Thanks for sharing another of your delicious recipes. I make a very similar gingerbread cake and use strong earl grey tea instead of plain water, only use 3/4 cup of sugar, and add more ginger. Your butterscotch sauce sounds yummy, as I usually have mine spread with butter.

If you're going to make any bake this winter make it this one. I tried another gingerbread recipe and it wasn't great but this... Takes like pure Christmas. Do yourself a favour and have it with a glass of cold milk. I used half cinnamon and half sweet cinnamon. *chef's kiss*

Honestly, molasses is key to get the gingerbread flavor. MK has so many other great recipes, I'd skip this one if you don't have or don't like the molasses. MK has so many great recipe, maybe try her pumpkin cake? I can't remember if she has a sticky toffee pudding recipe, but that is very similar to this and usually doesn't have molasses.
