@Charlie Sipple I just haven't read or heard much positive about this particular model (EV model). From what I've read, doesn't work well as a work truck and especially towing. I don't have personal experience with this particular model truck, so he may have a great experience with it if he is just using it around town. I think my EV car works great for commuting and getting around town. Just not great for long distance or the cold winters where I'm at.
@@chameleonpogono fair enough, you did say “that F-150”. But the fact of the matter is no EV is going to tow well. Even standard 1/2 ton trucks (aka 1500s) lose about 50% of mpg when towing. Factor that into the efficiency drop a standard EV sees at highway speeds. Plus most half-ton/1500 truck drivers town a handful of times a year max, if at all. And most of the time in short trips. Thankfully, because towing on the interstate is way more dangerous than most people doing it know. Depending on what state you’re in and how far you typically commute, these electric mid-size trucks are perfect. Most contractor or work trucks work in a 50-150 miles radius, need a high payload capacity, need a durable be and decently high ground clearance.
I get the lightning purchase, but I think the powerboost (hybrid f150) would have made more sense with your location and at the current moment, with the electrical dilemma. With the powerboost you'd get a more useful truck (bed, towing, generator and mileage on tank) while getting about the same mpg as the ridgeline. Hope the lightning works out though.
I think it was more the toy tech aspect of it he couldn't resist. Everyone know's an ICE truck would be better, but the thought of getting the latest toy from Ford was too much for him to gloss over.
I had a Ridgeline and was towing my 19' aluminum Bass Tracker all over the area fishing. After a year or so, the transmission indicator started blinking (the 'D' light indicating it's in drive). I researched it and found it could be one of 300 things, most of which were expensive. It happened a second time while driving about 80 mph through some hills. That's when I decided it really wasn't truck I needed for my heavy foot. I traded it for an F-150 on the last day of 2016. I love the F-150. Zero issues. I tow my boat, camper, and haul dirt with my utility trailer. The back seat area has so much room, I use it as my portable bike workshop so I can fix it on the trail.
Went from something that is called a “not a truck” and in to something else that’s probably even worse “not a truck”. I wish you the best, for towing batteries notoriously lose power faster. I look forward to see how it works out for you.
Nice truck! Just keep in mind that you're still going to be highly limited in towing and hauling, just in a different way. Based on testing from various sources, you're likely to only see 110ish miles of range depending on the weight of the tow/haul.
Seth, I think your RC truck addition has gotten a bit extreme. In all seriousness, congrats on the new truck! My first guess from the video title was a Gladiator
That cab is so high. You probably wouldn't be able to see any person, animal, or object shorter than the hood that's within 5 to 8 meters of it. That's scary.
Guess I'm kind of a truck guy - but we have a Pilot and if I were shopping for a pickup, I think the Ridgeline would be a contender. Lightning is an extremely compelling package and I think probably better suited for what you put the Ridgeline through. Please keep us posted with ownership updates!

Was really pumped when they announced this. Sadly very few were actually able to order it before they bumped up the MSRP 20k. The pro model was originally announced slightly below 40k. Now the same trim is over 60k. They tried to blame "supply issues" but no other EV's MSRP jumped up 50% so there is more to it than just supply chain issues. Either they purposely lied about the original price to drive up hype or they saw all the dealership markups and figured the market allowed for a much high sale price. Then they saw the new tax breaks and bumped it another 10k. it feels like a bait and switch job. I remember telling family members to wait a few months for ordering to open up only to look stupid when they announced the price hike before opening up orders. I was a big Ford fan and the entire practice has put me off the brand completely.
