    great video, congratulations.
I have a problem with the esp32 with LED. The tape flashes and if I put it in pink, for example, it flashes different colors.
The tape is approximately 1 meter away from the microcontroller. Will I have to make the connection using a shielded cable? I already connected another time, at a distance of 3 meters from the esp 32. What would the connection be like for such long distances between the beginning of the tape and the esp32?

Did you ever get this figured out? I am having the same issue and I have tried it multiple times. I am using a little different board but it’s still a ESP32 which I have working with a half dozen different projects. This is the only one using two pins with one controller. For my board it is GPO 16 & 17. The lights on GPO 16 are only a couple inches away while the one on 17 is about 6’ away. The ones on 16 work perfectly but the ones on 17 are all erratic like you describe. The effects are not the same and it just flashes erratically. This is the second time I’ve tried to set it up like this. Seems pretty simple and I’m not missing anything but this is puzzling.

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +9

Thanks so much for watching! So the way it was explained to me is that the data signal coming off the esp device is not super strong. its strong enough to get to led strips as long as they are somewhat close to the controller. However once the data gets to an led, the led is able to boost the signal therefore allowing it to travel further distances to an led strip and still have things work. For example, if you had the controller and then ran 15 feet of wire to your first led strip, the data would probably not make it that far and the led strip would be doing all sorts of crazy things. But if you put one led close to the controller then run your 15 feet or wires, the data should be able to make it to the strip and work perfect. Hope that makes a little sense!

The second method is 2. Its running an esp8266 which I believe has a max of 3 pins you can use but with the setup and relays on the board, two is the max. Now you can split the data to go to more strips but thats a little different! The first method i'm using an esp32 which has more pins you can use. Here is a great resource that goes a little more into what WLED recommends: kno.wled.ge/features/multi-strip/#:~:text=There%20is%20a%20maximum%20of,a%20total%20of%201024%20LEDs.

I'm envisioning a setup with 4 LED strips connected to each ESP32, amounting to a total of 16 LED strips across 4 ESP32s. Is there a method to establish communication among the ESP32s so that after the first unit completes its task, it passes the baton to the next, ensuring a domino effect until all 16 LED strips have displayed their animations and are ready to loop back to the beginning?

Hey Chris. I've travelled down many a rabbit hole and your vids are deffs the most concise and informative. I think I was reading that you can only have two data chains on the board. I’m setting up 8x quasar lights using RGBW SK6812 60pm Addressable LEDs at 1200mm lengths with say 4-5m tails so I can move and position them around the room.
I have a ESP32 and I'm getting an INMP441 Microphone so I can use these lights with my band and not have to control them while playing as per your video on this channel.
I am powering everything with a 5v 60a 300w power supply. Hopefully I did my sums correctly. So what I am doing is powering the LEDs using wago clips on the negatives and positives and then using another set of Wago clips for joining the data cables. Is that the correct way to do it with the data? I do have a sp901e Signal Amplifier/Controller and an SP107E Bluetooth music controller coming as I found the ESP32 afterwards. Can I use the SP901E and use the ESP32 as the controller so that I can seperate each of the 8 light strips?

Have you ever connected LED strips to a solar system?
I would like add some waterproof LED strips to the bottoms of our outdoor furniture to get a glow from below, like people do to their beds. I can put the chips in a water proof box to protect it under the furniture. However, I have no clue how to convert a 16.4’ of LED strips to a small solar panel so it can run for 8-10 hours a night. It would be a bonus if I could control it with my phone when it’s powered on at night.
You do some pretty creative things and was hoping maybe I over looked a video that you’ve done or maybe even give you an idea for something new. Looked all over TH-cam and haven’t had any luck.
    Keep up the videos!

Hey man, your videos are great but 18AWG wire is not safe for a 20A power supply.
18 AWG is rated for up to 10A. These wires could melt if something happens to cause them to pull more current than you except.

Hi Chris, I picked up the DomAuto plug-and-play board with WLED pre-Installed. Q1, since this board is providing all the power there is any need to use the extra "red" and "white" power wires on the LED strip?
Q2 will I be able to run two 300ct strips using just one of these boards? For this use case I have a "BTF-LIGHTING AC100-240V to DC5V40A Max200W".
HELP SECTION: My dilemma. My setup I am using a 5v 6A PSU with BTF WS2812B LED light strip w/ 300 pixels. I have the I have LEDs connected to the Domestic Auto board via the clip, I open WiFi on my iPhone, find the WLED-AP, and connect. I do the WiFi and LED setup as you have directed, Save...but when I open the WLED App on my phone NO lights are detected, so I'm unable to connect to the board. I am lost. Now the WLED-AP isn't showing as a WiFi option. Is there a way to do factory reset>?
I don't have a laptop, so I only use my phone, but if I DO try to connect using what I named it .local, I get nothing. This is at my church and I have a total of 4 strips, and I haven't had any luck with so far getting them hooked to the WifI. I have also attempted and failed to use an ESP board with jumper wires. Is it possible to use one strip on the back of the bike that is split in half to make 2 segments, one for left turn, one for right turn. Could I then set a “Chase” pattern for each segment and control each segment independently with a button switch on the handlebars?

Sacrificial Pixels: While an interesting technique, you are going to have problems using strips of the alternative LED types as the protocols are not the same. RGBW vs RGB is also problematic. Is there a way to remove them from the communications path?

    good day Sir
I'm going to power up and control 1,250 leds.
but there's flickering. I only use d2 pin for my 1,250 leds
there's no problem with the power because I put 4 5volts 10amperes in every 312 leds.
I tried to use d2 and d4 to divide into two the 1,250 leds 625leds from center to left ⬅️ and 625leds from center to right ▶️ per data GPIO pin.
    but sadly there's still flickering.
I set my maximum limit of 2000mA per power supply.
this is a single straight line.
