Thank-you soooo much. I was losing my mind with such a slow lagging phone and it’s a newer model. I even bought malaware app, reset to factory settings, etc. I went through all the options you provided and my phone is so much nicer to use. 🙏😊
Odd how you make a video about saving battery life and discharge rate, but you don't use 'Dark Mode' which essentially changes all the white pixels to black, reducing ALL the white light that pixels have to make just so you can use your phone, which can easily still be used in a dark mode - saving heaps of battery. Strange you didn't even mention this to people looking for ways to reduce battery power.
Thank you, guys, for your help. I'm 77 years old. and I feel so much better once I do everything you tell me and my phone always works great. Thanks again, guys.
9:08 that is not how „change with buttons“ works. There are two separate sound sliders. If no media is playing at the moment and you are on homescreen or the clock app, it will adjust the volume of the ringtone. However, if media is playing, it will change the volume of the media, independently from the volume of the ringtone. So leave this setting on, it is extremely convenient

5G SA actually saves battery because it doesn't need an additional 4G Carrier. So when using 5G leave it on. When using "LTE only" it doesn't matter at all.
Dumb question - I updated to iOS 18, but why don’t I have all of the options you have mentioned? My iPhone is older - it’s a 12 Pro Max & I’m waiting for my new 16 Pro Max to arrive from Apple.
This was a excellent informative video, many thanks for all the effort in researching and producing this iOS18 settings. Greetings from Sunny Coast Australia.

I just bought a new 16 plus. I’m on iOS 18.0.1. When I follow you some options do not exist on my phone. For instance: in cellular, there is no ‘cellular data options’ only a cellular data switch on/off. No 5G, LTE, etc. there are other examples. Wondering why.
The only bad thing about this video was that I had to watch it to the end to make sure I had my phone setup right because every tip here is very valid 😂. It took forever.
Or you can just charge to 100% and get on with your life. People are so neurotic when it comes to battery health, it's just ridiculous. Charging cycles are just one factor. People bring their phones everywhere -from very hot environments to extremely cold environments and somehow they don't understand that this will also degrade their batteries. I'd say use the phone as it should be used and replace the battery when it is time. No matter how well you treat it the battery won't last forever.
I saw another comment stating that the slider NOT appearing may have something to do with battery health. I think that may be correct. I have an iPhone 12 mini with 79% battery health, and I don’t have the slider either.
@@vincentneibert1333 I do recommend you to change your battery since iOS downperformance the system itself if its less than 85% of battery to keep the battery alive and you might notice it slower than when you bought it.
Dont worry at all. Just USE your batteries. Moder batteries can handle “bEiNg cHaRGeD tO 100%”. Also in your case you can start thinking about changing your battery
To be clear, the way the “Ringtone and Alerts > Change with Buttons” function actually works is that the buttons change whichever volume is currently most relevant; if you have a video playing or a game open, it’s the regular volume. If not, it’s the ringer volume. And you can see which volume you’re changing.
unless Siri’s volume somehow goes super saiyan with a volume of over 9000 that you can’t adjust no matter the method, even with the volume & ringers all the way off lol
9:05 if you are in an app and change the volume it doesn't affect the ringer/alarm volume. and its very clear on what volume you are changing when you press the buttons.

@@loverule9320it’s definitely an incremental thing, but its effects compound over time. Essentially, the maximum charge your phone’s battery can hold will drop. However, your phone will calibrate and display 100% at whatever “full” charge is. For example: my iPhone 14 Pro has a 3200 mAh battery, but the battery health page in settings shows that its maximum capacity is at 86%. That means that when my phone shows 100% battery, it is actually at 100% of the reduced capacity, which is 3200 mAh * 86%, or 2752 mAh. Every lithium ion battery degrades like this, but keeping it at a fully charged or fully depleted state for extended periods accelerates the process.
@@loverule9320my phone constantly won’t charge past 80%. It does sometimes but tbh the majority of times it’ll charge to 80% then act like that’s as far as it wants to go.
