I totally agree. These guys tear shit up live. The lead singer and the bassist work so well together. I really wish these guys went further than they did
That bassist is just so fantastic. Not only does he write awesome bass riffs and such (Though i am aware this in particular is a cover) but he can play, sing, dance and use his eyebrows all at once. That's brilliant.
Their mistake was getting popular with a one hit wonder which was a cover so nobody cared to check out their album lol. That's what happened, the only other song they were known for was movies.
This comment is old. This video is old. I only ended up on this video because of a forum thread. They sound tight here because they're playing to backing tracks.
I am amazed at the quality of their vocals live. Wow. And check out how well they're playing despite all their dance moves. Fall Out Boy have so much to learn from these guys lol...
my buddies are opening for them and the Toadies in Dallas next month. I haven't seen them since they toured with 311 in '97-98. It's gonna be a blast from the past, fo sho.
Ahhh 2001.. such fond memories of the country coming together and uniting over the idea of nuking the Middle East : ) how times have changed... Now everyone blows their stack At the idea of Arabs having to wait a few weeks to get their visa properly checked before they enter the country.. Do we need another 9/10 to wake up you dumb fucks..
For anyone wondering why AAF is so Star-Spangled-out in this performance, this was 6 weeks after the September 11 attacks. Side note: This song was also on Clear Channel Communications' (now iHeartMedia) memo of songs that stations were discouraged against playing in the wake of 9/11.
More like early-mid 2000's.. They got popular when metal started gaining new traction again.. People forget from like 1992 the rest of the decade metal was almost a dead genre and metal guitars were seen as so uncool.. Pantera for the most part was all of popular metal in the mid to late 1990's...
AquaCentauri I think at that time of pantera a lot brands like jackson, charvele, dean, and esp were getting bigger and ibanez too. A lot of fender and gibsons weren't really big used like they once were.
@@mediumvibesonly7974 Oh man I made this comment like a decade ago, lol. My guess would be that AAF borrowed some of 311's gear for this performance. I believe AAF opened for 311 during this era? But I am not sure. This is just a guess. But it would make sense.
Damn good cover. These guys have been way too underrated for the past 2 decades. Probably one of the more lively acts Leno ever had booked on his show, normally most of the alternative and nu-metal groups would end up on Letterman instead. Great performance. Thanks for posting!
I've scrolled through all these comments to see if anyone else noticed the 311 cab's. I've seen AAF play with 311 a couple times throughout the years so he must of borrowed them for that performance.
This was a hell of a live performance. I've only seen a handful of bands go out there and do exactly what you hear on played live and Alien Ant Farm is one of them.
I keep coming back to this video because that drummer gives me energy even through the internets. That audience must've been blown away and L.A. probably (probably) experienced a power spike for 3 days. Just. Fucking. Awesome.
This is a performance where all four members are the headliner.
Max Poole they can play
Very Rare
fact
I've smacked folk over this band
What an underrated band... especially the drummer. What a beast.
how about that bass player? he makes the band really.
@@corrado he looks just like a young rob riggle. even the energy is similar.
Saw them live a few times back in the good ol days they fucking RIPPED sooo hard live
@@aap71 him or Kevin Nealon
All of them are talented. Tight performance
I wanna know how the bassist sings and plays bass whilst his eyebrows perform interpretive dance.
Best comment :)
Russell Hampson roflmao
Ahhh.."whilst"...outstanding
He used to be a drummer . . .
Ask jonah hill LMAO
Holy crap what a performance! Rare that a band is better live than studio, these guys were for certain!
That Bassist is my hero.
Tony Ortiz he pays a six string bass. Pretty bad ass
Mine too
@@Amazin-ji8sn He indeed paid for it. But he didn't play all six strings. He used only 1 or 2.
DarkDutchman really?
@@TheDarkDutchman he uses all of the strings in some songs
The bassist is my hero. The playing , singing, and his almost a honky tonk dancing. Great performance.
Underrated singer who can really perform well live
I agree, that guy and the bassist are really good
are u shpongled 6
I totally agree. These guys tear shit up live. The lead singer and the bassist work so well together. I really wish these guys went further than they did
they released a new album in 2015
BLoB that was without the bassist Tye Zamora. It never works out well when members leave
Still in my top 5 live performances. This is 100% perfect. Vocals, presentation, hype, eyebrows.
Amazing bassplayer and drummer. Extremely solid live band.
@Chris Slint its a punk band m8
For the first time in my life I decided to look up a love performance of this song, They are such good live performers. Very talented.
Me right now lol
That bassist is just so fantastic.
Not only does he write awesome bass riffs and such (Though i am aware this in particular is a cover) but he can play, sing, dance and use his eyebrows all at once.
That's brilliant.
So true. Love it
He's also so good of a sound technician as well, that he left the band to be a highly paid sound man for other bands.
He also built his basses from scratch
Each member has the presence of a frontman it’s crazy
this drummer is the master of fills
Yes.
And while wearing a sweater! It's amazing he's not drenched in sweat!
amen.
nice ride work as well
He was voted 1 drummer back then.
Should have been way bigger then they ever were. Solid musicians
Matt Dimes
Really?!
I’ve only ever heard this song and they didn’t even write it

