    I have a '98 TJ and the installation was exactly like this. I had to cut (with some metal shears, which was difficult - I wish I had been able to use my rotary cutter as shown in this video) the metal strip to make the speaker magnets fit, so thanks for showing that or I would have been mighty surprised. :)
    Also, the previous owner had installed aftermarket 4x6 speakers, and modified the wiring harness right before each speaker to include an inline 99 microfarad "bass blocker" capacitor that eats everything under ~400Hz. The 5.25" speaker is a coaxial tweeter and woofer so it can handle 60Hz and up, and doesn't need the bass blocker. I removed it when doing this install (cut it out & soldered the wire back so there's just wire and the connectors, but no more capacitor). It sounds great! Lots of low end and low mids.

    I just did this on my 98 TJ with a mini hack saw, took 30 minutes to cut out both pieces of metal. In fact, I installed my entire double din / rear camera system upgrade in about 6 hours yesterday, spent $700 in parts/tools and saved $1000 in labor (that's what Car Toys wanted to charge me to do this). I also upgraded my sound bar speakers to 6.5 inch Polks.

    For my 06 you do not need to dremel/cut anything. Fits right up!

      I’ve got a 2006 tju
      So all I need is the brackets and no alterations to the Jeep at all for the 5 1/4 speakers in the front

      Sure does! No cutting required on the 2006.I didn’t notice your comment until after I finished. What a breeze!

    Thanks for the vid! Dremel definitely makes the cutting easier. I used the 5.25 speaker as well. I’m assuming you didn’t put that foam piece back?

    I’m wondering if poly fill would make it sound better.

      I had stuffed the area with poly but did not notice a difference. I'm also not running high quality audio components.

      Polyfill wouldn't make any difference unless you had already established a solid (resistant to flexing and vibration) and airtight or nearly airtight enclosure behind the magnet, and then the polyfill would probably still not be doing enough to notice a difference unless you had hella good speakers hooked up to an amp. Even then it likely wouldn't offer enough benefit to be worthwhile, especially in a noisy ass TJ.

    I don’t see the link for the bracket… can someone repost please

      Looks like that link may have been taken down. Here is similar: www.amazon.com/1997-2006-Jeep-Wrangler-Speaker-Adapters/dp/B017DIMSDI/ref=sr_1_2?crid=18D5EMLE1PN78&keywords=Jeep+5.25&qid=1654121496&sprefix=jeep+5.25%2Caps%2C120&sr=8-2

    Did you notice a big difference in sound? Is it worth it?

    • @therainfalled
      @therainfalled  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not significant in my case, but i'm also not running any major sound system like amps and subs with pricey speakers. I'm sure with the right stuff it could help.

      @@therainfalled thanks I'll just leave it as it is..I only got a 2 channel amp the sub is the only thing hooked up the other speakers sound pretty good just being powered by the kenwood deck big difference from the stock set up

    any problem with the AC vent behind the speaker that gave you problems? any solutions?

    • @therainfalled
      @therainfalled  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sabino Hdz not with mine. the plastic vent, if that's what you are talking about, is close to the metal. I was just careful to cut. no interference with my speakers

    • @sabinohdz6759
      @sabinohdz6759 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Damn my speakers magnet hits on the vent behind it. Not letting the speaker adapter set in right.

    did the 5.25 speaker sound much better than the after market 4x6? prior owner on my jeep put in after market Memphis audio 4x6 speakers so wondering if its work the 5.25. i know many say the 5.25 is better than the factory 4x6 speakers but wondering about after market 4x6 speaker if worth upgrading to 5.25. thanks

      Honestly, i'm no audio expert. I put them in cause my neighbor who was in car audio said they would be better. I had 4x6 Kicker RS prior (shown in video) and went to some 5.25 DLS. They are very clear. The only thing lacking in my jeep now is the sub for the lows.

    did you need a wire harness or did it work out fine?

    • @therainfalled
      @therainfalled  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      no wire harness for me. just power/ground connection

    could you somehow bend the curved metal piece out of the way, lack of equipment means I'll probably do that with a hand saw so dont want to make the extra cut if i dont have to

    • @johnpasierbowicz
      @johnpasierbowicz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, because there's a glove box in the way, it's best to just get it out of there. I used the same hand/hack saw method and it took 30 minutes and a bruised knuckle...
