white kids singing like Tame Impala or Chet Baker, its as tired as everyone sounding like Eddie Veddar in the 90s
@user there is only so much you can do with the western world diatonic "scale". You cite Van Morrison(who is also a badass!), but almost everything diatonic was was already completed by Classical composers, Elvis, Hank, and John/Paul. Its incredibly easy to accidentally rip off anything western hemisphere. Some will say "but, but..blues started it all...". It did start the future of pentatonic. Credit those dudes for Zepplin, White Stripes, RATM, Clapton, ACDC, and the god forsaken Black Keys(they rip off bands on purpose). Thats my informative rant lol. Peace, rock on!
@@ronchorivera I'll never buy that there can't be anything new just based on combos a lone but who knows what could happen the 60s had to develop but it started somewhere. I heard this song for the first time in an H&M store in Dotonbori, Osaka so many years ago. This was THE song of that entire trip, and it still takes me back
First time hearing these guys and I must say they have a sweet , polished sound . A catchy arrangement , great bass line with classy horns and strings put this song up on a very high level . Throw in a romantic , upbeat and hopeful theme you have it - a great song . Well done Foxygen !
i've never seen such a high dislike ratio the way that foxygen has on just a normal indie video. seriously the haters come out of nowhere for this band. they need to shut up and F off. respect foxygen's talent & vision
Moves like a young Jaguar. Sounds like Elvis Costello and a bit like Thin Lizzie...Amazing someone so young can emulate true rock and roll of that time, then revive it all over again in it’s true raw form. Love it and I’m 66! 🙋🏻♀️
I remember meeting Sam after a show in Bloomington, IN. It was outside and I saw sam talking to a small group of people behind the stage and along with my friend went up to him and congratulated him on a great set and told him that we were fans (without being THOSE fans) and he was kind and very laid back the latter of which surprised me given his erratic stage persona. Good times.
Can't get enough of this song/video. When we are in our 80s, we'll drone on boringly to our grandchildren about how we already recognized this band as super-awesome in 2013.(And they won't believe us--little shits).
Was curious after watching a Amazon (I think) commercial. I'm happy that I didn't stumble upon crappy rap or something bad. These guys seem like a well needed. breath of fresh air in the music industry.
I like rap when it's done well instead of the rubbish like 'mumble rap' and 'gangster rap'. This is the first time I've heard of this band and I think they rock! I wish that commercial radio would pitch this kind of music again to younger audiences.
Foxygen is an excellent band, but one of the first reviews I ever read about them still holds true: " It's like they took the best chunks of breaks and samples from their parents record collection."
LYRICS: Hey baby, you know it's true I'm in love with you Babe, but you never (Never gonna be what I want) No, you're never gonna be (Never gonna be what I want) Yeah, I was shotgunned lovers on the avenue Yes, it's true, he's much too old for you Babe, but you never (Never gonna be what I want) No, you're never gonna be (Never gonna be what I want) I know sometimes everyone wants to be someone else So follow the leader Follow the leader Follow the leader and the leader is you Yeah, follow the leader Follow the leader and the leader is you, yeah Fun in the summertime There's no better way to spend our time, baby But that's never (Never really what's it's about) No, no, no, no, that's never really what it's about Oh yeah, I know what you're thinking You could never get me to cheat on you Babe, but it's never (Never really what's it's about) Stop making me feel (Never really what's it's about) I know sometimes everyone wants to be someone else Oh, you people know that's true, yeah So follow the leader Follow the leader Just follow the leader and the leader is you, yeah Follow the leader Follow, follow the leader and the leader is you, yeah Sha, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Nick Falletta Totally. Though, wish I had not looked up the vid, because now he reminds me of the first time I saw John Cougar on SNL trying to be Mick Jagger. Ugh. lol. But def cool little song, like it anyway.
the video appears to derive influence from several scenes in "godspell" (1973), with sam as jesus, jonathan as john the baptist, and an assortment of frolicking disciples.
Are you suggesting that everything that came out in 1977 contained disco elements? 1977 is when Rumours came out. Low, Exodus and Rocket to Russia too. (That being said, the strings in this are very disco)
It still sounds more early 1970s soul music, then late 70s music. Which was a lot of disco, sense disco became popular in mid 1970s. Yes punk rock excited, but it was still underground. Heck electronic music out in the 70s, Thanks to bands such as Kraftwerk. I say this sounds a mix between soul, and disco. It has a very 70s vibe "ya dig". That what I was implying by my previous comment.
1977 also had Punk Rock, Power Pop like Cheap Trick and a lot of pop/rock. Disco wasn't the only form of music then, I was a little kid, but bands like Aerosmith and Queen (I don't like either of those bands) were big then. A LOT of 1 or few hit wonders like Dr. Hook, Ace who sang the song "How Long". Then New Wave bands came about after Punk, like Gary Numan who sang the song "Cars", the actual band The Cars, Blondie etc. Disco was a dated form of music when it was "in"
You kids are terrific! Wow! You ring in the mellow and sorta psychedelic 1960's with a mix of the new. I totally see the influence. Who did the arrangement? I LOVE this! Am sharing (and buying!)
Awesome awesome. I should be able to hear this song on the major stations not only college broadcasts. To me I hear som "Brother Louie" by Stories and some "Evil Woman " Elo
No they won't. This generation is out of touch with what it means to be essentially human. They know a shitload about alienation, and therefore Foxygen will not be huge. Trust me, a lot of shit will have to change in America and abroad if this will become 'popular'.

