With a quite grotty , rusty tank on my Yamaha rebuild I've been searching for a UK based video where English is spoken and everything used is available in the UK. And then this. Simple and to the point with no Hype or BS. Obsession Engineering eh! great every time.

There’s an air gap at the top of the tank. Vinegar won’t touch the patch of metal just by filling up the tank. You have to turn upside down to get to it. Laid a thick blanket (folded over several times over a 5 gallon bucket and set the tank on it upside down to get to this patch of metal.
Vinegar is cheap but slow and literally eats the rubber gaskets on the triumph tank as well as the plastic on the tank lid. I use metal rescue metal bath. Works very fast. Won’t hurt paint or rubber. Rinsed out with ethanol free fuel then filled up. The Triumph (and any other in tank fuel pump setup) also has rubber hoses etc in the tank that vinegar will eat.
I used layers of Teflon tape with silver (shiny) air conditioner duct sealing tape over the teflon tape and not a drop came out of the connections under the tank when filled.

To prevent flash rust you can use rubbing alcohol or metal etching - the latter is what bodywork folks use.

WARNING I used the same method for de rusting my tank , vinegar and galvanised chain as a agitator, within half an hour the tank was bubbling like crazy. Turns out that the mixture of vinegar and galvanizing creates HYDROGEN !! whoops ,could have been nasty. as a positive the chain came out as bare clean metal. Another use for vinegar ( apart from putting on your chips) is to test if a metal is aluminium or magnesium ? scratch clean apply vinegar if it bubbles its magnesium,no reaction aluminium.

stones collected at a beach river nearby 🤔 ...isn't a plastic replacement for this date of build ?

The one pint tank sealer,16 fluid ounce? Pretty sure it’s 20 fluid ounce, 🤔. Just saying, lol.

I thought the 400 tanks were aluminium like the RC45 obviously not no..?? 😳

Definitely not aluminium. That'd be a bit pricey for a 'budget' little bike