I for one am glad this is the direction you went. I work in landscaping, and I recently asked my boss if there's been any discussion among upper management about making the transition towards electric trucks. He and I both seemed to agree that the technology isn't quite there yet for our needs, but it's absolutely the long-term goal for my employer, and it might be sooner rather than later that we introduce one into the fleet to start testing the feasibility of it. I'm not a truck guy, in fact I'm not even a car guy. I'd love to live somewhere where I could rely entirely on public transit and bike lanes and just sell my damn car. But beyond personal use, big trucks do have their place for certain businesses, and I hope that eventually EV technology can serve that role. I'll be very interested to see your long-term review of this as an actual work vehicle, Seth.
The Rivian and Lightning both seem fine. They're both way too expensive in my opinion but given the costs of even fairly basic work trucks these days they're not outrageously overpriced in comparison, and at that price point I don't think I want to feel like they're just fine.
Congratulations on your new purchase, it’s a beautiful truck!! I personally tow a lot and have not felt comfortable enough to make the switch to electric. With that said I think the truck will be a perfect fit for you and look forward to seeing it put to work on your channel!!
That's a really cool truck! I was hoping you would get a Tundra but the Lightning is a fantastic option. Sad to see the Ridgeline go, I considered purchasing one because I saw it in your channel
Range anxiety is only a thing if you're going for long road trips and don't bother planning where to charge. If you just use it for daily commutes or you spend 5 minutes looking up chargers, it's a non-issue
You've done it Seth. You are officially one of those who are about to go to the dark side of the force. Hope you get what you want out of the EV system. (They need a good adjustment and most don't handle very well in snow without good tires.)
Most midsize trucks are not be designed to be pushed to over max capacity often, will burn the transmission out. After owning several Fords myself, I will say though coming from Honda you're going to be disappointed with the quality and service you get with Ford.. my personal my personal choice for full-size would've been tundra V-8. It's always fun to have the latest and greatest, but not when it ends up sitting in the shop more than your driveway.
@TypicalBlox yes i have. I Have seen that thing have a hard time doing a 100-mile round trip. That was towing a car and he only had to tow the car one way.

@@Perforator2000 it depends. Out here in CA there are chargers nearly everywhere. I drove from San Francisco to San Diego in my Tesla and didn't really feel too inconvenienced. The hotel I stayed at had chargers too so it helped
I thought it would be a rivian but you’ve somehow been able to get something truck owners hate more😂 good job
YEEEESSS!!!! as a dude that has grown up with Ford vehicles, your choice warms my heart.
weak
Don't be afraid to use it like a truck!
I would be scared. When towing the range is terrible.
@@323johnnybravo Seth isn’t going to be towing stuff 100+ miles. For Berm Peak to the lumber yard, I doubt it’s more than 50 miles, round trip …
@@puckcoach3 lols even that might be too far for a lightening. He better get a gas generator for it.
I haven't finished watching it yet but haven't you seen the Hoovies garage video on this thing towing haha
the ridge line will be missed. as much as people busyed balls, you used a tool that was *almost* was perfect for the job. it was perfectly in character for this channel.
So I understand that the ev F150 isn’t for every one, but I see why it fits perfectly into your lifestyle. You don’t need the capability of a truck every day, but you need something to be there when you do need it, and the lightning fits that niche perfectly
My Lightning is getting built right now. This was a hilarious surprise to see you got the same truck as I'm getting. Congrats!
Congratulations on the lightning! That charger you visited seems much friendlier than others out there. Be warned others aren’t as easy!
Be interesting to see how you feel about after 6+ months. I haven't heard much positive about that F150. I think for being around town, you will be fine. Just don't tow a camping trailer with it and expect to get far with it. I have an EV car and they are great for commuting and running errands. Long distance and/or cold winters, not so much.
That's because negativity/drama is more viral
@@katydid5088 Seth lives in Asheville, not Alaska lmao. Sure, it gets chilly in Asheville, but the average temp doesn't really stay below freezing often. I think he'll be fine.
Best selling vehicle in America for over 40 years straight, but you haven’t heard much positive about it…? C’mon man
@Charlie Sipple I just haven't read or heard much positive about this particular model (EV model).
