Tangerine Dream Finale

  • Tangerine Dream made a visit to San Diego! The tour included a lineup of Thorsten Quaeschning, Hoshiko Yamane and Paul Frick. How impressive their sound continues to be. A group that was founded in the late 60's and continues to produce such amazing synthesized music! I may be wrong, but I believe this may have been their first visit to San Diego! They have definitely performed for southern California in Los Angeles, but not San Diego! I hope for their return, for they are the premier sound for new age synthesized music! Who has ever seen a single finale that was 55 minutes in length? Amazing...
This particular encore finale in San Diego included the lineup of Thorsten, Hoshiko, Paul, and special guest Steve Roach. More information on Steve can be found at steveroach.com...
Except there is a but here! But, to truly enjoy this, one has to see and hear their compositions in a theater with supporting acoustics! That was the case for us at the El Cajon Magnolia theater! GREAT acoustics! But, a recording does not truly do the justice which it truly deserves...

Not quite that long - but had a coworker turn me on to Tangerine Dream back around 1984. I was stationed in Japan which was great as the record shops had quite a number of their albums on CD.

Tangerine Dream forever, please come to Australia again. Loved their music for 45 years and still haven't seen them live. Missed the concert in Melbourne in 2014, which I think was Edgar's last before he passed in 2015. Love them.❤❤❤❤❤

I agree, you cannot fully appreciate TD's music until you have heard them live in an acoustically grand venue. I was lucky enough to see them when they returned last year to Coventry Cathedral here in the UK, the very first venue I saw them at in 1975. Absolutely stunning.

I know there is a lot of controversy about some bands continuing on without the original members, I think tangerine dream has the potential to last for ages it's more like an orchestra in some ways than a regular band. I've been listening since sometime in the '70s and they just keep getting better I hope they continue for much much longer

Like Kraftwerk only Ralf is the only one left from the original lineup. I'm kind of in that group who likes the original people. I don't think they are the same with different people. They should retire the name and form their own group in my opinion.

    • @AldousHuxleysCat
      @AldousHuxleysCat 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@mr.aerial1885 I agree with you however I have to give some leeway to what the members of the band yes have said in the past about the band being more like an orchestra in the future than a band and then it probably could continue. At some point they should at least have to put something else in the name of the band to indicate a difference

I've been a fan of TD for over 50 years. RIP Edgar, he was the flesh and blood of TD. That being said, this new incarnation of the group is very satisfying. I sometimes wish his son Jerome, was still with group, to take on the mantel. I don't know why he didn't stay long. One can only wonder, best life to him. He did add that great guitar flavor his father made so famous with the TD sound. Anyway, my analog synthesis has been mostly influenced by TD. and you want to really get a taste for this new group, I suggest getting all of the sessions discs. They really capture a lot of the sicopated sequences and arpeggios the original band was famous for. Glad this group is touring, look forward to seeing the them in my city of Cleveland. Sorry to be so long but I never commented on TD before. One disc that doesn't get much attention is the movie soundtrack of the Sorcerer. It is from the era of Stratosphere, Ricochet, Thief, and Force majure. The sequences are hypnotic and this era of albums is great for the monotony of a long road trip.

Given that the band has survived fifty years and is now in reality a completely new set of musicians, it raises the real possibility of another fifty years of performing and creativity. This is how theatre companies and dance companies transcend their founders to continue to produce new art. I like the idea of listeners, thirty years from now, getting into a band that is eighty years old, but turned on by their current music, then discovering the legacy and history they were founded upon. TG could well make it to a century and perhaps beyond. Just realised this is with Steve Roach as well, an obvious collaborator given his own work inspired initially by the original TG. Now that is a performance I would have loved to be at.

They performed in 1988 in downtown San Diego at the California Theater. It was the Optical Race tour. Edgar Froese, Paul Haslinger, and Ralph Wadephul. I met all three with autographs. Plus my friend and I sneaked behind stage and watched sound check. Then kicked out! That was a huge experience for me. Even bootlegged it 🤣 So yes Tangerine Dream was in San Diego. BTW I was at the same concert the day before this one in Tucson Az. Here in Tucson Az. is where they never performed. RIP Edgar🙏

Billy Currie of Ultravox should have been in Tangerine Dream. Loved Tangerine Dream ever since the movie score 'Firestarter '.❤

Gli unici e veri Tangerine Dream erano il trio Frank Froese Baumann.Questi qui sono bravi musicisti ma non c'entrano nulla col mitico trio dei primi anni '70....senza se ne ma...

The only time i got the privalige to watch & listen to them was WAY, WAY back when EDGAR FREOSE , CHRIS FRANK & YOANNE SMOELLING were together ( excuse me if i spelt any of their names incorrectly) I bet that has to be early 80's but, my memory is nom way as good as it should or coukd be anymore so i can't be pacific about the year just the venue i can only remember. & my girlfriend HATED THEM!!! All i said you really have no idea what your missing & still doesn't like them now nearly 45 years later me well you can guess 😉👍

It could be a cool thing in the "ambient" genre if the band didn't have the name Tangerine Dream. Honestly, I don't see the connection either in form or in spirit.
The "Berlin school" style is a state of mind and I just had the impression of seeing a few people having fun showing off all their beautiful toys. Technically, no problem, they know how to use it but the inspiration has gone by the wayside.
Having known and seen THE Tangerine Dream from the 70s, the ersatz is hard to hear.

Just saw them last Friday and you are right they are not the TD we all knew and loved I wouldn't go see them again and I ve been to 5 other concerts
Whatever they were playing didn't sound much like the old TD it seemed more techno beat to me,for the first time I couldn't wait until it was over

All groups evolve over time, especially after 5 decades! In my opinion, Thorsten, as the successor, is evolving the path of the group in a magnificent way. Yes, it is true that the originator (Edgar Froese) that began this path will always be regarded as the best!

@@jamesminick5409 I've been a TD fan from 1986 to 2013 and I don't care for what they are doing now I went to the show and was very disappointed in the latest music
I saw Thorsten in 08 and 12 and thought he was competent he still is but the music they are playing today just isn't the type I care about they only played a few old tracks and they were hardly recognizable nothing will compare with Edgar and the live version of Cloudburst Flight I have many wonderful memories of those live shows I have none for this one so I sadly have to say goodbye to TD and will continue to enjoy the real Tangerine Dream

Ja Klangteppich hin und her. OK. Aber ich als Gitarrist hätte da hin und wieder einen rein gehauen. Außerdem spielen sie nicht in 432 Hz und das kann n Synthiz einfach umstellen lassen...
