You're right, this is as tight as you can get and knowing this is a live performance with the highest quality that a studio version couldn't beat is just unbelievable. This is the best live performance of any band I've ever heard. Nothing comes close to this sound, talent, tightness, I could go on and on. LOVE IT!!!

I have to agree. I tried to get into their other stuff, but other than a few of their tracks (also performed at this show, like Way out of Here, Drown with Me, and the title track from this album), I just can't get into their lighter stuff. Which is apparently the majority of the Steven Wilson experience---this is apparently unusually heavy for his writing.

Stop trying to be like Genesis/Dream Theater and perhaps create your own stuff. There's prog rock, then there's Steven Wilson who tries to incorporate every chord progression and instrument into every song. Just annoying.

when you observe the song closely you realize that every single second of this song is well crafted, the filler part that starts from 5:11 till about 6:22 is soooo calming to me but then the metal part starts and it brings in some tension to the song, and in the chorus it releases all the tension and gives the song more energy, again the tension in the song strikes back, the same happens again and then that beautiful yet simple guitar solo fits in so well there.
that solo is soo beautiful to hear and it merges into a synth piece, it feels soo fricking dreamy. and after all our favorite part, the surfer one, john wesley's voice is so much soothing over there in the back. I've spent many days listening this song on loop for hours and still am not bored of it.
We can't call this a masterpiece because its more than that!!!!This is a seventeen minute single and feels like got over soooo early
My english isnt that good btw so ignore if ive made any errors

    [LYRICS]
    A good impression of myself
    Not much to conceal
    I'm saying nothing
But I'm saying nothing, with feel
    I simply am not here
    No way, I...
    Shut up, be happy
    Stop whining, please!
And because of who we are
    We react in mock surprise
The curse of "there must be more"
    So don't breathe here
    Don't leave your bags
    I simply am not here
    No way, I...
    Shut up, be happy
    Stop whining, please!
The dust in my soul makes me feel the weight in my legs
My head's in the clouds, and I'm zoning out
I'm watching TV but I find it hard to stay conscious
I'm totally bored but I can't switch off
Only apathy from the pills in me
It's all in me, all in you
Electricity from the pills in me
It's all in me, all in you
    Only MTV and cod philosophy
We're lost in the mall, shuffling through the stores like zombies
Well what is the point? What can money buy?
My hand's on a gun and I find the range, God tempts me
Well, what did you say? Think I'm passing out
Only apathy from the pills in me
It's all in me, all in you
Electricity from the pills in me
It's all in me, all in you

I was counting out the waves
And I followed their short life
As they broke on the shoreline
    I could see you
    But I couldn't hear you
You were holding your hat in the breeze
    Turning away from me
    In this moment
    You were stolen
    There's black across the Sun

holy crap , never fire the sound engineer who did his little magic on this recording ...
this might be the best sound i've ever heard in my 42 year of life , it sounds better then 99% of the entire sound library in the world ...
nice composition too , not as predictable as most songs ...
can't believe this is a life recording , great sound

Seconded! I didn’t think I’d ever see anything knock Pink Floyds Pulse off my No.1 spot in my lifetime. Stunned.

I recently stumbled onto Porcupine Tree and I love what I'm hearing so far. They have a unique sound I haven't experienced before. It's really amazing!

@@BartholomewHunt87 There's a whole back catalogue of albums to enjoy....the style has morphed during the years... but so much quality... Then you've got Steven Wilson's solo albums and side projects to explore...welcome to the rabbit hole :)

I grew up in the rust belt of the U.S. in the late 70' and early 80's and this song is a masterpiece of my experience at that time.

I must have been living in a cave....first time today that I listened to this group. I am a drummer...of sorts... and Gavin can play, as a Pink Floyd fan these guys have renewed my hopes of that style of long tacks with some great stoner qualities. Awesome

Check out Octavarium, Breaking all Illusions or The Odyssey (if you're already into heavier stuff). For me there was only Pink Floyd since the age of 12. Until a friend of mine introduced me to Dream Theater.

@@Sandkasten36 Thanks for reply, I am also big fan of Dream Theater. Been taking lessons on line from Gavin for about 6 months.
