  • Review of the Alien action figure made by Kenner in 1979.
Looking over the mouth/jaw action, glow in the dark skull feature, the instruction & poster sheet, and the detailed sculpt and available articulation.
Highly collectible toy because it was marketed to children although it was based on a carnage causing creature in a 'R' rated movie. As a result, parents protested and the figures experienced a short shelf life. Now, they are sought out by collectors because of it's size, figure detailing, and scarcity.

My dad gave us a loose, salvation army find "Big Chap" when we were little. He was expecting us to be happy and add it to the Star wars collection. Instead, this guy went into the dark corners of the closet and never, ever saw the light of day.

Alien was released on May 25, 1979, the same date as Star Wars in ‘77.

This is a classic vintage toy. Back then, it was too controversial to sell to kids. Now, those kids are adults buying the vintage and newer lines of the Alien franchise toys. I wasn't quite 2 years old when Alien was released in 1979. I was like around 4 or 5 when I first watched it. I wasn't scared when I first watched it. I was fascinated more than anything, especially with the John Hurt chest burster scene. It's high up in my all-time favorite sci-fi/horror movies list.

I got one of these ALIEN figures for Christmas 1979 as a kid. I loved it and carried it around with me all day. Then it was time for bed at night and I got scared of it because of the glowing skull. My Mom got mad and took it back to JC Penny's so everyone in the house could get a peaceful nights sleep. I did manage to get another one from a Scifi collectables shop for $250 ten years later almost mint in box with the poster.

Great story, and at least you got a good one now! Yeah the figure as a kid was great fun in the daytime, but when night came it went into the closet. Thanks for sharing and watching!

yeah that dome hasn't colored with age. That is the original color. It was a dark color when bought. This thing is in pristine condition. I have one from 1979 though mine is well played with.

My dad bought that for me when I was a kid at a trade show I think it was maybe one of the first ones that was made but I loved it when I was a kid with the glow-in-the-dark skull and everything until I seen that movie and then I got nightmares so I ended up smashing it with a hammer in the backyard

If you only knew then what you know now. This figure today goes for around $2K mint in box and several hundred for one in good used condition with or without box.
