Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the vocal arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and communicated to the band how she wanted it to be played - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with some of the same band members at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. 9 y old in this video, it's a tiny lil glimps of what she's been doing later on with her voice, its definitevely soul gripping now.
She's grown up now, recently turned 18. She signed some years ago with Republic Records (Taylor Swift, Areana Grande, The Weekend, Amy Whinehouse, ...) so she's swimming with the big fish. Released her debut Ep with them a year ago and an xmas EP last december.
Her shows in Vegas will be a blast, I'm sure.

Great first reaction. Welcome to the amazing world of Angelina Jordan.
This performance was recorded in around March 2015 when she was barely 9. Less than a year after she won Norwayâs Got Talent at age 8. The video, however wasnât released until about a year and a half later in September 2016.
She is primarily self taught. She attended a music school program but as far as we no she hasnât had any real formal vocal training or a voice coach.
She began studying the jazz greats on TH-cam videos by the time she was 3 after she was introduced to the music by her jazz fan grandmother.
She appeared on Americaâs Got Talent the Champions at age 13 and received the Golden Buzzer for her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody.
She just turned 18 last month and moved to LA when she was 12.
She has yet to be fully promoted which is why she is still relatively unknown.

The musicians lovingly called her 'the boss'. She was already a national treasure in Norway at this time.
*Why Angelina always performs barefoot*
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes donât fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, âI want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.â Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelinaâs dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norwayâs history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. She was only 9 years old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, an American singer/songwriter. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. As you continue your journey of discovering Angelina, you will come to realise that she does her own arrangements of most of the cover songs she sings. The differences may not be immediately discernible on first listening to them, but they are there. There may be a subtle change in tempo or tone, or more inflexion on some words, or a phrase may differ in pitch from the original. The amount of control that Angelina has over her voice cannot be measured. She never hurries a song. She sings in such a way that the emotions in the lyrics are felt by the listener. Angelina Jordan is a music prodigy she started singing at the age of 1.5 years and more than that she started with Billy Holiday Jazz. Angelina sings in 5 languages, designs her clothes, and has written a top-rated book called "Mellom to hjerter" (Between Two Hearts)"Norway's youngest published author" a story about why she wears no shoes during her performances, and like her name, she truly is an angel with a heart of gold. Angelina won Norway's Got Talent when her audition for Billy Hollowday's Gloomy Sunday went viral and she got world press she started the competition at 7 years old and won at 8 years old. In her younger years before age 13, she was watched over by her mother (Sara) and her Uncle, a manager, who just wanted her to grow up normal. Her mother and uncle Turned down almost 90% of all requests for her to perform. Still, even so from the age of 8 years to 12 years old or so, she has been all over the world (Her mother and or her Grandmother never more than a breath away) Angelina has produced millions for environmental causes and children's causes around the world. Angelina has produced over 160 covers and 6 originals and makes them her own, which will astound you. New people to Angelina get sucked down this"rabbit hole" not believing what they're hearing her excellent vocals and unique way of singing, Angelina is a master at music structure her ability to show absolute recognition to a cover while she makes it her own is just unbelievable. Angelina writes her music and produces them Shield, Million Miles, 7th Heaven, and What is Life. Angelina's mother is Norwegian, and her father is from Sweden. The " world-known artist'" grandmother (Mery Zamani) on her mother's side is from Iran, and her grandfather (recently deceased) is from Japan both grandparents are very involved with Angelina's growing up, and Angelina's song A Million Miles is about losing her grandfather and her original cut Shield is about the people that protected her and watched over her during her performances and travels. Although Angelina didn't win AGT Champions 2020 she was signed to Republic record label and is producing new music 7th Heaven, Million Miles, and Save the World she's on her way, after school, to a world market that I'm sure she'll dominate.

Following up on @@most2dot0 's comment: I think the initial source of confusion was probably that the video looks so much like the other videos of her early studio work (the ones that remain accessible having been posted in the summer of 2013) that the (re-)uploader of the video in question mistakenly "mentally dated it" as being from the same time period when he first saw it and captured a local copy of it. At that time, he might have thought that she was still 7, since that's how old she said she was in her audition, and the fact that she had turned 8 wasn't said on the show (AFAIK) until her live semifinal episode in April 2014. So, back then, perhaps a month earlier, he might have miscalculated her age in the earliest videos shot in that studio as being 6 rather than 7 (as they probably were), thus leading him to believe she was also 6 in the video that we're talking about here. (Hey, it's possibleâĶ right?)
And then the situation was not helped at all by a remark in the video itself by the sound engineer, saying (in Norwegian) that her performance was "very good considering it was the first time" (by which he surely meant it was her first attempt at recording _that particular song_ ). Everyone immediately picked up on that translation, and began interpreting as meaning it was her first time ever singing in that or any other recording studio.ð On the contrary, multiple lines of evidence (of varying quality) all seem to converge on the idea that it was actually one of the _last_ things she ever sang in that particular studio.

