Come on dude, they had a good reason for that... Most of them are white dudes and the remaining cost too much money... Now you see how it makes sense now... Don't worry, you just don't have big brains like Disney... That's why you're not succeeding with the same speed Disney is succeeding and with that mindset, I hope you never will... People like you just like merit and quality like some sort of fascist... Smh...
The Villain is the good guy, he is right though: It's his magic and at the end of the day some wishes should not be granted since some of them are downright evil or terrifying and will endanger his kingdom. And some of these people don't need wishes granted, they just need to learn and practice instead and they will be able to make their own wishes come true with hard work. And the Grandfather's wish is so bland and just very undefined that you can't grant that wish,' I want to inspire the young' yeah okay, inspire them how or to do what? It is never stated, inspire them to overthrow the Kingdom maybe? The King has to grant wishes which will benefit the Kingdom, the Kingdom he made and people live peacefully and safely in as well, he don't even charge them rent.
And yet people will insist he's evil because how dare he keep wishes that can't be granted - the same wishes that the people made because they lacked the ambition to make their own wishes come true.
@@Kyle-sr6jm I feel like that's maybe the worst example you could've gone with? For a lot of reasons mind you, but the most ironic one being that students and graduates do in-fact still have to pay rent, lol.
He’s also a bit benevolent in the fact that he can make people forget their wishes like what if some one goes I wish to murder my whole family, I would be like yeah your not remembering you ever wished for that too.
Your ranting made me remember: over the weekend I showed my son Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I’m an animator , illustrator, storyteller and he is aspiring to become likewise. He loved the movie. After it was over I explained to him the importance of set up and payoff, and went back to show him examples in the movie. And also the incredible total visual storytelling where we get the full backstory of Eddie and his brother by circling the desk at the beginning.

I didn't find out what happened to my who framed Roger rabbit tape until I was a teenager lol. I must have driven her halfway mad. I would much rather be driven insane by Roger rabbit than jersey shore though. My god that must have been torture.
Yep! Also bring back 2D animation! I am SICK of Disney constantly reusing Tangled’s artstyle and flat out refusing to change it for something else. I didn’t mind it up until Moana, and arguably Encanto did really great with Tangled’s style. But I am tired of the movies looking like you could easily put Rapunzel and Flynn or Elsa and Anna in it as part of the actual story and no one would be bothered by it because the world is designed to coexist with other movies. The Mickey Mouse short with the cameo including underrated movies was waay better because they kept true to each movie’s artstyle instead of trying to redesign all of them to make them more cohesive, similar to the Disney Princesses in the Wreck it Ralph sequel. I adore the scene, BUT I DESPISED they forcibly changed certain characters’ designs to make them fit the more cartoony style of Wreck It Ralph, especially Pocahontas, Cinderella and Jasmine
@@osets2117 Rapunzel was the first, and should have been the last. At least her behaving the way she had made sense, seeing as her only other social interaction before Eugene was with Mother Gothel and her lizard companion.
Agreed. This is why Wreck It Ralph is my favorite Disney Revel movie. It actually has characters that feel different and not look the same.(looking at you, Frozen, Moana, and Enconto)
I think the queen in this movie was originally going to be evil just like her husband, which feels like such missed potential. We could have had Disney's first villainous power couple! What A Waste! 😒
I like how they wanted it to look and feel like a 2d animated movie but just ended up making it look like a cheap and unfinished 3d animated movie that somehow cost more than both Spider verse movies.
And aren't even close to making back the money they spent on the movie/marketing (the film cost between $170/200 million to make, and they only made $49 million on their opening weekend).
@@madamefluffy4788 Is that including the early previews from the week prior? I heard those were being included in all the numbers for on Friday to boost the take, so the "first weekend" was really the "first week".
@@madamefluffy4788 This movie had marketing? Literally I haven't seen any actual ads for it since like, the first trailer. I didn't even know it was out until today when I saw a video complaining about the soundtrack.
Based on the synopsis, I assumed the villain would end up being an anti-hero/hero and the main character would learn and realise that not all wishes should be granted as not all wishes are pure/innocent, or something.
In a normal universe where the movie was made by people with working moral compass it would be a thing. But we are living in a reverse-verse where villains are more heroic or reletable than her-oes.
