      @@Pants786 Hi mate. I actually hunted this video down again because I am on the very cusp of buying an X350/X358 and I wanted to find out how your ownership experience has gone.
      I am going to get a V8, and the 4.2 at that but I must admit the R is looking really tempting.
      I know it isn't going to be cheap to run, but I have a Honda Jazz shed for most driving, the Jag is going be strictly a weekend car, with the occasional long trip.
      The only thing that really concerns me is the ride. I have a Lexus GS300 at the moment and it might surprise you but it is the firm ride that annoys me. I expected it to waft, but it doesn't.....it crashes over bumps in a very non Lexusy way.
      Do you think the ride is firmer on the R over the standard V8?
      Also, why no further videos? You are a natural.

    • @Pants786
      @Pants786  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnmandragon4830 Hello John. The higher speed ride on motorway runs and that sort of thing is excellent and it does cosset you. It is the low speed ride that is lacking. I actually ditched the air suspension as I stumbled across a set of height adjustable coil overs and the ride on them was excellent. However as the self levelling was no longer there it just wasn't as sporty any more.
      The lexus is a firm ride period. The jag will ride better 80% of the time. It's hard to answer in more detail as some of it will be subjective. Mine has recently found a new owner but I did love it.

    • @Pants786
      @Pants786  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnmandragon4830 sorry, yes the R has different shocks (identified by a red dot at the top of the body) so it is firmer. Thank you for your kind words but time just hasn't been on my side. I will do more but no idea what time frame

      Yes, I don't get the Lexus. They build their reputation for making buttery smooth cars, but no longer.
      Did you have an terrible problems with yours?
      Sorry for all the questions.....

    Like you say, the seats are awesome and mine is similarly equipped, except the phone and in cream leather.
    I's love the rapid supercharged V8, but the V6 is no slug and will hopefully be more economical.
    I'd have gone for the diesel if not for Sadiq Khan's intended extension of London's ULEZ in 2021.

    Great video mate, Thoroughly enjoyed it. For my my money though the best XJR is the XJR6 manual, as that does have an LSD and a manual box, and there are huge power gains to be had by modding the supercharged straight six. But I suppose I am biased...

    • @leeevernden
      @leeevernden 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      baldypants no none at all, you can use the auto ECU if you re-route 3 wires in the correct way but I had a chap that developed the XJR6 programme me a manual ECU with the bonus of a few degrees of ignition advance which gives and extra 25bhp or so low-mid range. The only side effect of the conversion is the gearbox warning light is always on, but you just remove the bulb, there is no central computer on the XJR6 so this has no effect on anything else.

    I'd like to have something that would disable the electronic limiter on my 2004 aspirated XJ8, which is currently limiting it to 120 mph. Mine cut out at 122 while I went all out in it when I had a straight stretch of road all to myself. And it obviously had a lot left if not for its governor. And I've read 1 Jaguar enthusiast forum that had a total of 2 owners of aspirated X350s say the same thing just so their XJ8s could get up to their actual potential. I paid $400 U.S. for a device that did it on my 2012 Ford Mustang w/ 3.7L V6 & 6 speed manual transmission. And that Mustang no longer cut out a measly 113 mph.

    Good video - enjoyable and you try and be realistic - while also gushing about the car... Easy to do with SC XJ's!. . Its a ZF 6 Speed (6HP26) - a predecessor to the venerable ZF 8HP used by Alfa Romeo, Alpina, Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Chrysler, Dodge, Jaguar, Jee[. Lamborghina, Lancia, Land Rover, Maserati, Ram Trucks, Rolls Royce, and Toyota. Yes, a transmission that works in a RAM Truck is also a perfect application in an Aston Martin (set up and geared appropriately. So no it's not a dual clutch or a paddles shifted gear banging sport box, but the 8 HP, which is very similar while getting a lot better at everything - can easily compete with Dual clutch or DSG - It's THAT good. The 6HP? One of if not THE BEST automatic of its time period.
    Finally your ride is bad because the air suspension is BROKEN. It's not just "A light on the dashboard" - I have had 4 Jaguar X350's - 2 NA and 2 SC, and when the air suspension is broken, it rides poorly. You need to take a ride in an XJR that the suspension is working as designed. You will see what I I mean.
    Okay then. Done not-picking. The Aluminum Bodies XJR is indeed one of the best kept secrets and least understood cars out there. Shhhhh! We want to keep it that way!

      I thought there was 6HP26 then 6HP28 and then 8 speed?
      On my 2009 RRS SC I had 6HP26
      On my 2013 RRS SC I believe I have 6HP28..
      And newer 2014 and ups received 8sp trannies...

    • @peterrenn6341
      @peterrenn6341 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ditto the comment re air suspension. The fault you can ignore (for a while at least) is the pump failing to get the ride height within (I think?) 2 minutes. However if not addressed it gets worse and won't fully pressurise the reservoir. Changing the pump isn't very difficult and the car doesn't need reprogramming afterwards. They should ride very well. I've got a 2004 XJR which rides better than the 2003 XJ8 it replaced despite much lower profile tyres. Jaaaag knew what they were doing.

    • @Pants786
      @Pants786  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Jules. I don't know what the XKR pipe is like but these have all kind of flow defeating extensions which I believe are there for noise suppression.
      Basically it's a nice flowing 80mm pipe with the obligatory K&N filter in the air box.
      Caldoofy on jaguarforum.com sells them ready to fit the XJR or if you take a look in the description you will see a simple list of parts I have used.
      On it's own it's not going to light the car on fire but with some exhaust work too you can feel the difference and are well set up to get the best out of a pulley upgrade :)

    Hi mate, great video, can you confirm exactly what you’ve done to the exhaust, is it just the 2 back boxes that have been removed, or all 4 x silencers(2x rear & 2x centre) looking forward to more videos👍

    • @Pants786
      @Pants786  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. It has been de-catted and the rear boxes removed and straight piped. The center silencers are still there. Hope that helps :)

      Hi mate, thanks for the reply, I’ve removed my back boxes, cats still in place though, I just find it drones a lot between 1700-2000 rpm, I think I’m going to put the rear silencers back on and remove the 2 centre resonators, hopefully that may reduce the drone👍

    Wait, what? Why do you need to bent height sensors actuators to lower the car? You should be able to just set a default ride height via diagnostic computer. I mean, upon changing those sensors it is recomended to calibrate the height to make sure it is equal on all corners, with that you can calibrate it to be a bit higher or lower without bending anything. Plus wheel alignment should be done/redone at desired (new) height.

  • @alphachingon6920
    @alphachingon6920 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Anti theft device telephone cord haha that’s how the youth of today will understand why it’s there! Here in the Netherlands a nice X350 xjr still costs around 15/22k €uros really ridiculous compared to the UK price but I can’t import one because the steering wheel is on the wrong side to ride on our roads smoothly..
    Btw, what happens when you floor it? You’ll see it only burns rubber on one wheel many times because it lacks a good rear differential, that’s the only thing they could’ve done better.

    So.. When you have a fault in the air suspension the cats won't work.. Hence the suspension will feel bad.

    • @Pants786
      @Pants786  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get what you are saying but a bit of research shows similar opinions on the suspension. I have tried a few over the years including new low mileage cars and it is a common theme. It's not awful, but not what you expect after driving many Jags. It does have advantages when pressing on ;) Still love it but now have coilovers ready to go on so will give them a go.
