The thing that surprises me about this girl, she doesn't seem to breathe yet she produces such notes and holds them. To suggest she "outperformed" Screamin' Jay Hawkins ( mostly copying here ) is ridiculous. Different singer ( a grown man ), different singing quality.
Actually she had just turned nine two months before recording. To further unhinge your mind you should realize that she arranged the music and lyrics. You should listen to the original by Jay Hawkins to understand the genius of this child. You mentioned she owns the band. There are videos of her with this group rehearsals of two songs where she is directing them as to what she wants. She completely changes the way the piano player is playing and is obviously in charge. At this time in her three year career is affectionately referred to as the boss. If you watch the very beginnings of this video you will see her writing changes to the instrumentation which she gives to the director and as he reads you see him smile. In a later interview he states that Angelina was very polite as she referred to the changes as her wishes. Can you imagine what these musicians were thinking when walking out the door. I believe they knew they had just been part of musical history. They will remember this there entire lives. Note that most of them are still around her. She has been called a musicians magnet.

I read somewhere that as a toddler and youngster, she spent a lot of time at grandmother's where she heard a lot of jazz, blues vocalist. She must have absorbed that music through her skin!
Told you so... But you have to see Angelina’s talent to believe it. And this one is a perfect example of her incredible range, even though she was nine here. Between then and now, Angelina has tackled and demolished many other styles. Unlike other singers, Angelina is able to modify her voice, tone, timbre, and style to adapt almost organically to whatever she’s singing. It’s like she has a vocal sweet spot-but that sweet spot includes jazz, blues, soul, and pop. As hard as it is to believe, you’ve only scratched the surface. Her “mature” voice (10 years old +) is deep, textured, warm and resonant. As with the three songs you’ve watched, Angelina begins-and you’re stunned. It’s not possible to say who is the best singer in the world because there are too many styles of music, too many personal preferences, and too many ways to judge talent. But I can say without any reservation that there is no one else, past or present, whom I would rather listen to. It’s not even close-and I’ve been actively listening to music since the 1950’s. I need to hear Angelina everyday, even though I’ve heard Gloomy Sunday, Bohemian Rhapsody, Stay, I Put a Spell on You, and Bang, Bang at least a hundred times each. And I’m sure I left out twenty other songs in that category. Enjoy the ride.
I agree that whose to say who is best. Your comment about whom you would rather listen to gives me a sense who would get your vote if it were a contest. I would vote right along with you. I am 75 years old and IMO Angelina will be joining the pantheon of the greatest vocalists of my lifetime : Holliday, Sinatra, Elvis, Fitzgerald, Houston, Freddy Mercury. She can do it all in any genre.
The amazing thing about this performance is that when you listen to it again (and again, etc.) once you get past the initial shockwave, there are layer upon layer or additional shocking aspects of her skill and musicality. One of my favourites as a drummer boy is her mastery of timing. Just starting with that terrifying little squeal or roar near the beginning... pay attention to when she hits it. She hits it on the 2nd eighth note in a 6/8 bar, the up beat. And if you watch the way she pushes through it with her left hand, she is totally feeling it rhythmically as she hits that terrifying syncopated declaration that your ass (and soul) are hers. Another great example is 5:06, "I don't care if you don't want me / I'm yours/ right now". 12 vocal syllables spread over 16 beats, not a single one of them on a down beat. And the same thing except totally, completely, different in the last line of the song. That last line sung in the spirit of Édith Piaf, just for fun and variety.
You're talking way over my head. You kinda pulled the curtain back exposing her technical mastery. I can't explain how this kid sings.... but reading your downbeat, vocally syllables and syncopated declarations stuff has me even more impressed with this 'kid'. THX.

She’s not 8 here, she’s a seasoned 9 year old , this was recorded a couple of months after her 9th birthday. lol be prepared, there are another 130 or so more covers and few of them stray very far from the amazing quality you have already seen, she is unlike any other young singer on the planet. Angelina is an old soul and it comes through her singing. To this day at 15 she still sings her own style and has a deep and wonderful voice.