What if you have an iPhone 12 Pro with 89% bat life would you recommend turning optimized battery off or leave it on? My phone rarely stops at 80% with that turned on anyways it usually just charges to 100% but at times it does stop at 80%. Thank You
@@lao-ce8982 New out of store; I never let it down below 15% I have setup the automation which shouts whenever my battery is below or above a certain threshold.
I don’t think you’re right about the ‘change ringtone and alert volume with buttons’ setting. It only changes with buttons when media isn’t playing, so when you reduce volume when watching a TH-cam video, your alarm volume will not change. Hope this helps :)
Very true! The reason I ended up changing it is because when something is playing and I press it too soon it adjust the ring tone volume, THEN when I try to change it back the volume only effects the media playing. It was super annoying to me and more beneficial to set it and forget it since I use the silent button frequently.
Exactly this. You can only adjust your ringtone/alarm volume if you have NO OTHER MEDIA playing. The phone even confirms this for you. When you adjust volume while playing a game/watching a video/listening to music, it'll show a volume slider on the left side of the screen next to the volume buttons. When you adjust the volume of the ringer/alarm, it'll appear at the TOP of the screen and show "ringer."
I can not get my ringtone to be silent at all after updating to 18. Even in Do not disturb focus mode, it rings. I can get it really low but not silent and if I do that the alarm is also really low
I never comment, but after turning off these settings, my battery is lasting so much longer! (my battery was running out at around 7 pm and yesterday it lasted well beyond 11 pm, with much more usage). I came to find many things were running constantly on the background. Thank you guys!
You will have to go back in settings and turn it back on, I always leave it on, you still need faceid to access the hidden album so you are safe and secure, no need to also have it hidden from the list in photos.
I've been an Apple user for the looongest time, and this video opened my eyes to all the settings that were automatically enabled and causing frustration without me even realizing it. After watching your tutorial, I feel more confident, secure, and in control. Thank you!
So, I'm confused. 3:35 or so in the video, you have us switch to LTE... but then you go back and turn 5G Auto on, in order to turn off 5G Standalone, and then leave it on 5G Auto. Is that what you're doing? I don't know if we're supposed to leave it on LTE or 5G Auto, per your video.
If 4G is fast enough for you (it is for most people) I recommend to turn 5G off completely, I always do that, really have no need for 5G since 4G is fast enough. Plus 5G is using a lot more battery so not so good. Leave it on 4G only and you will be happy with that.
My Verizon store guy told me how to turn off 5G for the LTE bc I didn’t get 5G to my old house. When I moved I have a cell tower right behind me so thought 5G was faster. Didn’t realize til now that it uses battery faster. Thanks!!

And just going into my little “tech meditation” when I get a new iPhone it’s wild how many things I’ve done well or knew to do or turn off that you guys do. Tho there was one I didn’t catch. So I never expect to know everything that’s for sure. I just wish I had better confidence sometimes becuase that’s insanely helpful and I’d not tell ppl becuase so many years people put me down about it or never saw value in what I say or a reason to do it. Now is beyond appreciated and I have almost like an aversion to telling ppl really helpful things.
The only channel I go to after I update lol
…the only comment I go to when I wanna 2nd that.
You shouldn’t there’s nothing going on here just stopping your phone to work as your phone should ….this sounds good but if you don’t know none of this stuff leaves your phone ……on device your safe ….none of this stuff will make your phone runs faster or save you battery life this is not Android
As far as the usual stuff he usually talks about I mean
Same lol
Same here.
Camera settings video please! Your advice is always helpful, thanks.
Do Apple re-arrange the settings menu so you don't know how to turn things off?
5G Standalone does not prevent the phone from using LTE. It is an upgrade available on some carrier’s 5G networks. Better to leave it how you find it.
I turned off clean energy and optimized charging and my iphone 13 pro max has been sitting at Maximum capacity 90% for about 6 months.