Dosnt matter the vehicle, all that matters is your doing what you love and always improving 👌🏼🙏
Seth, I think your RC truck addition has gotten a bit extreme.
In all seriousness, congrats on the new truck! My first guess from the video title was a Gladiator
Honestly, if there was no battery problems and a work truck spec lightning I might consider one
Hell yeah. The lightning is awesome and it makes a lot of sense for your use case!
I personaly think this was a great choice, I never thought that seth would buy a ford and I respect him that much more now!
keep doing what your doing
That cab is so high. You probably wouldn't be able to see any person, animal, or object shorter than the hood that's within 5 to 8 meters of it. That's scary.
What a service for Ford and for EVs in general that you are doing.
From a 2005 Tacoma owner, I’m hoping your truck lasts as long as mine does 👍🏼
it wont its a ford
a 2003 tacoma is so much better than what eves this ev truck is, good luck with your taco!
@@RideAdrenalineMx We'll have to see about that. Rust stops for no man.
As someone who drive a regular pick up the F-150 lightning is a sick truck man great choice
Love my Ridgeline as a very light duty pickup. Takes me and my stuff to where I want to go.
Guess I'm kind of a truck guy - but we have a Pilot and if I were shopping for a pickup, I think the Ridgeline would be a contender. Lightning is an extremely compelling package and I think probably better suited for what you put the Ridgeline through. Please keep us posted with ownership updates!
Get a Tacoma instead, they get better gas millage, while being more capable and they have 4x4. They also hold their value far better
dude, just be happy, we love your content, even if this is a mistake, its a fun mistake, just like crashing funny, it still fun and useful to learn from. You are more trustworthy than most reviewers so yeh, your opinion has value, not just in the mountain biking community, bu also everything you touch, my favourite random crazy stuff you did is the whole toy car thing that went offroad hahahahaha so funny
Great move Seth !!! I'm from Argentina, with relatives in Atlanta, one day I will pass thru Berm Peak to say Hi !
You know I am a truck/car guy and I really do not mind the lighting I have seen them before and they look nice . Oh and welcome to the ford family.
@Censorship rules Served Seth for 6 years seemingly well, so how bad can they really be?
It seems like it’s been “not quite there” for a long time.
Can't wait to see the next video about this truck! Wanna see what you think about it after owning it for a while.
Been watching your channel for a while now and I’m so happy to see you get a Ford
That's a really cool truck! I was hoping you would get a Tundra but the Lightning is a fantastic option. Sad to see the Ridgeline go, I considered purchasing one because I saw it in your channel
I can’t believe he survived 85 AND 285. Especially with all the construction. That’s a feat on par with the White Line.
It’s somewhat known that the range decrease to about 80miles when towing anywhere near its capacity. Wishing you luck with your new truck
that's a very nice truck.... i love trucks but not yet ready to give up my V8 HEMI 5.7L the roar and rumbling sound feeds my soul.
Just as everybody has an opinion on the Ridgeline, everybody will have one about the Lightning.
Great looking car, wish you safe miles!
Thats still a real truck. Great buy! Coming from a sierra 2500 diesel owner
The new ridgelines come with a 9 speed auto and a transmission cooler to prevent overheating. I think a new ridgeline would've been the better buy 😊
Welcome to the wonderful new world of range anxiety.
Hahaha, I was thinking "he's getting the lightning and I'll be super jealous!" Here we are. Congrats! I wanted that truck.
Love my F150! Not sure I could deal with the lack of reliable chargers though..
It’s so weird to see Seth angry 😅6:49
Yeah, that seemed like genuine rage for just an instant.
Congrats, awesome truck. Hope it holds up well. Will be interesting to see how your thoughts revolve when the cybertruck rolls out.
I’ve had a Rivian R1T for almost 2 months now and I think about it like you talked about your Lightning. I hope you like it as much as I like mine.
