  • This is the second of six videos covering my approach to earning a Big Boss rank in Metal Gear Solid 2. Part mechanics discussion and part commentary, this video series is an addendum to my MGS2 analysis that was featured on the Kojima Productions Report, "Driving Off the Map."
NOTE: These videos are a patchwork of ideal performances intended (probably) for instruction and demonstration. They came from a variety of play sessions and are not a straight playthrough for the Big Boss rank.
Please see final video, sub-heading "trust."
Here are links to the essay and interview referred to in these videos.

James no matter what you do you make things so much more interesting you could talk about a slice of bread for a hour and I would question my life and the universe itself :D

Pro-speedrun strats for Fortune on Extreme would make you tear your hair out that you went through that hell gauntlet.
(Short story: cardboard box makes you almost invincible if you keep moving.)

That is an excellent point about Kojima almost taunting the player, forcing him to be even more inside Raiden to dispose of the bombs.

Your discussion about your interpretation was very interesting. I really enjoyed your essay and undeniably Kojima has left lots of elements at work, including post modernism themes, reality questioning a la the matrix, and finally your interpretation of the game's statements about character/actor agency. I do understand how people might see your essay as being a bit objectively written, but in that case it's just a misunderstanding. There are many ways to look at the metal gear games.

Have you ever read Vortex of Silence by Doris Von Drathen? You would dig her work. She's an art critic but really she's so much more.

You talking about backtracking/becoming intimate with virtual space of the game reminded me of Resident evil 1/it's remake, lol.

Not if you hold a Dualshock 2 close to your heart (NOT a Dualshock original) and recite the pledge of allegiance backward so it sounds like pigeons weeping publicly for what you've done to this country. Didn't think I'd need to spell that out for you.