10% battery loss in 6 months is horrible.
@@thegameof_life5519 iPhone was bought sept 2021 so 10% in almost 3 years.
my 14PM is 2 years old now and Im still at 97% capacity 💪
@@junkiexl86do you update you software?
David, you're the bomb. Your upbeat, comic demeanor is priceless. Thanks as always to Payette Forward.
5G SA actually saves battery because it doesn't need an additional 4G Carrier. So when using 5G leave it on. When using "LTE only" it doesn't matter at all.
Yeah, his 5G SA explanation makes no sense. Leave it on unless it's causing problems.
So helpful! Would love a separate video on iOS 18 camera settings.
Is it worth updating to IOS 18 or do I wait til they fix some bugs?
Not updating to 18 until 18..1 comes out , usually glitches with these upsides,
if you don’t have the slider just put it on 80% it’s not a big deal
Dumb question - I updated to iOS 18, but why don’t I have all of the options you have mentioned? My iPhone is older - it’s a 12 Pro Max & I’m waiting for my new 16 Pro Max to arrive from Apple.
You’re screwed
I just got an iPhone again after 15 years. This video was quite helpful. I did hit the subscribe button. Thank you!
📱 THANK YOU so much for the list of instructions. You are my go-to channel when I updated the iOS on my phone. 📱
Absolutely would be lost without your channel. Thank you so very much. 🙏❣️
This was a excellent informative video, many thanks for all the effort in researching and producing this iOS18 settings. Greetings from Sunny Coast Australia.
This battery charging is available only from iphone 15? I dont have it on 14 pro
15pro only
15 plus here and is available for me.
iPhone 13/iOS 18 here and I don't have it, dam it.....
I wonder if it depends on 18.1 because 18.0 doesn't have intelligence.
I got a normal 15 and it works
The only Chanel I trust when it comes to arrange any things in my settings to save battery life 😂❤
Just a video guide on iOS 18 but you are so entertaining and just a stand up guy. You got a new sub my guy keep it up ❤
This was excellent! Thank you very much, and I am going to share this with my mom. You made it very easy to follow, and I really appreciate that! It was exactly what I was looking for! You have definitely got me as a new subscriber, and I'm about to go binge some of your past videos. Have a great day!
Excellent video as always, would love to see similar video on ipad ios 18....
Does anyone know how to get rid of those pesky 5 min phone limit warnings? I don't even remember setting a limit. These videos are life savers! David if you read this, I would love a video on Focus and Screen time. It isn't working for me, and it's totally debunked my old Do Not Disturb settings.
I’ve been on iOS 18 for what feels like about 6 months now. Same iOS but with some android features
You need some glasses boy! There is a noticeable difference between IOS 18 and previous version's.
@@CiroDiMaRzio12304 Only if you dig deep enough
The bit about the alarm clock was very helpful didn’t realise 😺👍🙏
so which one is better? battery charge to 80% or 90%?
Yes, please make a video covering all the camera settings in iOS 18. Thank you!
8:54 this is so helpful and it makes me so mad… why tf would i want a silent alarm at 6:30 in the morning?!! 🤬 i need to wake up!
True
I just bought a new 16 plus. I’m on iOS 18.0.1. When I follow you some options do not exist on my phone. For instance: in cellular, there is no ‘cellular data options’ only a cellular data switch on/off. No 5G, LTE, etc. there are other examples. Wondering why.
Just guessing it's because the video is about 18.1... by now you've probably updated to 18.1, right?
Yup, figured that out later. Thanks.
The only bad thing about this video was that I had to watch it to the end to make sure I had my phone setup right because every tip here is very valid 😂. It took forever.
