    I’m excited to bring you a video I’ve been wanting to do for a while. I’ve been a collector of this toy line since it came out in 1992. In this video I’ll rank my top five xenomorph figures from the Kenner Aliens toy line. I’ll be doing plenty more videos with discussions of this line and Kenner’s many other toy lines.
    Thank you so much for stopping by 2Day Rentals.

    The Flying Queen was awesome, as was one that was basically a giant facehugger with a retractable winch tail. Loved this line. Kay Bee constantly had sales on them, so it was the go-to for bypassing pick one, as you said. "But Mom, I got 100 on my Math test this week, and this says if you get two the third one is free! A whole extra toy for free, mom!" Worked every time.

    The commercial on TV was my gateway drug into watching the movie when I was 8. I had older friends who I remember talked about the movie when I was 5 or 6, but I never saw the movie. After I saw the toys, I asked my dad to watch the movie and he happily let me watch. It blew my 8 year old mind! It's still one of my favorite movies.

      @@2DayRentals well for me I feel like it’s one of the reasons why the franchise has gotten a little sour because when you see the designs of the toys and what was released in the comics and the video games, it shows how much creativity can be used and yet they always seem to stick with the same basic body types. I mean, I can’t understand what people like a little bit but for me maybe we need to just go into some elsewhere alien movies. Just have people find a planet that happens to have the creatures on it and all the weird variance that they need to fight to survive. Basically just crazy exciting aliens combine with the crazy survival intensity and battles of alien 2.

    • @2DayRentals
      @2DayRentals  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@geminihero you’re not wrong about that at all. I was having a conversation with a good friend of mine last night who just saw Romulus and even though we both really like the movie, my biggest complaint with any new media from the Aliens universe is the fact that they neglect all the stories from the comics. There is so much to pull from. Same to be said with Toys it’s a real bummer. Never say never but, it’s been over 30 years at this point and rarely does anything come out that pulls from the comic books be at toys video games or movies. I keep hoping. Thanks so much for joining the conversation. Really good points.

      Aliens was the first "adult" movie I saw, I was 7 years old at the time and I remember coming home from school...and my dad was watching it on VHS, I walked in just before the scene with Vasquez and Gorman in the air ducts, like you, blew my mind, sat down and watched the rest, loved it! He had a huge collection of VHS tapes back then, with tons of films taped off the TV, and had this book that listed what was on what tape...needless to say, after my mom initially gave him a huge grilling for allowing me to see it that young, she calmed down a bit and me and my dad went through watching all the classic movies on his tapes together, fond memories!

    Jeeze... this period of time was so great for kids. I remember i had quite a few of the Aliens toys. if i remember correctly i had the winged one, the bull one, the regular one and i think one that spit. I didn't get any of the human figures in the line cause i had other plans... You see by that time there was a Dark Horse comic i was in love with. That comic was of course Alien Vs Predator. So yeah i also got those predator toys to fight those aliens. Ya include the T2 toys i had and the Batman Return toys... buddy boy it was Alien vs Predator vs Terminator vs Batman. Like i said a great time to be a kid.

    I remember when I watched the movie in 94 through Cable and I was hooked since! I remember once we were older 8-10 with my cousins we'd use the old queens as royal guards protecting the queen of the hive playset from the predators. It was awesome to have cousins that would have some of the same toys to really create a herd or a swarm. Good times thanks for bringing them again.
    My favorite back then was the bull Alien for the colors, but the gorilla was my top 2.

    This was a very fun list! Kenner Aliens is probably one of my favorite toylines in the 90s, along with Jurassic Park/The Lost World and Batman TAS. However I felt the only thing missing was a large scale playset, but I ever knew they actually had one planned! Yes, there was an Alien Queen hive playset which was an old school slime pit, but that was it.
    As a substitute I use the back of my Kenner Batcave playset which looks like a suitable environment for the figures. I'm even tempted to buy the 1/18 scale JoyToy diorama sets because those look like the backgrounds used for the Aliens toy commercials. You really made me want to buy more Kenner Aliens toys today!
    Here is my top 5:
    1. Flying Alien Queen
    2. Gorilla Alien
    3. Bull Alien
    4. Mantis Alien
    5. Snake Alien

    • @2DayRentals
      @2DayRentals  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fantastic list! It was hard to narrow it down to five but, I forced myself to. 🤦‍♂️ I agree. 100% agree they could've done so much more with this line. I play set would have been great. Kenner always repurposed so many molds. They easily could’ve repainted and done something with the GhostBuster fire house or even the BatCave. I think I know the JoyToy sets you’re talking about… I found a licensed Aliens play set but for smaller figures. It definitely works and I will mention it in my next Aliens video which is coming soon. Thanks so much for stopping by!

