  • In this guided exercise, Dr. Kate Truitt begins by asking us to gently breathe in, placing a hand on our chest as we inhale and exhale. She then asks us to check in with our body, noticing where we feel relaxed and where we feel stressed. How’s our pinky? If it’s feeling calm, she asks us to welcome in that energy.
If we have an area of stress or discomfort, she invites us to bring our attention towards that. Then we gently imagine setting that down somewhere in the room, observing it and then welcoming in havening touch. She then asks us to imagine a staircase in this room, where each step we take is creating space from this discomfort.
At the top of the staircase, we can see an expansive magical place like an ocean or a field. She asks us to identify five colors present in this space as we scan the horizon of this environment. Once we’ve found the color we like best, Dr. Kate invites us to welcome that beautiful, calming color to expand its energy within us. What is the name of this color? Can we invite that energy into our heart? Into our being?
How is the uncomfortable feeling we placed in front of us doing? What information and data can we gather? She invites us to introduce this discomfort and this calm color energy. We can help these discomforts by meeting them with love and understanding.

I know about somatic practice but never fully immersed in it. I was having a bit of a spiral this morning regarding health or body worries (in a bit of a hypochondriac way) and clicked through numerous meditations until I settled on this one. I did not expect it to make me sob. I'm sitting here with my headphones on, a lump in my throat, and tears just pouring out. It feels involuntary but necessary. I especially felt that I really need to practice mercy with myself when you mentioned how those worries sitting on the side are just me trying to do my best to keep myself and my body safe. I just want to live in peace and worry-free knowing I'm doing the best I can, that it's not always perfect, but that it's enough to help my body survive and even thrive one day.

Thank you for sharing such a profound and personal experience with the meditation. Somatic practices can often bring unexpected emotions to the surface, as the body holds and expresses what sometimes words cannot. 💗 You are not alone in your journey and please remember to be kind with yourself. Sending you much warmth, strength, and healing ❤️❤️‍🩹❤️
