Love the new decor! In New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, at Cafe du Monde in the French Quarter, they serve Beignets and coffee with chicory. Their beignets remind me of your German treat. The difference seems to be that Cafe du Monde rolls & cuts their dough. They are so yummy! Have fun! God bless

My mother used to make something similar. The actual recipe is called Drop Doughnuts, but she came across the recipe around the time Russia launched Sputnik. Since the dough forms all kinds of weird spike-like shapes when you drop them in the oil she called them “ Sputniks” because the satellite had spikes. Gosh, I haven’t made them in years, mainly because the recipe makes too many and the house smells like oil for the rest of the week. But boy, are they good, especially fresh from the fryer!

I adore the hot air balloon!! It is perfect with the wallpaper and the print....makes me smile. The sweet treats looked delicious. My grandmother would add extra eggs to a pancake mixture and fry the dropped dough. Your cooking made me feel her love. Thank you.

These seem similar to cake donuts in the USA, that is, donuts made without yeast. Pennsylvania Germans make "fastnachts", or potato donuts, for the day prior to Lent, "fat Tuesday". They are delicious but best eaten quickly.....we'd put them in a paper bag with confectioner's sugar and shake the bag to coat. Others would cut them in half and spread the halves with table syrup; would you call that treacle in the UK? Fastnachts are a very traditional donut to the PA Germans. They always remind me of early spring.

My mother used to make the same treat. We called them mice in German as the shapes looked like them and even had tails. The fresh batches never lasted long.

Awwe ❤️ ... in Portugal we also make those for Christmas !!! We eat them lightly coated with powdered sugar and cinnamon or with a light sugar sirup, flavored with a cinnamon stick and lemon zest! We call them Sonhos, witch means "Dreams", probably because they turn so airy and fluffy. I always make my grandma's recipe ☺️. Your home is turning lovely.
I love the Laura Ashley hanging light and the wallpaper. The floral pattern is very graceful and is not too much. You two have a good sense of color and of matching colors. Everything blends together nicely for a tastefully decorated and restful home.

I loved everything you've done ! Joerg's barometer looks very elegant and the ship pictures look perfect with it . I especially love the red ship picture in the hallway . If I were a guest upon walking into the guest room that hot air balloon would instantly make me smile . The rose really makes the chandelier stand out , just gorgeous ! I can't wait to see it all finished ( great job on the wallpaper Joerg ) . We call that dessert cream puffs in Canada , often filled with cream or dipped in chocolate . These seem similar to cake donuts in the USA, that is, donuts made without yeast. Pennsylvania Germans make "fastnachts", or potato donuts, for the day prior to Lent, "fat Tuesday". They are delicious but best eaten quickly.....we'd put them in a paper bag with confectioner's sugar and shake the bag to coat. Others would cut them in half and spread the halves with table syrup; would you call that treacle in the UK? Fastnachts are a very traditional donut to the PA Germans. They always remind me of early spring.