This is for sure their best and most impressive song from a production standpoint
The singing reminds me of mick jagger. It's nice to hear great music that is so different from the mainstream crap. I love it!!
Love riding my bicycle to this song , just put it on a loop and listen over and over
This sounds like a super-classy early 70s pop song. Love it!
Man this choreography was fantastic. Possibly the best I've ever seen

Bands like this are bringing that 70s groovy sound. Supertramp style.
I'm here from that Google ad -- tbh I didn't know it was a real thing, but I will be listening to more :)

What songwriting talent. They are synthesizing so many elements from the past.
OH MY GOD I SAM AND JONATHAN PLEASE GIVE US MORE OMG THIS IS AMAZING
Love me some awkward dancing in my music videos.
MasterJakeStudios the girl in the denim vest had me mesmerized with her awkwardness.

as a tennis player, 1:53 hurt me. this is the reason we got floppy nets to play with
can't wait! love the jam session at the end of this so rich

This music video is the equivalent of how I feel after drinking a glass of water
Weirdly accurate
When I listen this song, i feel this song was made in the 70's. I don't know why. I love it
His voice is so... just like every indie music singer's voice ever
I love their new song and especially the instrumental part *-* Sam's energy is unbelievable..and his moves with hips omg♥ :D
1970s vibe! I love this song!
This song has 70's

I feel the exact same way

Follow the leader
Just follow the leader and the leader is you, yeah
Follow the leader
Follow, follow the leader and the leader is you, yeah
Sha, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
this video makes me smile so much haha
My god, the pure soul of the 70s Rolling Stones is conserved :) A kind of "Beast of Burden"-thing. :)
20 seconds into the song, I was thinking of Some Girls/Emotional Rescue era Stones.
I love how on all their albums they have this Motown sound almost, no one else has a Motown influence
thats what thought haha
amazing as always foxygen
So they didn't tell the back up dancers the moves huh? dope
its called follow the leader for a reason lol
I prefer this off dance moves, compared to the Jennifer Lopez, Paula Abdul choreograph dance.
Reminds me of Todd Rundgren for some reason.
Just like last time around.
Nick Falletta without doubt
Nick Falletta same
Totally, and I really dig that about them. Snobs be damned.

My orher fav song from Foxygen!!! 😊🌳❤️
I'm really impressed with their new stuff.
So was this recorded in 1960 and just released now? ;-) Very "Flower Power".
Del Mac this sounds more like it fell out of 1977
more like 1973, because in 1977 it would had some kinda of disco in it.

Chris Johnson so happy to see this comment. First thing I thought was "Jeff Lynne would fucking devour this"
Yea kinda like Mick jagger vocals on the showdown track ha
Richard Fukuda bob Dylan how lol
Richard Fukuda I was gonna say ELO and The Rolling Stones
great music video!
