  • I try the 8K frame capture on my canon R5 to see if it is any good. I was surprised by the results and I think it can be very useful in certain situations. 8K at 30 fps essentially turns it into a 30 fps stills camera! Let me know if you guys have used it and found it useful.

This is a great feature. I used it a lot with the Panasonic G9 with 6k. So with my Canon R5 in 8k = even better.
As you say, this is useful for moving subjects. As a lot of these images will be heavy crops I would use Gigapixel to increase the resolution and then save them as DNG's.
The advantage of this, over using a video program, is that you don't have to download high megapixel video file. These can be deleted after you have taken the stills that you want.
    Good article, thanks.

Great topic. It’s not a gimmick except that it doesn’t work in raw capture mode. If it could and extracted CR3 files then one has effectively a 30FPS burst mode…

Agree. Raw support would have been great! However, the jpeg and Heif files offer some flexibility as well.

Are the still images 16:9 or 3:2 ? Can you post them online for others to download ?

      I just checked. Here is the meta tag- 33.2MP 7680 x 4320 8.1 MB. So nearly 16:9.

It still seems easier to frame grab on a computer using a good video editing program.

      Probably so...I haven't tried it.

@@carminered3229 I think it is still a good feature. Anyone 100% into photography might not have any video editing tools
