Back in 1981 i was staying at my uncle's farm with my cousin for the weekend. We pulled weeds all day and uncle Gregory paid us both each one 50 dollar bill. It was the most money I had seen in my entire 7 year old life. He then said boys, let's go to a movie tonight, which one, you pick. We looked in the paper and I saw Halloween II, I TOLD my cousin Wilbur, hey we have to go see this one i remembered watchimg the first one last Halloween after trick or treating on NBC 1980 and it scared the living shit out of me and had to go to the new one. We told Gregory we want to see Halloween II. He said ok boys I'll buy you the tickets but im taking your cousin Lana to Time Bandits. So we went to the theater and they went to Time Bandits and a 8 year old, my cousin and a 7 year old, me went into the theater and sat down not knowing what to expect. Well I'll just say that after watching that movie, Michael Myers still shows up unexpectedly in my dreams and im now 45 😆 it scared the living shit out of us both and the scene where Myers shows up and sticks that scalpel into the nurses back and lifts her up made me jump out of my seat and I threw my popcorn all over the place. 😆 I was having lunch with my mom last week and she brought up the fact that she couldn't believe that my uncle took us to the movie and when she found out because when I got home that evening I couldn't sleep with the light off and I was scared shitless and asked if I could sleep in the couch and watch tv upstairs with the lights on because being down stairs that night in my room was not happening. She was pretty pissed 😆 but after getting scared like that it made me become obsessed with watching scary movies and growing up in the 1980s was the best time to watch horror movies. I went to do many cool horror movies at the theater and if I wasn't able to see them in the theater we could ride our bikes to the video store and rent them. Bummer that we got to wait but I think it will be worth it. Jesus i wrote a freaking novel. Bit that was the first horror movie i saw in the theater. Halloween II it at the time fucked me up but the next movie that just destroyed me later that year was Friday the 13th part 2. Sack head Jason was Badass and I have the original theater poster in my man cave signed by Warrington Gillette.
I had a similar experience with sleepaway camp. Although the movie itself was not scary,the ending traumatized me for a few years until I saw it again at 8 years old (I was 5 when I first watched it) Like you though,getting the bejeezus scared out of me from a creepy ending giving me nightmares opened my love and appreciation for horror movies. Although I'd seen a few horror movies prior sleepaway camp is what made me had love for the genre.

When did they show Michael cutting the pumpkin in the opening? I always just assumed it was just for effect. Then the first scene is a woman cutting a pumpkin with her kids.

I have that exact Halloween orange cassette set! It came with a keychain and a mini pamphlet insert... My friend gave it to me for my 18th birthday! I watched it over and over, I'm surprised the tape didn't snap!
My two favorite beefcakes are back at it again! Gotta be Halloween 1978’s opening for me. Just something about it gives me nostalgia. Then again, it could be because my mother used to watch it ad nauseam when I was a kid and when she was pregnant with me. Side note: Keep kicking ass, take names, and remember to lotion up. Dry skin is a pain. Cracked bleeding skin is a nightmare. Treat yo self!
H4 set the ultimate atmosphere with that opening. Incredible. Nostalgic for H5 as that was my first theater experience for my 11th birthday (thanks mom for indulging my love for 80s horror). If I want to do 2 miles on the treadmill, I pop in Resurrection and don’t even have to look at the time (for 3 miles, F13 remake opening is perfect).

Halloween 4 has maybe the best intro. It had the best fall feeling, and the images on the farm felt cold, and eerie, along with the music. Are the orange VHS tapes the halloween 6 producer's cut? I remember my first Ebay purchase in like 2002 or 2003 being that tape.

The opening credits for the HALLOWEEN series has always been something to look forward to when watching them on the big screen. I like 4's opening, the atmosphere and eery music. BUT...I was extremely disappointed watching it in 1988. Felt it should've been closer to the style of H1 and H2. So imagine the jubilee I felt watching H40 on the big screen.
I was actually expecting part four to take the top spot. I'm not sure if you can really count the pumpkin skull in the part two opening as part of your decision, as it happens after the title appears. Your rules, not mine!

That's how I judge them when the main first scene is over. I feel the list would be different and more fun. Would be cool if you guys revisit this and rank them that way.
I was 11 when Halloween 4 came out. And being an 11 year old, I HATED the fact that the movie's opening was the way it was! No Halloween theme over a black screen and pumpkin kinda pissed me off.... As I've gotten older though, I do realize what they were trying to do, and I do really LOVE the imagery and the atmospheric, kinda ghostly sound of the H4 theme....
