    I haven’t seen a ZX-11 on the road in maybe 10 years. Here in the US if it’s not the latest it’s junk. I love the ZX-11,great bike.👍🏻

      The ZZR is still overfilled, but there's a few more serious things going on in there after the dyno runs.... 🤣

      @@QuickBikes Yikes. Sorry to hear.
      Im planning a full OEM restore on mine. Parts are tricky to come by in South Africa, but yea i try. Sad thing is with only 42000km on the clock ill need to do the head soon, cylinder 2 intake valve 1 is already on 2.90mm shim (max 3.0mm) and 2 valve lobes are pitted. Dropping valves aint fun.
      Otherwise the bike goes like a bomb for now.
      Also thanks for the video on the fuel pump relay, that thing had me properly scratching my head.

    Bummer!!!, ZZR1100, would need to be very very healthy, to fully Enjoy it. I had no bike Kawasaki for 27 years, March 19 got a 05 very very healthy Bandit GSF 650inj.?, Enjoyed it a lot more than my nearly new Kawa.750 turbo '84, Couriered on it, Thrashed it Daily Countless times, Lovely but Bandit Time Times,? So so Special.

    Basics, there are three things required for combustion, compression, spark and fuel. It would do no harm to run a compression check now the rings etc. have bedded in. An inductive timing light is a good way to check for ignition faults. Before hauling the carbs off it's worth checking the seals by spraying brake clean (or similar) around the inlet to seek out any possible air leaks, especially as Jamie thinks the affected cylinder is running lean.

    My experience is from the D-models, but they should be similar enough. Two notes:
    The cylinders are numbered left-to-right, so cylinder 1 is the leftmost one.
    They need the restriction of the air-filters, or they'll run lean as heck.

    • @QuickBikes
      @QuickBikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, I've been corrected on that one regarding rhe numbering. It doesn't really matter in this instance though as it's a wasted spark set up. Good point about the air filter as well, thank you matey 👍

    The fuel filter should have caught anything rusty from the tank. Highly unlikely rust got as far as the carb. I would check the fuel filter for blockage anyhow, but that wouldn't cause a problem specifically with only one cylinder. However it may already be close to clogging and causing more future problems if you just cleaned the rusty tank. I cleaned a zx9 tank and my new filter got clogged very quickly and needed replacing after one day. Turns out I didn't get all the rust out of the tank and had to clean it again. You should probably consider changing the jets since it is apart and you say it runs lean. One of my zx11s has a left side muzzy pipe and dyno jet 160 mains, mixture screw 2.75 turns out. 155 keihn mains and 1-5/8 turns out is stock in california. UK may be different. 155 jets and 1-3/4 turns out in UK I believe??

    • @QuickBikes
      @QuickBikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you matey, that's very helpful. I know thr jets need changing and was going to do a dyno run to get an AFR graph, then monkey with the jetting and doing another dyno run etc. Now I'm considering getting a stage 2 dynojet kit as that should be pretty close to what I've got.... hmmmmm..... 🤔

    Please check the routing of the carb vent hoses with the manual, I seem to remember I had a similar issue which ended up being a blocked (pinched) hose, first I thought it was going to be spark plugs especially if the are ngk and bought from eBay, so many fakes around, I only buy my plugs from decent shops/motor factors now. Could the carburetors (or something else) be slowly damaged over time from ethanol in the fuel, causing the engine to run rough?
    I don't think any ZX-11s (Cs or Ds) were designed and built (in the 1990s through 2001) for today's fuels containing ethanol.
    Just something to consider...

  • @brianwells5258
    @brianwells5258 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Simon....,Carbs and Cylinders are numbered 1,2,3,4 from 'left to right'...
    (Your HT leads should be labeled with little coloured tabs and fitted accordingly...)
    Have you got the plug leads 2&3 mixed up and fitted incorrectly...?
    Switch over spark plugs 1& #"3" which is the pot it is off...(Not #2)., to see if it is a bad plug...
    A bad plug is obviously an easy fix if that's the problem..
    If not, my money is on a blocked pilot jet...(they are fairly susceptible...)
    Very rare for a coil to go bad...(similar to ZRX's)
    .......but be 100% sure of your plug lead sequence...'left to right'...1,2.3,4.
    Oh, and you could also take the lead out of the cap on #3 and trim 10mm off then refit it to be sure of a good connection....
    BG.

    • @QuickBikes
      @QuickBikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers matey. The coil feeds cylinders 2 and 3 and its basically a wasted spark setup from what I can tell, ie both spark plugs fire at the same time but only one cylinder is on its power stock, so surely it doesn't matter if 2 and three have been switched around. I think I covered it in the video where we swit he'd rhe plug leads around and got the same result matey... 🤔

    Hello Quicky, I would check for a spark again on both cylinders 2 and 3 as I think it's the plug lead/cap. Swapping them over will still give the problem, just that the other cylinder will be not firing. Could check the spark on 1 or 4, is it as good as 2 or 3, that might also tell you something about the coils.
    I'm not convinced it's a fuel issue.

    • @QuickBikes
      @QuickBikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah we did this but the camera wasn't filming.... I should have said. The coil measures a bit off do it's just getting replaced. It can't hurt to Di so in my mind.

  • @Stuff_And_Things_0
    @Stuff_And_Things_0 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good bit of fault finding 😄. Surely from your testing we have to believe the electrics are ok. People have mentioned about numbering the cylinders incorrectly but if it's the middle two cylinders that share the same coil then it doesn't matter if it's 2&3 or 3&2 👍. I agree, some sort of carb issue/air leak issue. Is there a drain screw on the float bowls you could get to? Just to see if there's the expected volume in the bowl for the dodgy cylinder compared to a good one. That's my two cents 🤣. Good luck.

    • @QuickBikes
      @QuickBikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're thinking along the same lines as me matey. As for the drain screws, I can't get to them with the carbs in place which is a shame. I was hoping to find bugger all fuel in it as a cause of the problem... 🤔

    without watching the vid ...sounds very fuel y lets see if Im right hahhaha!!!! and at 6.27 Im wrong ! ( Ive had plugs that LOOK and test fine but under pressure fail,, try a working or new plug ) or sell it and buy a Royal Enfield ,,, electrical faults are "sudden" carbs are full-time dependent on the circuit, 1 change at a time it sounded like the cylinder wasn't getting fuel, does the cylinder "pick up " when u squirt a bit of wd40 down its throat when running have u swapped a known good plug into the cylinder ? or swapped coils over ( not just leads ) resistor in spark plug cap failed ? . The problem disappeared when you moved the wiring swapped leads but came back when put back to the original position, so you "disturbed something" compression test ( just to check basics ) but a known good plug in cylinder 2 , test ,,, swap coils over not just leads , when running move wiring, HT leads around see problem "changes " ..... be very interested in the outcome !