She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

She started studying all the greats of Jazz soon after under the guidance of her Iranian Grandmother Mery Zamani a child prodigy in her own right as an artist and poet. English is Angelina's 3rd language behind Norwegian and Farsi along with Japanese and some German and perhaps more. There are lot of really good child singers that appear on the talent shows but most try to sing as loud and high as they can to impress the judges. However Angelina has never been about that even as a child. Her style is all about details, nuances, storytelling, emotion, her amazing vibrato even as a little girl. She can belt but never to show off, only when itâs appropriate for the song.

Thereâs a video of Angelina in her crib holding a mic and singing at 1 1/2. When she was very young she and her grandma Mery would watch jazz TH-cam videos of Bllie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald and other jazz greats, at about that time she said she started training her voice 4-6 hours a day every day. She was enrolled in after school music program where she was taught how to read, deconstruct and rearrange music and to play several instruments, two of which she still plays, the piano and the guitar. She is nine here, so she has already been singing for 7 1/2 years. The only voice lessons she has ever had have been how not to damage her voice. This information came from Angelina herself in an interview long ago when she was asked where she learned how to sing.

She arranged and performed this at the ripe old age of 9 years and 2 months, but apparently it was not published until she was 10.
She is multinational but was raised and educated in Norway. Her Iranian maternal grandmother is her greatest influence and inspiration, the one that introduced Angelina to Jazz at a very young age. Her family is her "shield" (yes, she wrote a song about it) that was adamant she had a normal childhood and education, turning down organizations like Disney and others that wanted to get their claws into her talent. She just turned 18 and now lives in LA.
A tip: Always watch her earlier performances to the very end, because in many of them you can actually see her coming out of her music mode and quietly become a unassuming little girl again.

Since that day, Angelina has performed barefoot as a reminder of those less fortunate. At the age of nine, she even wrote a book about this experience titled "Between Two Hearts," becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway.

Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on TH-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz.
Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes donât fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, âI want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.â Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelinaâs dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate.
At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norwayâs history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. This just might be my favorite performance by anyone, at anytime. I'm a 74 year old musician and have heard a lot of singers. Angelina is a musical genius. I was hooked by What a Difference a Day Makes and have followed her since. She is also a wonderful, sweet, and humble soul.âĪâĪâĪâĪðððð

This cute little 9 year old is not your typical child singing 'Wheels on the Bus Go round and Round", this child is a prodigy/music genius since she won Norway Got talent at the age of 8 competing against adult acts, (auditioned at 7 years old). Her Grandma Mery, Iranian born poet/painter exposed her to all the great blues/jazz singers as a toddler, Billy Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, Louie Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, just to name a few and she has absorbed all of them into this tiny body. This is a 1956 original from Screamin Jay Hawkins, she studied his version and created this arrangement at yes, 9 years old. This is a superlative studio Jazz band backing this little girl, they affectionately refer to her as "The Boss", for good reason. You honestly have no idea of the Rabbit Hole you stepped into. You will get a lot of info from her Millions of fans (Angels as she refers to us). Great reaction and can only hope you will journey further into her catalog of over 200+ covers and originals. Sir, her mom discovered her singing Whitney Houston when Angelina was 18 MONTHS old. She discovered Jazz at age 2 and started practicing her craft around age 3. No Joke!!!

I respectfully recommend to follow the timeline for a while to aprecheate her development in music. YES her soul is much older than her body. Here she arranged the whole thing, including the musicians. The respect of this guys for this little girl is, because she already was a superstar in Scandinavia and Asia AANNDD she is the national treasure of Norway. No Joke here. I've been following AJ's career for many years now, but seldom do I encounter a first-time reviewer who immediately understands the depth of Angelina's abilities.
She started singing when she was 1-1/2 years old and, yes, there is a video
of that. Her grandmother liked jazz and played her records for Angie when she was very little. Before long, Angelina was using an iPad and listening to all the jazz greats, listening and learning their ways of presenting a song, and putting them away in her toolkit. With her perfect pitch, unusual voice, arrangement and performance skills, she is headed for the moon. So, you see that at nine years and two months old she is already a professional and accomplished artist. She chose this song as a tribute to the original singer, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, whose picture is shown in the beginning. The papers she handed to the band leader were her last-minute changes for him. This performance is not typical of Angelina but shows that she can perform in any genre, although she prefers jazz. She always performs barefoot and there is an interesting story behind that. She has been in the public eye since she auditioned for Norway's Got Talent in 2013, when she was 7, and won it at age 8. Now she is 18 and was signed to Republic Records as a highest priority new artist in 2020. Her recent releases of originals and covers are beyond superlative. Angie's musical abilities are beyond mere mortal understanding! Go to one of her two concerts in Las Vegas on February 29th. I would, but went to two in Norway in 2022, so will let the rest of her fans enjoy her artistic talents.