That would have actually been a good plot with a valuable message, a bit like Aladdin's dilemma. But modern Disney is much dumber and woker, so we get Wish instead.
The filmmakers confused wishes with aspirations or life goals. The whole point of the movie is that you have the power to make your dreams come true, but you’re right in that these wishes are very boring. If the king can grant any wish, where are the really crazy and interesting ones?
@@arkeshn729 I think some woman wished for that, but the king was like: How do I even grant that? I can't fly what makes people think I can make it so YOU can?

Wish had a production budget of at least $175 million. Klaus, which came out in 2019, had a budget of around $40 million, and has infinitely better story, characters, and overarching moral. You've got to do better Disney! You've got to step up!
How does Disney claim to "celebrate 100 years" of their animation history when Disney as a company is clearly ashamed of everything outside of the last 10 years?
@@giovannibermudezjr Disney putting disclaimers on their old content is so lame. People don't need Disney to shame us for liking their older, much better content.
Hans' heel turn, in retrospect, makes zero sense. His plan to rule Arendelle would have never worked, as he was never heir to the throne. Simply marrying the heiress wouldn't have worked. If Ana passed away, any power he may have had, passes with her. You would think a Prince would know this? Plus, he seemed genuinely infatuated with Ana at the start of the film. In fact, he gave a genuine smile of affection when no one else could see him. Secondly, if it was his plan all along to get rid of Elsa, then why didn't he eliminate her when she was attacking his men and threatening their lives? Heck, he even prevented an attempt on her life from succeeding when he stopped one of the Duke's men from hitting her with a crossbow. Still enjoyed Frozen, despite the obvious issues. Thoughts? P.S. Sorry for the essay.
You know what's ironic about the art style? Disney have actually done this 2D/3D mix before, and gotten it to work, in Treasure Planet - which is why, along with just being a great movie, it's now a cult classic. However, considering how much that cost to make, Disney actively decided to sabotage the movie (with poor marketing and putting it out at the same time as one of the biggest box office movies of the decade at the time - Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets), so that they wouldn't have to make a sequel. The fact that they tried to use the same kind of animation to create the movie meant to mark their 100th anniversary celebration - a movie they actively wanted to succeed - and not only did it not succeed, but they screwed up the animation techniques they refused to use and refine, is nothing short of karma as far as I'm concerned.
The hoverboard scenes in Treasure Planet are a 2D/3D mix using a custom software created for the tree sliding scenes in Tarzan. Disney's been able to do this blend right for a long time.
@@MrDj232 True, the idea was first displayed in Tarzan, and used again in multiple Disney projects (as has been listed already by other comments). But, to my knowledge, Treasure Planet is the only movie that uses the technique for the entire movie - hence why I compare it with Wish.

One of the sad parts is that Disney will only ever have one chance to celebrate 100 years of history. Even in the highly unlikely event of the woke being kicked out of Disney and the company going back to good stories and quality movies, their opportunity is still forever squandered.
You sound like someone who uses the term "woke" alot to describe just about anything you disagree with; Even if in this case your perspective was perfectly valid, it still not worth sounding like a cult member. Just call it what it was, like, "very lackluster" or "sub-par" and STOP using "Woke"!! I cant tell you how much i am beginning to hate hearing that buzzword nearly everywhere i go.
You know what's funny. Miyazaki's new film, The Boy and the Heron , apparently has callbacks to some of his past films---and according to people who have seen it said it was done so much better. @pennysanchez7656 I prefer Japanese version to the USA dub that’s been premiering. It’s more accurate to the vision. The voice acting is also wonderful as bonus. So yeah, agreed basically
Honestly, I'm glad that this year was the dark age for Disney. For years, they've been selfish and made stupid decisions. So it's about time they finally get their just desserts. It's called "karma".
Just desserts? Disney just announced to investors that they care more about DEI initiatives than actual profits, which invites more investments from elite globalists and government subsidies. It means they can let diversity hired fan-fiction writers run the show while they collect money from outside sources and effectively shun the American consumer.
