Oh my this brings back so many good memories. My Mom is German. My Dad met and married her in Germany when he was in the military. She continued all of the wonderful German traditions throughout our childhood. Christmas stollen, marzipan, and liebgucan were all enjoyed in our home. My Mom made the best Christmas cookies from scratch too. She is now 88 yrs old with Dementia but she was the best Mom ever and the memories live on with us!

What a lovely feeling to hear Joerg sing such a worldwide Christmas song in the German tradition. I am African American and I love that we can celebrate Christ and Christmas in so many wonderful ways. This so reminds of my Mom and I decorating the tree and the smell of delicious food, dad and I singing Christmas carols, family and friends honoring God, giving thanks for our blessings and of course blessing others. Danke!

I loved that Joerg breaks out in spontaneous dance. My dear sweet late husband was notorious for swirling you into dance at the drop of a hat. Many times our whole family would have a dance fest at some random rest stop. He left us seven years ago but he left us with so many wonderful memories. He also loved stollen every year that we had to hunt down at either World Market or Trader’s Joe. After watching you make one, I wish I would have tried my hand at it. I still might in his honor. 😊

My mother discovered Stollen in the early 60s, it came from a rather smart bakery in my home town in Yorkshire, it always had marzipan through the centre. We loved it so much, it never lasted long! You have evoked a very happy memory, thank you both.

Hello Kirsten and Joerg!! I absolutely love German stollen! I've never made it before, though. My husband is Swiss German, so I'm learning how to make authentic German food. I made schnitzel and a delicious cucumber salad with dill, sour cream, heavy cream and lemon, etc., last night. My next recipe is spaetzle. I even bought a spaetzle maker. I adore German food.

Kirsten & Joerg. I really like stollen we get it from a local German bakery. My Father used to make German fruit cake Obstkuchen for Christmas. He would make it about four weeks ahead and it would sit in the refrigerator till Christmas. Every week he would pour some brandy on it. I really miss him and his cooking and baking. 🇩🇪🎄❤ cheers Ron.

I grew up with all these German sweets.
My Balkan aunt used to live in Munich for 42 years, and she used to send us huge care packages for Christmas with marzipan, lebkuchen, rum kugeln, Mozart kugeln, Christ stollen, spekulatius, chocolates, Christmas chocolate ornaments and tons of other Christmas related things.
Luckily, times have changed, and we have all of those things down here as well, so I don't need to wait anymore :)
Also, I like to make Christmas sweets, so before Christmas, my mom and I bake all sorts of cookies, mostly old traditional German recipes.

I LOVE marzipan! I bought a German stollen at Aldi last week here in the US. I haven't cut into it yet but it has marzipan ❤ Your traditional Christmas cake sounds like the fruit cake my mom made when I was growing up in England. She made it weeks before Christmas, covered it in cheesecloth and regularly poured brandy over it. It was then covered with marzipan and royal icing. We don't have Lidl but we buy German sweets at Aldi.

My mother used to bake Stollen every year and not just one or two, but a dozen of them, and they were rather large. She used a large plastic baby tub, to prepare the dough in. Her recipe, which was an original Dresden recipe where Stollen originated, was made with yeast and she soaked the raisins in rum overnight. Because she made so many of them and it would have taken forever to bake all of them one by one, we used to take the prepared dough to our local baker on the sled and we would pull the sled to him, so they could bake them all at once in their huge oven for us. These are fond memories for me.

When I was growing up, my grandmother (whose father was Swiss French and her mother from Acadia in Maine) always made stollen at Christmas- and several loaves at that! We saved it for Christmas morning, nice and fresh and we toasted it on the later days and swirled it with butter. I can still taste it, too! When I was very ill - several times over the past ten years - I wished she would ascend from Heaven and make me stollen or Parker House rolls. She could have cured me far faster than modern medicine! She was a fabulous cook and baker and there was love in everything she made. Thank you so much for sharing this lovely tradition...❤

It is even more delicious that way. I loved your outtakes too! My mother used to hum that tune that Joerg was humming as you danced. My mother, whose maiden name was Bach, would often hum that. Interesting to learn how to make Stollen. Although it’s not my favourite, it was a pleasure to learn and to watch you both. I prefer the Kletzen or Birnen/Früchtebrot it‘s traditional in Liechtenstein. The outtake was hilarious 😂 and the festive teapot gorgeous. Thank you 💕

Love this video! Your outtakes are so cute! I've seen Stollen sold in the German city Frankenmuth which I would visit about a month before Christmas, but never did try. This recipe looks easy, so I'll have to try it.

    Dear Mr. & Mrs.
We recognize all those products from Germany at the end, as we use to get them from Santa 🎅 in our stocking, when we use to go to 🇩🇪 Germany at 🎄 Christmas.

Amazing, I love Stollen, but we always buy it. But ill definitely try making this. Family recipes are great. I still use my family recipe from my grand parents for Christmas Pudding and its so much better than shop bought. But like stollen it has to be made in advance so the flavour matures.

Loved the video! I. too. come from a military family that spent 3 years in Germany in the 1960s. After returning to the states, my parents would buy Stollen at Christmas. Brings back fond German Christmas memories. Thanks!

For anyone by who can’t find stollen with marzipan ; Morrisons sainsburys and Ocado ( marks and Spencer’s ) usually do quite good ones. Not authentically German but very similar. We love Christmas but have to have the German treats too, as my dad was in national service in Germany for three years in the 1950’s and he always loved the German Christmas treats too. Thanks for sharing your recipe. 😊

Oh this is our favorite at Christmas!! I love you made it.. and the dancing was a sweet bonus!!❤❤ Every Christmas my Mom would make Stollen and I remember her storing it in the attic! My Dad would tease her for a little bit of it before it was “seasoned” ! Thanks for this sweet memory.. love the cookies too.. we have a great German store in Cleveland where we can buy them! Your entire video is so happy and makes for a delightful time spent online with you both! Best wishes!! 🥰🎄

We popped into Lidl today for the lebkuchen assortment and spiced biscuits. They didn't have much stollen and none with marzipan, so hopefully Aldi will have some. Christmas isn't Christmas without the German treats.