I read somewhere that as a toddler and youngster, she spent a lot of time at grandmother's where she heard a lot of jazz, blues vocalist. She must have absorbed that music through her skin!

Told you so... But you have to see Angelina’s talent to believe it. And this one is a perfect example of her incredible range, even though she was nine here. Between then and now, Angelina has tackled and demolished many other styles. Unlike other singers, Angelina is able to modify her voice, tone, timbre, and style to adapt almost organically to whatever she’s singing. It’s like she has a vocal sweet spot-but that sweet spot includes jazz, blues, soul, and pop. As hard as it is to believe, you’ve only scratched the surface. Her “mature” voice (10 years old +) is deep, textured, warm and resonant. As with the three songs you’ve watched, Angelina begins-and you’re stunned.
It’s not possible to say who is the best singer in the world because there are too many styles of music, too many personal preferences, and too many ways to judge talent. But I can say without any reservation that there is no one else, past or present, whom I would rather listen to. It’s not even close-and I’ve been actively listening to music since the 1950’s. I need to hear Angelina everyday, even though I’ve heard Gloomy Sunday, Bohemian Rhapsody, Stay, I Put a Spell on You, and Bang, Bang at least a hundred times each. And I’m sure I left out twenty other songs in that category. Enjoy the ride.
I agree that whose to say who is best. Your comment about whom you would rather listen to gives me a sense who would get your vote if it were a contest. I would vote right along with you. I am 75 years old and IMO Angelina will be joining the pantheon of the greatest vocalists of my lifetime : Holliday, Sinatra, Elvis, Fitzgerald, Houston, Freddy Mercury. She can do it all in any genre.
The amazing thing about this performance is that when you listen to it again (and again, etc.) once you get past the initial shockwave, there are layer upon layer or additional shocking aspects of her skill and musicality. One of my favourites as a drummer boy is her mastery of timing. Just starting with that terrifying little squeal or roar near the beginning... pay attention to when she hits it. She hits it on the 2nd eighth note in a 6/8 bar, the up beat. And if you watch the way she pushes through it with her left hand, she is totally feeling it rhythmically as she hits that terrifying syncopated declaration that your ass (and soul) are hers. Another great example is 5:06, "I don't care if you don't want me / I'm yours/ right now". 12 vocal syllables spread over 16 beats, not a single one of them on a down beat. And the same thing except totally, completely, different in the last line of the song. That last line sung in the spirit of Édith Piaf, just for fun and variety.
You're talking way over my head. You kinda pulled the curtain back exposing her technical mastery. I can't explain how this kid sings.... but reading your downbeat, vocally syllables and syncopated declarations stuff has me even more impressed with this 'kid'. THX.

She’s not 8 here, she’s a seasoned 9 year old , this was recorded a couple of months after her 9th birthday. lol be prepared, there are another 130 or so more covers and few of them stray very far from the amazing quality you have already seen, she is unlike any other young singer on the planet. I believe it's not reincarnation. It's empathy. She is an empath at the highest level in addition to her naturally beautiful voice and musical talent.
I have come to feel that saying that she has to have been reincarnated or she's an "old soul" takes away from her sheer musical genius...

Angelina doesn't just sing a song, she rearranges them and seems to make the song not better so much as how it should be and knows exactly how it should be sung.

Mr. Foster, there is a video out there of Angelina at school and all the other children are singing typical childrens songs in a choir. Little Angelina looks at her Mom (behind the camera) shakes her head no with a frown on her face. It's so adorable.
Watch her at the very end. The look on her face like she was in another world and waking up…she blinks her eyes….weird, stunning. There are no words.
OH My Gosh, I love your freaking shocking but hilarious and heartwarming reaction. Indeed, Angelina is the music itself. She doesn't even have to sing every word make music! I'm just blessed to witness this singer in my life time, besides Dimash :-)).
Quite simply, she is a natural jazz singer of great depth. The whistle tone at the beginning and the fantastic note at the end proves that she is the best thing to come out of 2020 as far as jazz is concerned.

She has total control in that sound booth. She sings as soulful as if she has lived life times of love, loss,maturity and world weariness. Of all the great things she's done vocally, this, THIS is magical.