Disney Producers: We want to make a movie to celebrate the accomplishments of Disney for the last 100 years, we were thinking maybe a simple story with various callbacks to previous films that people would recognize and enjoy. Kathleen Kennedy: That's well and good and all. But most importantly, you must put a chick in it, make her gay, and make it fucking lame as fuck.
Just based on your premise, how did they manage to make a villain easier to agree with than Thanos? So you’re telling me he gives them the chance to have their dream come true, and in return they live a life that feels fulfilled anyway because they no longer have the burden of the wish they can’t achieve? What???
Know what other movies use a combination of 2D and computer generated animation? Tarzan and Treasure Planet. Both are Disney movies that mostly looked good and blended the animation styles in a way that neither stood out.
When you mentioned how simplistic and achieveable through practice and hard work majority of the wishes were, it immediately brought me back to (spoilers) Puss in Boots: Last Wish - Puss didn't want die after squandering 8 of his 9 lives. Kitty wanted someone to trust. Goldie wanted a family. THOSE wishes hit hard because the characters themselves were so jaded and cynical to the point that the star itself is their last hope of getting something seemingly unattainable in their real lives, and the payoff of what they had gained at the end rounds everything up. Wish's wishes were just so bland! It sounded like what children would write down and wish for because they'd want immediate results instead of taking the long route and perfecting whatever skill they want to be good at! The grandpa wanting to inspire people through music? He can still move his fingers, why can't he just do that already? The dressmaker? Does she have any pre-existing skills for it? The "friend" who wanted to be a knight? Why didn't he just work for it?? This is Disney's 100th year, celebrating the wishing star...and a Dreamworks sequel to an existing franchise pulled it off better than this original story....just how can you fumble the bag THAT BADLY?
"Bruce Allmighty" did the wish thing right. Winning lottery by every participant showed what happens if all wishes are granted. Hell, even "Strange Magic" with its love potion rocked the subject. It unleashed so many disturbing images that even Markiz de Sade would blush.
Seriously I was shocked to see this channel had less than 200k subs. I really wish he gets like million, the quality in all the videos is great and consistent. Please subscribe this man deserves to be on par with Nerdrotic, Rippa and the Critical Drinker.
I thought of a plot in about 5 min which at least to me seems better than the actual Wish's plot. The king in order to grant wishes has to drain the power of some people's wishes in order to grant others, so that's why he collects all and only grants some. He grants the simple wishes and then uses the leftover power for himself, giving him whatever he desires and as no one remembers the wishes once they give them to the king this scam can continue. With the king's end goal being something like bringing his wife back from the dead or gaining a heir to the throne or just having power, you know bad guy stuff. So then the main character (or maybe a group of 2 to 3 for the extra merchandising opportunities as money) starts to think something is up as she has never gone to send a wish off to the king so she starts to put the pieces together that only the more simple wishes are being granted and this starts off the conflict. With the end goal being returning everyone's wishes or granting them with the power of the stars, haven't really thought that far ahead as this was just a nothing idea I had thrown together to put into a TH-cam comment.
Another plot idea. The king uses his own magic so the scale and number of wishes he can grant are limited. Asha wants to do more but she needs an outside power source. Going on a quest to acquire the power of a star, Asha casually grants wishes only to see that a vague or poorly worded wish can backfire. This teaches her the lesson that just because she can grant a wish doesn't always mean she should. When she finally reaches the star she can become the Blue Fairy and grant wishes without limit, but doing so requires giving up her old life. To fulfill her own wish she has to leave behind her family and friends forever. This would tie into the original concept of the film, provide even more opportunities for references to old movies, and have multiple valuable lessons for kids. The only downside is that there isn't really a central villain, but that's not really any worse than the villain this movie got.
How it started: “The origin for when you wish upon a star…” How’s it going: “Diversity Princess overthrows the sensible ruler of the kingdom.” You gotta love how this movie also inadvertently destroys KH’s lore, fans of that franchise are probably pissed about that too.
The implication that the villain is actually the Magic Mirror from Snow White, now with a body and the freedom to do what he wants, is a concept that deserved to be in a better movie.
