- Making a Chest of Drawers. This video shows the making of a six drawer tall chest. This Chest is made of solid tiger maple from one log for consistency of figure throughout the entire chest. The construction of this chest is made with hand cut dovetail joinery. The chest top has a custom crown molding with exposed dovetail joinery. The drawers are made of solid quarter sawn poplar with solid one piece figured poplar drawer bottoms. The drawers are joined with hand cut dovetails. The finish is an aniline dye followed by a beautiful protective shellac based Royal Lac finish. www.shellacfini...

What's cool about the dovetail joinery being done by hand is that each dovetail is unique from the next, if even slightly.

i have huge respect for paul hes helped me alot.but and its a big but i can see from your work your joinery is above his.
a class of its own.id pay good money to watch you teach.
the one thing that all these so called gurus hold back is the core basic knowledge of when where and why you use certain joints and the basics of design.im not stupid i no why,if they did teach us that then we wouldn't have to watch them anymore.
this info is so hard to come by ive been searching for years and cant find it.ive asked paul why he teaches how to build drawers tables and chairs and how to make the joints but not tell what the joint is best used for,but i get a long answer basically avoinding answering me.
i no your really busy and probably dont have the time to teach how to build projects but maybe you could do an in depth series on the joint application and basic desgn and how to tackle projects from start to finish

Gorgeous, but shows that tiger maple is virtually impossible to glue into a panel and make the joint line disappear. It cannot be done.

It seems that you typically use a LN 4 1/2 high angle smoother (or something close to it), but every once in a while I notice that you pick up what looks like a Veritas LA smoother. Is one more comfortable than the other? Or is there a functional difference?

paul sellers does 4 30-40min vids on building projects and charges $15 dollars a month id willingly pay $25-30 for your classes, 100 subscribers and thats $3000 am month extra.your filming the process now anyway all youd have to do is film its entirety and talk us thru while doing it. sorry to keep going on but this vid bought a tear to my eye your skill is immense.

ok question here, can you explain how you route this drawer edge profile hand tools? go to time 10:23......im finishing a dresser of my own, and can do this with a regular power router, but wanted to see if the brain trust knew a hand tool method...as always im very inspired by your crasftmanship! what a fantastic piece.

Abrasives are a no no on pieces like these. Deadflat smooth is a bad thing to achieve!
there are so many things that I love about this video! the ultra fine and tight dove tails at 2:10& the slow motion at 3: 25. when u were planing in the dark. thats just a couple examples..too many to list =)
question : what kind of hand plane was that you were using at 4:10 ?
this whole project and video is amazing! I love the shot when you are planing the top or might have been the case side and it looked like it was night. ( you could see your shadow) little details like that make it such an awesome video. I can honestly say I can't wait for your next video :-) take care, and have a good one!!

Why do you handplane everything as opposed to mechanized planing?
It produces a finsih 100x better than any electric planer can produce. Hand tools all the way.
@@conradsmith9332 you know it ;) powertool users are a disease to me. Always wanting industrial modern perfection! The uneveness of the finish wood along with the skin-like feel of that shelac adds something to the wood you just cant get with modern synthentic finishes