    As I said, I am catching up with your ALIEN figures vids, and this one is just so cool. The Flying Alien appeared also on the Konami ALIENS Arcade game, where its head is a bit similar in design to the Kenner Flying Alien Queen, as opposed to the SNES AVP game Flying/Bat Alien.
    When I started collecting the 90s Kenner Line my first Alien figure was indeed the Scorpion Alien because it looked similar to the Movie Aliens version, the second was the first small Queen Alien which was ok in my eyes at the time. But you can imagine my rush to get the Alien Warrior in the two pack with the Renegade Predator when it came out LOL, and more importantly the Queen Alien and Egg sack Playset.
    The Night Cougar Alien was the first figure I customized ( had like 5 figures so I could sacrifice one) and to this day it is my best as a beginner in the customization. It retains the head articulation, but the head I re-sculpted to look like a Takeya's Alien Warrior. The Back parasite was eliminated and I made a bone ridge which looks good if I say so myself, and then I repainted it similar to the Dog Alien but with more black tones than brown. So far it is many's favorite, and it will be the first I will present in the future when I start presenting vids of my customs, though I've shared it in on my social media.

    I loved this toyline as a kid, was utterly obsessed with it! I think I can recall exactly where I got every single one of the figures. The queen alien I picked up in a UK store called mothercare, which weirdly enough mostly sold toys for infants. No idea why it was there. My 1st figure was the queen facehugger however and to me this is always my top fig from the line as it holds so many fond memories. I also later got to calling it Marjorie for some reason. Simple silly action features but fantastic sculpt and you could hang it off the front of the powerloader.

      Well the other thing about me, is that I'm totally blind, I have no eyesight. so for me, these figures were a way to feel sort of what the aliens in the movies were like. I mean I did have to keep asking my parents, so when did the bull alien come? to which they got very confused, but it gave me an idea of the biomechanics aspect. I have to say I've tried to get many NECA figures over the years and they just don't hav the same stirdy chunky appeal. Too many joints, too much bendy plastic, too much articulation which causes them to colapse and not enough silly jaw ramming action features.ONly one I like from NECA is the snake alien which is really incredibly scary to behold.@@2DayRentals

    I have an Alien figure collection on display in my apartment, and I sold some at a random Toy Show, but I still have a bunch of this Kenner line. My favorite is the Alien Queen with Playstation. The whole transparent green thing you can load up with the slime included. That Queen was beautifully sculpted. Her connection to the egg sac was great, and the figure was removable. It's my favorite Alien Queen I own. The MacFarlane Alien Queens looked a lot better, but "back in the day", this was the best.

      I couldn’t agree with you more. That Queen Hive set from Kenner is just an incredibly well made toy all the way down to the detail of the sculpt. It was a bucket list toy for me for many years. The scorpion alien was the first one I got, along with the Hicks figure, my mind was blown at the time. Scorpion was my favourite because it looked most like the aliens from the film, but youre right that the new breeds of aliens are kind of cool, although some like the scorpion alien with 'twin chestbursters' were kind of stupid. Shame all the marines didn't come with a pulse rifle, some of the weapons sucked. Vazquez was the only one with a pulse rifle to my knowledge and I never managed to get that one. The new Lanard alien toys look pretty cool.

    When these came out, the only one I wanted, and which I got, was the Scorpion alien, because like you said, it looked the most like the ones in the movie. In fact, it always annoyed me when they would make toy lines composed of figures that never appeared in the movies, or they gave the human characters ridiculous accessories.
    Kenner did later put out a movie accurate figure, but some dimwit at the company decided that it should be molded out of light blue plastic! I never bought that one.
    Luckily, they finally got it right with the Aliens vs. Predator two pack.