The second movie of the Sumikko Gurashi franchise works on a very similar premise (of people not being "whole" without their wishes) and yet it is executed far more gracefully than this sad excuse of a film despite being essentially a kid's show where the only plot is cute animals doing cute things. The main cast when deprived of the memories of their wishes (by a well-meaning but inexperienced wizard), although no longer longing for something they cannot have, become flat and uninteresting characters. Seeing his friends lose their goals in life saddens Tokage, the only member in the main cast that hasn't forgotten what his wish is because he never tells the wizard about it; this prompts Tokage's attempt to remind them of what they once wanted, and the first friends to regain their identities, use their unique skills (such as painting and persuasion) to contribute to the saving of their other mutual friends. In reward of his care for his friends, near the end of the movie Tokage is granted a limited version of his wish: to reunite with his mother, even if only for 10 minutes. Despite this, Tokage thinks of it as a cherished memory that is more than enough to warm his heart through the rest of his life.
I think if having your wishes taken and not granted did more to show it was a bad thing (like if the people all felt and looked listless and grey) then it would feel more important to return them
4:40 I guess this is a meta message in which the creators of Wish accidentally admit that they don't believe in themselves and that they measure their worth on the paycheck that daddy Hollywood gives them.
7:11 it's a recent constant 😂 they try to make a vilain but he turns out to be a good guy in the eyes of normal people while their hero is almost insufferable, so they suddenly add some exaggerated evil caracteristics/actions to this character in the last part of the movie/serie. Also, it seems to be another movie made around the rehashed theme of "if all the wishes were granted, it would be bad" (Bruce Almighty, Wonder Woman 1984...)
Thing is, it wouldn't be hard to make him a villain and they somehow still fuck it up. I think the removing people's memories of their wishes to 'spare them the pain' part is bullshit, but like... Everyone involved is consenting to it. He doesn't trick people, he doesn't force them, having the wishes doesn't fuel his power (until after he's been corrupted), he's up-front and honest that giving him your wish will make you forget it and he decides if it's worth granting or not. Hell, when the main character tries to tell her grandfather about his wish, he straight up tells her that he doesn't want to know and agrees with the king's logic of not wanting to know about a wish that'll never be granted, only for her to say she's gonna steal his wish and give it back to him anyway.
😂 what if some of them....where actually kinda bad in some way, like if the king listens to someone's wish, he knows exactly what can happen uf he just grants it like ""I wish I was young again' basically can turn you into a baby, or it resets you life and your choices so if you git married and have kids, you undo those actions but thither person has no idea and they move on...so while the king seems like a bad guy, holding or stealing dreams and wishes , hes really sifting through the wishes to understand what they can do if they are granted.
@@TheFatalcrest It is why many TH-camrs are claiming the girl is the real villain in this movie. She is like a person walking into a nuclear reactor and claiming she can run it better than the people who have chased the power of the atom for years if not decades. In reality she has no idea what she is doing and too short sighted to see the evil that can be unleashed due to her short sightedness and lack of real world experience. This is the animated movie of what happens if you really follow what somebody like Greta Thunberg was preaching. Looks great on paper not so much in reality. Wish is no different. Just a bad concept in general that has no good message to deliver. No matter how you look at the movie, the conclusion you come to regardless of whose side you take is bad.
@@TheFatalcrest This is likely why he granted so few wishes - because he was weighing the pros and cons of each wish and the majority of the wishes were either vague, nonsensical or outright dangerous. Returning such wishes made no sense, because he wants his people to be happy and they can't be if they're left wallowing over something that can never happen. So, instead, he makes them forget the wish and they move on with their lives without knowing what they supposedly lost.
Side bar comment. But this isn't the first Disney Movie where the "good guys" were actually the villains. Take End Game as an example. All I ask is that you think it through. It was the wrong thing for all the right reasons. So five years have past. People have moved on with their lives. Businesses have collapsed. House market is gone. Food production and services have shrunk due to 1/2 the human population instantly gone. Then they magically reappear. The world is instantly thrown in famine as the world food production was decreased. People no longer have jobs. Their homes are gone. Their spouses likely remarried and started new lives. Kids were born. Family members passed on. You been declared dead so all your personal possession and financial accounts are gone. In short, you have nothing. And then there is the chance you would instantly die when you were brought back. Imagine you disappeared on a plane and then came back ... with no plane. People falling from the sky. That was one of my first things I noticed in this movie. Five years was too long. Bringing people back caused more problems than it solved. A better approach was to show that only days or a few weeks had passed. The world is still struggling with the concept of half the animal population on a planet disappearing instantly. You could bring people back and the impact of their return would be minimized.