That's a sweet truck. If it has the extended battery range it can go 0-60 in 4 sec!!!
Electric is a great concept and they’re nice vehicles, really interested to see how much charge it loses pulling trailers and what not. Nice ride 👍🏼
Will Prowse took his back because it was a complete failure.
They loose a lot!
@@tabcobra learn how to spell before you talk
It's not gonna be pretty. Batteries just don't have the needed energy density for towing.
And there's always the issue of lithium battery fires, which can only be extinguished by water submersion...
it'll be nice to see a video in a year or two telling us how good/bad it is at actual truck stuff.
Have you seen how horrible the range is while towing?
Have you seen where he said he doesn't go far even when towing with the ridgeline?
@TypicalBlox yes i have. I Have seen that thing have a hard time doing a 100-mile round trip. That was towing a car and he only had to tow the car one way.
This is somehow worse
Got mine delivered on January and it’s been amazing.
Wise choice! You will be the pride of the Prius community 🤣🤣Congratulations!!! Kidding, of course.
“Truck people” seem like a bunch of snowflakes if they get angered by your choice of car 😂
Truck people are truck people because they need a vehicle that is tough and can do real work. We get pissed when fake trucks try to look like trucks but can’t actually do real work. The Lightning and Ridgeline are the transgenders of the truck world.😂
@@75burbguy Ford F-150s are one of the bestselling vehicles in the US. Selling over 640k units in 2022 alone, most of which I bet were sold to people who live in suburbs and use them to buy groceries with.
I highly doubt all those brand new Ford F-150s you see cruising along with clean beds and mint tailgates will ever be used for "truck" things. "Truck People" are usually just people who use their big truck to inflate their egos and endanger pedestrians.
Just my take.
@@aelxxs I agree mostly. I own a F-150 and it use it for work. Seth bought a vehicle that in most cases is a very poor choice for a work vehicle. The Lightning target demographic is exactly those you spoke of, those who buy a truck, but will never use it for work.
Should make for great frustrated TH-cam content.🤪
stop scaring with the "saying goodbye" dawg I thought your dog died again
I never thought I would say this, but I miss the Ridgeline now
The same price you paid for that lightning you could've gotten a Chevy trailboss/desert boss with a turboed 4cyl loaded. I just got one myself. Ford dealer near me wanted 10k more for the lightning so I went to a Chevy dealership got a 11k discount on the trailboss Colorado and I'm good now.
I personally think if you’re the type of person to shit on someone else’s success then you deserve nothing yourself. Knowing you bought a Ford lighting made me excited and happy and it’s not even mine! People will hate, people will be jealous.
I'm definitely excited to see your review after a while! Looks like a sweet truck.
Good luck! I hope your towing experience isn't as bad as most people have been reporting
Good luck going over 100 miles towing your camper
Can't wait for a three month review. I had both a lightning and R1T preorder and went with the R1T, and it fits myself and my needs.
Congratulations dude! Welcome to the truck family
LOL, sorry Seth, I wish you the best with the lightning.... quality issues galore.
Honda's Ridgeline and Ford's Sport Trac reminded me of 4 door El Caminos for the modern age. I enjoyed my Sport Trac but haven't had a Ridge Line yet.
My initial guess was a rivian but this is probably a better choice for you! Can't wait to see how this works for you. Good choice!
I love that you had original Crud Cloths in your Ridgeline.
I’m confused, I’ve been a “truck guy” most of my life and am happy you have a truck that works for you. Even more, it’s a free country, buy what works for you
Those headlights are insane. Newer trucks/suvs blind the fck out of people. I now drive my car with headlights on high beam permanently and no one can tell. I've never been flashed.
Also, on the charging stuff.. Technology Connections does a good video on the infrastructure
Sweet! I own a Rivian and absolutely love it. For me, an electric mid sized truck is perfect. I only tow occasionally and never really load much of anything other than mountain bikes and some home depot runs