    • @2DayRentals
      @2DayRentals  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I see where you’re coming from. When I was a kid I wanted to the figures to be carbon copies from the movie. The older I have gotten I definitely appreciate what they did and understand it from a toyetic approach. In the documents I have from Kenner when they were doing market research to determine the validity of creating this line it does talk about how most of the kids surveyed and they did play test for hadn’t seen the movie and were much more drawn to the xenomorphs rather than the humans. So, my guess is going for the flashy colors, and off the wall design was just to bring more attention to the line from the perspective of the kids. So, in a way I get it…but it still would have been cool if they did an entire line with screen accurate figures during that time. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for checking out my channel.

    In the comics the Gorilla Alien didn't actually come from an earth gorilla. It came out of a different alien creature that looked a bit like a gorilla. So I guess the same with the mantis alien. I used the Night Cougar Alien as the dog Xeno from Alien 3.

    I can honestly say I have bought every single alien you showed on your video. But sadly, the only one who probably did not survive my childhood would be the queen, who was one of my top favorite next to the flying queen and the king alien. But because of her I did learn a lot more about how toy companies make toys. And because that is one of the reasons why I was able to stop buying toys when I realized this. Let me try and make a quick explain. Have you ever bought a toy that had like moving parts like springs or locking mechanisms and you love that toy so much that you just spent hours on days using that toy over and over again until eventually one day, it feels like the toy just doesn’t work anymore like something broke or something got dislocated and it’s just not working anymore, for my friend, it was his original sword, striking lion-o figure you keep pushing that button in the bag, making his arm go up and down, striking with his sword until one day, it just stopped working in the button, just jammed up inside him. Well, something like that happened to my queen alien 1st of the tongue launching action she had in my opinion wasn’t well designed because first off for it to launch out there has to be a amount of oxygen be able to push it out, then pull it back in when you look up problem was is that the seal was not very tight in the rubber would get brittle overtime from probably the oil from my fingers maybe?…. but I think the death blow was the tail whipping action say there is a button that you push that makes the queen twist yourself to strike with her tail and if you push the button, you could hear the clicking noise it had a spring inside that would spring it back into its original position. The problem is if you’re a kid who is loving this toy a little too much and you’re constantly pushing a button, knocking down your action figures over and over and over again eventually one day she’s going to literally throw her hip out!…lol
    This is one of my childhood kind of ended because I finally put two into together and realize that toy companies don’t really care about the quality of the toy. They just want to set them out and have kids play with them until they break so that they can bother the parents to buy more. Now that I think about it, maybe it’s not a coincidence that the ones I love the most with the ones that broke the most…… and not because I was rough with them or over play with them too much they were just not well built. Because the same thing happened to my flying queen, her wings were incredibly heavy and that seem like a design flaw by the company or maybe it was intentional I don’t know because as you’re trying to make her wings flap, the weight of her wings with sometimes caused them to pop off and then eventually, as time went by the plastic that held the wings in place would start to bend and warp, and you would never be able to get the wings to stay on anymore….. and then there’s my king alien who had that locking pincher that would double as a crown on his head, where he would go up to his enemy and you push a button and his crown would reveal pictures that would grab your enemy with two claws, it would come out and catch that that also had a spring mechanism and that also would end up getting worn out even if you didn’t do it much it’s still had a lot of weight to it in my opinion, and just doing it only a dozen times because the mechanism to wear out maybe the spring would stretch and next thing you know only one with come down or it would not lock in place at all.
    It’s a shame I stop collecting toys because I remember about two years ago at Walmart that they were selling a large queen figure that was modeled after the original queen from aliens. I am not gonna lie looking back. It was beautiful. You had a little egg next to it and a face hugger, and it came with a stand that you could lock it onto the display on the shelf or a display case if you want to do it had, I’ll give you a better retractable, tongue, action and its tail didn’t have a whipping action like it’s first version, but it did have a impressive wire in its tail that will allow you to move the tail almost any direction you want it also it was quite large too…. if I had to describe how big it was. It looked about as big as the original T-Rex from the Jurassic Park toy line….. seriously where was this when I was a kid?!?…lol
    Me and my friends are always joking around about how it’s kind of depressing that toys got cooler when we got too old to have toys.😂😂