The fact that Disney released a movie about a wishing star falling to earth, with a heavy Spanish flair, only one year after _Puss in Boots 2_ has me thinking this is ANOTHER case of Disney and Dreamworks “taking inspiration” from each other.
Not sure if you've heard this, but there were originally plans for the Star to have a human form so he could be Asha's love interest. Wonder why they shelved that idea...
Should have made it so Asha wanted to grant EVERYONE'S wish causing chaos. The King, in his Wisdom, knows how disastrous things will get if every wish was granted (see Bruce Almighty) so his refusal comes off as being "The Bad Guy."
The way it looks with the mix of hand drawn and computer animated, it looks the way animated movies do in the early stages of development. Like when they haven't finished the textures yet so things look too smooth or janky
I know at one point they had to outsource 2d animation because they no longer had anyone that could do it. Also, their recent firings won't do anything to help because they addressing the wokeness. Also, this king may have been selfish but wasn't he stopping chaos by not allowing everyone to have a wish. The movie makes it seem that they would all wish for simple things, but u know someone was going to wish harm on their neighbor or worse. I loved going to Disneyland but i just find it hard to want to support them in any way now.
Imagine if some of the wishes turned out to be selfish like a kid wanting all the candy in the world or someone wishing for peace and quiet from his neighbor but meaning they can't make any noise. Or maybe the king sees how petty and lazy the wishes are and simply refuses to grant them so that people would stop depending on wishes to solve their problems. Just blows my mind how far Disney of all people have fallen. It wasn't this bad back during the Disney Dark Ages.
Hell, a wish doesn't even need to be obviously dangerous to be potentially dangerous. Case in point - Asha's grandad's wish of wanting to inspire future generations. As Magnifico pointing out, it's an incredibly vague wish - as what does the grandfather mean by inspiring the youth? In what fashion?
Yep. This was great opportunity to show to the kids they can´t have everything they want because it is not possible and some wishes if fulfilled would end up badly. But no, the "moral" of this story is "It´s OK to be a narc, everyone is entitled to whatever they want."
I was thinking the same thing. He was smart to not grant every single wish because someone is bound to wish for something bad or dangerous. That's not evil, it's just being responsible. Even his reason for not granting the grandfather's wish made sense. You've got to be careful with magic like that. Like I said, he really didn't seem like that bad of a guy until the writers realized the movie needed a villain and forced him into that role.
@@thoriasunlimited4053 Or even just wishes that are at odds with each other, like two wishes for the same love interest or two wishes for both wanting to win a competition where granting one wish means not granting the other. It's like the writers never read _The Monkey’s Paw_ or something. What a way to bungle the possibility of a great premise.
It's all in the message, man. If you aren't getting what you want (a pair of scissors), it's because the king (government) isn't specifically granting your wish and therefore is oppressing you. It's not because you failed to go find some goddam scissors on your own. This looks like idiocy, but it's being done consciously and with intent.
The way I see those scissors, its just the king telling that person to start small like everyone else does, rather than wanting to take the whole world in just an afternoon, which sounds like a responsible way to approach her wish tbh
As always, watching trash so we don't have to, and entertaining us with your suffering. Thanks for the review :) Pity about the movie, I had a slight hope it was going to subvert expectations and show the king as right and brown Rapunzel as misguided and dangerously naive, given how the trailers made the king look, but it was just the woke fighting their war against common sense as usual.
Such a shame how Disney screwed up the animation style. Klaus used the same style I believe and it was beautiful! And Klaus was made by a more independent company. Too shame Disney! Too shame!
If anything this movie made me appreciate more Puss in Boots The Last Wish. Because it was basically the same but done better. There you have your true evil villain. There you have reality-warping wishes instead of just material goods. Could this king grant his 8 lost lifes to Puss? And there the wishes are way more varied instead of "I need thing" and the magic is basically limitless which is why the travel to the destiny is more important than the destiny itself.
