Always felt that this was one of the most elegant pieces of furniture ever made (especially when used as the base of the secretary bookcase - nine shells!! - in the John Brown house museum in Providence).
This is amazing, and it's refreshing to see so much done by hand. I make furniture in my spare time but I'm a machinist by trade so I end up 'cheating' a fair bit. I might make it a mission to make something from scratch by hand.
Since he is about 38 years old in this clip he have had time to learn. Also it's not all about experience. It's also about talent in the form of good hand-eye coordination, visual-spatial skills, manual dexterity and dedication. :)

Amature question....is it just traditional that the dovetails are made so narrow? Looks like they would be quite fragile at the narrowest point and would be much stronger if the widths were even just a little wider.
If you don't mind me asking, where did you study the craft? I'm afraid you might say Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, because I just can't imaging ever getting this good.
