I think it's a drive for competence in a given area. Knowing how an engine works, how to maintain it, how to tear it down, all vital-- and fast becoming a lost art. Now people don't know how to do any maintenance at all and rely on software updates. What can be given can be taken away too.

If you have any damage to a Tesla you are going to have a nightmare of a time getting it repaired for that exact reason. Also extremely expensive. It's basically John Deere all over again.

10:45 I feel the same about my very first car. I wish I could have kept it. It was a 1982 Honda Civic hatchback stick. I loved that car. We went through a LOT together. I took it mudding of all things. Moved myself from apartment to apartment in two trips each. Of course not the big furniture. It was uncomfortable as heck to ride in, but I made it more comfortable over time. Miss my Buddy.
My son is like this guy. He bought a 94 Bronco and lifted it 4". Then bought F250 axles but the weight bogged it down so he bought an F250 and put the 7.3 diesel motor in it. We went and checked out a specialized Jeep shop one day and when we left I said, Jeeps are cool looking but I hear they're not reliable so you have to work on them a lot. He replied, Yeah, but that's a cool thing. 😄
As outplayed as LS swaps are (coming from someone who owns one..), Gen3/Gen4 LS engines are the holy grail for the DIY guy (although you won't catch me installing any Advance Auto/Autozone supplied parts on my vehicle happily..) and the points made about Teslas not being servicable is harsh but entirely believable (I would say accurate, but of course, no first hand experience..). And that reality is spreading further and further into even the Gas/Diesel world. Getting "Hard parts" for vehicles (trucks in my case) isn't exactly difficult, but the (sometimes unnecessary) electronic integration with those parts would be a nightmare for the average DIYer. Service resets, relearns, manual Regens, injector coding, etc are all out of reach for those who aren't armed with a solid diagnostic scanner/center..
Sweet. It's awesome that he is gonna supercharge it too. I've never heard of Rich Rebuilds before, but I'm damn sure gonna go watch some now, especially knowing they're souping it up even more. If he ever does something like this again, he should go full tilt on it. A turbocharged V-12 or maybe a Viper V10. 2500-3200 HP all damn day.