How Wish Should Have Ended: Asha: "I'm going to make everyone's wishes come true." King Magnifico: "😒 Asha. You do realize that some of the citizens actually wished for evil things, right? There IS such a bad wish " Asha: "No, there's not. Everyone's dreams will come true." *People get killed left and right, houses are destroyed by arsonists, rich people keep stealing money from the poor, children are kidnapped by "Mr. Bad Touch", animals are offed by people who hate them, etc.* King Magnifico: "😒 What were you saying about there being no such thing as a "bad" wish?" Asha: *deeply regrets this* "😰 Uhhhhhh..oops."
Disney has become the new Hanna-Barbera. At one time they were one of the masters of animation, but their work has become cheap, generic looking, not interesting and just plain dumb.
This film had a reported production budget of $200 million. That means its break-even box-office gross is over $400 million. It has currently grossed around $49 million worldwide.
I accounted for that, yes. Studios don't generally publish films' marketing budgets, but the general rule of thumb is that they are approximately half that of the production budget. So the total cost would have been about $300 million. Studios also negotiate different deals with movie theaters about how to split the box-office revenues, although the general rule of thumb is that between fifty to seventy percent goes to the studio. Foreign theaters tend to get a better deal than domestic theaters, and the theater's percentage usually rises over time. Consequently, a ticket sold here is worth more to the studio than one sold abroad, and one sold on opening is worth more than one sold a month or two later. But given that Disney, even now, has a lot of leverage with the theaters, we can probably assume a high percentage for Disney, so probably close to seventy percent. $300 million is about seventy percent of $430. That's how I arrived at the "over $400 million" figure quoted above. The general rule of thumb is often stated that a film needs to earn twice its production budget to break even at the box office. Of course, that is making the most favorable assumptions: only fifty percent of the production budget spent on marketing, and the studio getting seventy percent of the box office. If the studio spends more on marketing or gets a smaller cut of the box office, the situation begins to look worse for the studio. @@hellopumpkin86
I have no intention of wasting money watching this movie - but from what I've seen (via clips) and movie reviews, I'm convinced that the real villains of this movie was Asha and the Queen; seeing as it was both of their respective actions that caused Magnifico to be corrupted in the first place.
@@K2SonicFan The point is that Magnifico handles the wishes the way he does for good reason (he wants to keep things peaceful and the people happy). And because Asha disagrees with how he does that, she inadvertently causes the evil she senses will put Rosas in jeopardy. Magnifico - though an arrogant douche - didn't deserve what happened to him. And his queen is awful for not trying to help him snap out of it/defend him against Asha/the kingdom; seeing as she's well aware of what made him evil (the cursed book; that he only turned to because of Asha's actions/the star's presence).
From the story, i think the king is the good guy. some of those wishes are impossible or too vague. Wishing to 'inspire' people is something you cannot predict the consequences of. At the very least, for dress lady, those scissors are magic, i think, so presumably, they make her better at it, but she still needs to actually work at it. The king also built the kingdom from scratch, if people don't like the terms, they can leave, but they don't. The wish thing is the only 'negative' they have.
The Film threat channel had contact with several former and current Disney animators talking to them about how the 'inclusivity' agenda has seen people with the wrong checkboxes pushed out in favour of promotion of untalented/inexperienced people who meet the checkboxes (and recognise they're there solely due to said 'initiatives') and the enforcement being so draconian that all creative spark is basically extinguished as everyone tries to avoid catching the multiple social tripwires just waiting to see you taken down..... hardly a surprise that the resultant product is a souless skinsuit of the past it is supposedly a 'tribute' too.
"I am not powerful enough to solve this crisis, I must use the dark and corrupt powers of the forbidden arts to give me more power." "What power did it give you?" "I can do pretty much what I could do before, but... You know... It's spooky and green."
