It doesn't really matter if the individual buying the phone is gonna use it for 6 or 7 years. The longer update cycle will mean that even if you get rid of the phone after 3 or 4 years it has another 3 or 4 years of a Second Life if you sell it or gift it to somebody. It will make buying phones on the resale market way more compelling. Imagine getting a pixel 8 on the result market in 2 years when it probably costs under 200 bucks! But the key point is its being kept out of landfills. It might also keep resale value up a bit.

The longevity of the new update plans from android OEMs is only a good thing. Better resale price and maybe this means that all the years of Google saying it want a more uniform system for updates is coming to fruition.

Interesting to ask about gaming on Google TV given the recent murder of Stadia!
A more realistic use-case to drive better STB SoC is a USB-C hub and a camera for family video calls. Casual games tend to be single person so less usable on a big screen.
Personally, a RPi5 NAS + STB guarantees my media doesn't disappear like Stadia.
A Google TV streamer is still in the post to me to try...

Watching now on a side screen, great show so far. The audio is completely different this time, not only from the different room acoustics but I'm not hearing the regular crackle that's in your show. Huyen could use a pop filter

I guess it was only during the round table portion that the audio crackle was absent. Made it almost an hour before it came back

I have a S10+. I figure it's 5 years old. Now I'm having trouble keeping it plugged in. All day it reminds me that it has no connection as it sits there plugged in. I don't want to use a wireless charger. So I'm thinking 7 years is a dream that probably won't be realized.