    • @2DayRentals
      @2DayRentals  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hell, yeah thanks for sharing some background on your toy collection when you were younger and how you evolved away from it as you got older, I love hearing peoples journeys with collecting. Yeah it’s something I’m cautious of with Toys. Because it is inevitable that plastics gonna wear down and break, I feel like I was pretty rough on toys. I made a lot of movies as a kid used actual fireworks and things like that and for the most part most of my toys held up. Mostly 😈 but I think there’s something to say about the quality of toys that are made, especially knowing kids will have their hands on them and they’re just gonna break.
      Sadly, I don’t know how much better it’s gotten on one hand. I’ve had really good luck with say the G.I. Joe classified figures on the other hand companies like. NECA are real hit and miss. I spent $40 on a figure before and as soon as I pulled it out of the package, something broke on it which is a damn shame.
      It’s kind of tough being a collector these days I mean there’s so much cool shit that’s new that comes out but I also like to go back and pick up things. I didn’t have when I was younger, so it can be very expensive and quite overwhelming gotten out of the fear of missing out stage. I used to jump on pre-orders as soon as they went up and depending on what it is, I still may but honestly it’s like always say never pay more than retail for a new toy. Sometimes though that’s easier said than done.
      Thanks so much for sharing that awesome story and a little background about you. I enjoy these types of conversations and I really appreciate you checking out my channel.

    I loved me some Kenner as a child, but Toybiz really showed them up with their articulation. Even their Batman from the first film had knees as opposed to the later Kenner line for the sequel.
    It was worse with the Aliens and Predators because they were all in dymamic poses which made it impossible to, for example, sit one in a Batmobile.

      @@Draliseth it’s funny I was just having a conversation with someone over the weekend about this. It’s a shame that toy collecting has basically become a race to pre-order stuff. I’ve really tapped the brakes on pre orders over the past couple of years…it’s not really how I prefer to acquire all of my toys. You’re absolutely right you will end up over paying if you don’t get in on the pre-orders… so it’s always a slippery slope. Wish I could show up to a Target early on a Saturday morning with a chance to get something you’re looking for… that’s just not the case. Atleast where I live…

      I don't think that's the case where *_anyone_* lives. I'm not really into collecting, there's just a figure every once and great while that tickles my fancy or is a character I adore, but because I'm not plugged in enough to the collector scene they always disappear into the internet ether.
      Another thing I've noticed nowadays is toys don't advertise the rest of the line on the box anymore. I can't help but wonder if this is the reason why.

I’ve been in a target where I’ve seen an employee stocking figures, stop what they were doing and call someone to say…”Yeah we got so and so figure you were looking for…” 🤦‍♂️ ah well
      That could definitely a reason you don’t see figures advertised on the back of boxes… used to be my favorite thing… going to the toy aisle and being surprised by a new line and flipping over the card to see what the rest of the line had to offer…long gone days

    The different xenomorphs come from xeno's implanting themselves into other alien species that have similar animal features we know. Meaning the praying mantis xeno did not impregnate nor was genetically engineer on earth. That xeno was implanted in a foreign alien species that has those features. This idea is presented and introduced in one of those comics. I think it was the rhino alien comic that went over it.

I remember some years down the road they started selling them at big lotts so i got a lot of aliens and predators from there. Most of my childhood years involved playigh with my aliens and predator figures. i had the ghost busters tower so that was always the lv426 complex or the atmosphere processor. man those were the days. i still remember looking through a Darkhorse previews book on my way to school and seeing alien and predator comics and absolutely losing my shit. I am pretty sure my decision to join the Marines was def because of the the movie Aliens.

    Nice video. Hate to be that guy, buuuut; although there was an initial plan to create an animated series to support the toyline as " Operation: Aliens", it never happened. Fox declined the proposal, however Kenner then pivoted to create animated TV commercials. The animation stills you refer to are from that unreleased/unused spot. At the very last second, Kenner dropped the animated TV spots in favor of the well known live-action TV spots. It's still unclear as to why the "Operation" moniker was ultimately dropped...

Kenner were too dumb to remember that they shouldn't be making toys of R-rated Horror films after the backlash they got with their first Alien toy, but they did it again anyway to promote the third film whilst basing it on the second due to its military aesthetic. Because nothing says "For Kids!" like getting Facehugged and impregnated with a monster, doesn't it? And considering that Kenner also did toys for Predator, they also thought that an Action Thriller about an Alien coming down to Earth to _rip our heads and spinal cords off after killing us in a hunt_ was also perfect kids' stuff.
