- Tangerine Dream visited us here in San Diego on September 18, 2023! This was their opener, a modern rendition of Phaedra...
Not only were the acoustics supreme and extremely immersive, the lighting effects became so intense, one could feel the music at The Magnolia in El Cajon! It was GREAT!
What is interesting is that I was there, I heard it, I saw it, yet I get something new each time I review this video. One does not necessarily see the full picture the first time through apparently!
I remember seeing fhem during the Melrose tour. The bass vibrations were deep!
I saw TD again in Leuven the 19.5 at The Depot. It was again amazing. Huuuge TD fan for more than 40 years now

I get why people can be disappointed. The latest technology can be impressive, but there’s a reason they brought back modular analog synths: they sound great. Jean Michelle Jarre would never use anything but analog instruments because of the richness of the sound. I continue to listen to music created along the lines of original Tangerine Dream (as well as dabbling in creating my own) but I like the ambient music created by new, more powerful synths as well. The greater the computing power, the richer the sound. Eventually, all that will limit it is the imagination.
Great analysis and analogy! Analog was almost overwhelming to accomplish back in the 70's, but produced such a great sound! And today we have a modern sound created via synthesized instruments. Love them both!
I’m seeing them London 8th November 2023. I was introduced to Phaedra and Rubycon in 1975 when I was 14 years old. Still amongst my favorites.
I am also seeing them on the 8th, been a fan since 1975, and still love these music, big part of my life, enjoy your evening.
I really feel compelled to share my experience at TD London Palladium 2023. To be perfectly honest pretentious was my first impression. You can probably tell wasn’t impressed at all.
The violinist seemed a bit unnecessary. Didn’t do much and could barely be heard her when she did play. At times I felt like I was in the techno room at a rave. Maybe I’m just showing my age. I’m “old school” Tangerine Dream.
The guest who joined in for the encore to play what looked like a Chapman Stick using some cutlery left me baffled.
I left before the end and avoided the rush for the door and I wasn’t alone. Clearly disappointed.

I stopped going to see them live a few years before Edgar died.
I totally agree with you I’ve been a tangerine dream fan since 1974. This is basically a tribute that has nothing new to offer. If like me, you prefer the original analog, sounds, you should check out some of the many other original artists out there such as Brendan Pollard, free system project, Syn, Radiollari, radio, massacre, International, javi Canovas. The list goes on and definitely more interesting than listening to this poor rehash of classic Berlin school.

It puzzles me why some people think they're a tribute band when Thorsten Quaesching has lasted longer than any other band member after Edgar and yet he's a newcomer? I think not.
This band is still TD and they have gone through many changes. A lot of fans disliked the time they had the saxophone but they didn't rip the band apart like some do now and it was Edgar's wish they carry on in his band name so that should be respected or you're no longer a true fan!

This is merely a newer and fresher view of Phaedra. Nothing can ever replace or exceed the original!
Justo ese es el punto: nada puede reemplazar el original. Y esta ejecución es tan solo un "fragmento" del original porque el resto de la composición es inimitable (y lo mismo hay que decir de eso que llaman "Ricochet").
