As a Mangalorean I've grown up eating Sannas my whole life , my grandmothers and my mum used to make this all time , on special occasions , Christmas , easter , having guests over Sanna and dukramass was a standard and still is a standard dish served on special occasions and the fact that someone is learning about this dish for the first time is so mind boggling to me.
Assam too have a sweet just like this, made with rice powder or flour and grated coconut and sometimes it has jaggery. Not as jiggly as sanna or idli but tastes really nice. They are my favorite!! Btw they are called as TEKELI PITHA or KETLI PITHA. Do try them.
In Assam we have have our “Tekeli Pitha” which almost looks like an idli and is made of rice flour, sugar/jaggery/salt, grated coconut etc. and then it is cooked on top of a kettle.
It used to piss me off when people compared sannas to idlis , I mean sannas are far superior cuz they are more fluffier than idlis and when its had with dukramass its the perfect combination.
Cuisine throughout Parshuram Kshetra (Konkan to Kanyakumari) is very similar. just a few little changes in every dish but the base or essence is very similar ❤️
My father brought it and we were like only idli where is sambhar then my father told us it's a sweet dish I am not able to eat because it is sticky and I have cough at that time but my mom likes it too much one suggestion if you have cold and cough never try it