I was not expecting him to sing this well live..
They killed it. They had 2 bangers and this was one.
A solid performance. The drummer is insane, some smooth fills he got.
Not often you hear a live performance that hard, that fast etc... without the singer losing breath and getting puffed. What a legend
Mike Cosgrove - one of the great drummers of his era. Sadly underrated.
I hear a lot of Stewart Copeland influence in Cosgrove sometimes. Dude should have become a session guy or something, he had the chops.
danlc95 Who underrated him??
Hes not underated,hes a beast
@jumpinjojo - Hey look, a smartass. Cool.
In my opinion one of the best covers of all time.
Right up there with their version of Everything She Wants
they really don't sound any different performing live. gold star for you, Alien Ant Farm
This comment is old. This video is old. I only ended up on this video because of a forum thread. They sound tight here because they're playing to backing tracks.
@@lolroflstomp Is he lip syncing as well?
No way that's lip syncing and it does not sound the same as the recording, it's a raw live performance and a good one at that
All pre-recorded
Its live you people are imbeciles
This still one of the most underrated covers of all time
The bassist gives me life
I watch this once a month, it pleases me and gives this form sustenance....
right hes a fucking goofball but in a good way
@skylar - it's called being a showman. If you don't go all out in a performance, you don't deserve to be in the entertainment industry.
What happened to the bass player? HeS not in the band anymore, i think they arent the dame without him...
check out Les Claypool (Primus). You will die from excitement.
THE DRUMMER THOUGH 💥🔥
This band is way too underrated
They shot themselves in the foot releasing this as a single.
Jordan Craven By who?? Never heard a bad word from the media.
joseph migliore Underrated doesn’t necessarily mean people criticize them, just they’re not as popular as they should be
they only have two good songs lol... Not really underrated.
Nope
This whole era of music was so weird and good. The dances! The costumes! Face masks! Impromptu vocals! Whatta time to be alive.
That bassist is fucking nailing it!!
This is such an underrated band. Great group of musicians and energy. Would 100% see live.
The Bassist in this band is my hero! Guy is a fucking legend!
+Hmantooth Yea, he is great! He also looks like he's having more fun than everyone. Real nice background vocals too.
Nice 311 shoutout on the guitar speaker cabs “I’ll Be Here A While”
THIS DRUMMER RULES
I think they all rule, except the lead singers dancing =P
thnafa Lol.
The drummer is insanely tight
his tempo is excelent!!
you haven't seen Sugarfoot, have you?
Was never a fan of this band but this is gold.the bassist is hilarious with great vocal harmonies.
I can't keep myself still whenever I watch this. Such a fun band. The bassist is a beast!

The drummer definitely went all in on this one.
the bassist is awesome

Alien Ant Farm in its best and original incarnation. Always was an underrated band.

what Is that
They couldn't afford dancer girls so he has to do the dancing.

This band doesnt have a weak link! Especially the rhythm section, love these guys!
something tells me that this was on 4th july
+Melchi Zedeq I think was after Sept 11th. Jay was off the air for, like a month.
Awkward if it was. Singing "you've been hit by, you've been struck by, a smooth criminal" after 9/11 doesn't seem like such a tasteful choice haha.

They're so tight live!
I like how the bassist plays whilst performing interpretive dance with his eyebrows. How he does it, I don't know...
At the end of the song, the drummer makes a reference of The Grudge by Tool, Nice one!
Kryptor360 Good catch. He is a Danny Carry fan as well it would seem!

The way the singer moves and the body paint? Don't tell me that wasn't influenced by Maynard.
