  • This video shows the making of a Custom Entertainment Center. This Entertainment Center is made of solid Cherry with solid Curly Cherry Door Panels from the same log for consistent color, grain, and figure. This Entertainment Center is made as part of a set with a custom coffee table and two end table we recently completed. This Entertainment Center will have 12 doors total. Both middle upper and lower sections will have bi-fold pocket doors that will slide back into the case allowing easy access and views to electronics and TV. The upper section will house a 50” flat screen TV and the lower section will house all of the electronics. The upper side doors have glass panels with a cherry detail to match the design of the other pieces this was designed with. We designed this Entertainment Center to have hidden wiring with easy access. This piece is finished with shellac and Royal lac from www.shellacfini...
    www.doucetteand...
    The cherry is from Irion Lumber in PA. www.irionlumber...
    Check out our cousins videos, He is a budding film maker that recently started a TH-cam channel. Check Him Out / @user-jf8wb3tt8b
    At Doucette and Wolfe Furniture Makers we make fine custom and reproduction furniture to order combining a meticulous attention to detail and overall quality with the finest hardwoods available today. These combined attributes give our clients furniture that is both beautiful and most importantly functional for daily use.

    You are a skilled craftsman! I've learned a lot from watching your methods for shaping edges among other things. Your furniture is beautiful and built to last a lifetime or two.
    You use one hand plane that seems to be a smoothing plane, but is shaped like a coffin (at 5:56 min mark). I know I have seen this plane before, but can't place it. You seem to use it for smoothing edges and what I believe is the Lie Nelson 4 1/2 smoother for the surfaces. What is this other plane?

  • @johnokeefe9983
    @johnokeefe9983 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hoping you can take a minute to answer a few questions about the video: Where did you purchase the lumber? Why did you use the miter plane on the edges of the panels? Why did you prefinish the panel pieces with shellac and then plane the panel pieces after which would remove the shellac? A really incredible piece of work.

    What is that boxy three-sided plane you use on the cherry (at 5:50)? You follow up with a #4 (#5?) plane after that, so I am wondering why the different planes. Beautiful work on beautiful wood. You capture the chatoyance perfectly.

    • @Doucetteandwolfefurniture
      @Doucetteandwolfefurniture  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a no 9 “iron miter plane” which is not made anymore. Stanley and Lie Nielsen made them. I have it sharpened differently than the #4 smoother. One to flatten and clean the surface and one for final finish.

    • @gregcarter661
      @gregcarter661 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Doucetteandwolfefurniture Thank you for the reply. One more question if I may: what finish do you use on pieces like that? You don't need to worry about water rings on the entertainment center but the matching pieces may well get drinks set on them...

    Okay, now THAT's what I call a jointer at 0:25! I have a few questions about it...first, how wide is it, like 20"? Also, who is the manufacturer? Additionally, I notice that other than for turning and hogging off heavy amounts of material quickly, you pretty much do everything by hand from start to finish, including some extensive face planing with hand planes based on what I've seen. This isn't a criticism at all, but I'm curious...what's the point of face jointing if you're going to do some surfacing with hand planes anyway? Again, just curious.