So, buy the IPhone 16 Pro Max because it has a bigger battery that you can charge to only 90% and still get a decent amount of usage? 🤔😉
@@dm8579i use my 11 pro max till now almost 5 years, my batt health 85%, what im doing everyday, charge it until full 100%…
Thank you I needed this video never stop doing videos of settings to turn off on new ios updates
I saw another comment stating that the slider NOT appearing may have something to do with battery health. I think that may be correct. I have an iPhone 12 mini with 79% battery health, and I don’t have the slider either.
Correction: I have 79% battery maximum capacity.
My friend has iphone 14 promax 88% battery and no slider bar.
You wont even need that slider any more cuz your battery is already worn out
You are wonderful! Thanks for these tips.
Thank you so much ! Nice to see you back
Back after 2 months.
9:05 if you are in an app and change the volume it doesn't affect the ringer/alarm volume. and its very clear on what volume you are changing when you press the buttons.
0:38 the way instantly unplugged my charger😂
iphone 12 pro doesn't have this option this is limited to the newer iphones fyi.
As an android phone (with GrapheneOS), but ipad tablet user, this will probably come in handy as I move to iPad OS 18. Thank you.
It baffles me that all these telemetry things are buried so far, and all the things are switched around so much. "Why give people agency over the stuff their phone does, it should JUST WORK (the way we want it to)." ~Apple, probably
My battery doesn’t have a slider option.
Mine either
Dont worry at all. Just USE your batteries. Moder batteries can handle “bEiNg cHaRGeD tO 100%”
Only on iPhone 15/16
@@killac45we have 2 iPads and 2 iPhone SE. had them 4-5 years and they’ve been on charge that whole time when we weren’t going somewhere. The batteries are just fine.
Did you update to ios 18?
15 plus here, the battery slider works for me.
Should I download ios18 for my iPhone 14 Pro Max? Will it change anything for me. I can’t use Apple ai, so should I upload it.
9:46 Looks like “Always on Display” is not on iPhone 12 Pro iOS 18 because I don’t see it.
Always on display didn’t exist on iOS til the iPhone 14 Pro
It's only on 14 pro and up. But you dont really want this thing turned on, most people dont need it and it drains your battery. I know he said it doesnt use much but fact is it uses enough for you to notice so just keep it turned off.
Please make a video like this but for MacOS Sequoia!
Great info, and I like how you explained the walkthrough. Very easy to follow along without constantly hitting the pause button.
0:53 that setting was there before? At least for an 80% cutoff
I have never had a problem with my battery charging it at 100%. I just don’t think this is true.
You saved all that battery life JUST to use always on. 😂
Yeah was surprised with that as well
What if you have an iPhone 12 Pro with 89% bat life would you recommend turning optimized battery off or leave it on? My phone rarely stops at 80% with that turned on anyways it usually just charges to 100% but at times it does stop at 80%.
Thank You
I joined the channel and paid for the membership, even downloaded Discord. Please tell me how to your pdf’s. Thank you!!
Hey! What's your discord user? I'll be sure to give you access ASAP!
I charge my phone only upto 91% but still in one year my maximum capacity fell down to 89%
Try not to go under 20% either. Did you buy the phone second hand? Or new out of the store?
@@lao-ce8982 New out of store; I never let it down below 15% I have setup the automation which shouts whenever my battery is below or above a certain threshold.
Super useful! Thank you! This allowed me to get into the guts of my new iPhone without fear of destroying everything!!
Some of these are necessary, others are your preferences or OCD and probably not even worth mentioning, like lock sound…
I don’t think you’re right about the ‘change ringtone and alert volume with buttons’ setting. It only changes with buttons when media isn’t playing, so when you reduce volume when watching a TH-cam video, your alarm volume will not change. Hope this helps :)
Exactly, had the same thought
He’s not right about the system services as well
THE LEGEND IS BACK🎉🎉🎉
17:02 so if you turn this hidden album switch off, how do I access that album?
How
Go back n turn it on
You will have to go back in settings and turn it back on, I always leave it on, you still need faceid to access the hidden album so you are safe and secure, no need to also have it hidden from the list in photos.
I noticed that also.
Thanks!!