1:32 in the anime world combining 2d and 3d is to reduce production costs. for a film that symbolizes 100 years of Disney. This kind of animation is very inappropriate 4:53 The wish world is very similar to the Soviet Union where everyone had a wish. and they only have one chance to go to college. and then get the job they will do for the rest of their lives. the king takes the wish. like the government taking freedom to maintain ssafety and peace for everyone
@thoriasunlimited4053 Tbf the movies I mentioned were all late nineties/early 2000s, but it does feel like something has been lost with Disney's animated movies
We were robbed. What would’ve worked more was if the king and queen were both evil and Asha was their daughter. Then Asha would’ve grown up thinking that keeping the wishes was the right thing and star boy had to help show her the right way. Also it would add a lot more to Asha’s character by standing against her parents since for all the other Disney princesses with evil parents they’re always stepparents (Lady Tremaine, Evil Queen, and Gothel). So the fact that a princesses actual parents are evil would’ve been so cool. I get wanting villains that are evil just to be evil back but Magnifico being a sympathetic villain would make more sense. Like due to a traumatic event he is now so obsessed with keeping everyone safe. Also I wouldn't make Asha quirky I mean she can definitely have somethings but not as much as they did. I would make her more similar to Elsa and Mulan personality rather than Anna and Rapunzel. I would also change Asha's color palette purple reminds me too much of Rapunzel and Isabella. I wish they stuck with the orange red color palette from the concept art They should've shown the effects of people forgetting their wishes like have everyone feel miserable and empty in a way Also it’s funny how they scrapped star boy but kept the obvious love song in the movie. The demo for At All Cost even has the words love you but they changed it to promise in the movie.
Lets stop pretending like Disney could do better, even if they actually wanted to. Anyone with talent in that company either left or was kicked out for less than valid reasons. With the old talent gone and the new blood being...well what you see in this movie, the animation branch of Disney is pretty much just a walking corpse trying to pass of as alive so shareholders dont jump ship.
a better way to handle this story and would have bveen so cool, is if asha, turned out to become the villain by being young and stupid and so full of herself that she doesn't think she's wrong that she ruins the way wishes work. AND if they wanted to do a clever nod to another movie with magic in it, is she could have even imprisoned the king into a lamp making him the genie
Remember [Who Framed Roger Rabbit]? 1988 blending live action actors with animation seemlessly...and it still today is a classic! What the hell is happening now Lol!?>

"Lol so random" Oh great, humor that got old by 2005. Ugh, I've seen people in completely vegetative states come up with better content than the slop Disney has been shovelling out the last several years.
Whats with this weird trend of making these "villians" likeable and understandable then pulling a last minute 180 and making them turn cartoonishly evil? Robyn hood did the same with john prince.
The sad thing is there are people at Disney who are associated with this movie who will consider this a win for the agenda. That the movie succeeded where they needed it to. Trigger the vocal minority who use their platforms to argue against DEI and Disney in general. For them, making money for Disney was always secondary.
10:07 Fun fact: The actress who voices Asha is lesbian/“openly queer”. When I learned she was going to voice her, I said, “Welp! Here’s another single Disney Princess…”
WHY does this not shock me? I was honestly half expecting Asha and the token disabled Asian to kiss because, well, they already beat it into us that "straight white men bad" lmao Side note: if a woman in hollywood says she's queer, it's usually meant to be "I'm a lesbian and I am uber obnoxious"
Maybe I'm looking to much into it, but I tought it was another remake of The Wizard of Oz saying that the magic to make your wish is already in you. That is why he only grants what you can already do, like the Wizard of Oz.
I have always disliked Rapunzel-and now I know why! She was the blueprint of quirkiness for all of the princesses after her! None of them have a unique personality.
I don't know if it was intentional, Thorias, but I love when people throw Captain Token's "constructive criticism" back at disney. "Do better." Nice. 👍👍
@@grammerpolice4153 but wasn't the whole thing that set everything in motion was the grandfather asking for his wish? If *ALL* memory of it had been removed, why would he even ask much less even know what it was?
It's sad, I saw the first trailer for this one and allowed myself to be optimistic since it looked to be a new story, possibly from a new culture being tapped into.
It really doesn’t help that Disney fired veteran animators and put inexperienced animators in charge of the whole movie.
And also hiring based on ESG and DEI
if they didn't fired the veteran animators and storytellers this trash would be twice the tragedy good looking sparkling garbage is still garbage.
The bigger problem is the script, Disney’s writing room is dead across its all studios.
Smh...
Even if they didn't, I don't think it would have helped. Wish's main problem outside its animation is its script.
Kind of like paying off your own school debt instead of wishing others would do it for you.
Very communist.. 'our magic'

Yeah we got Wish at home.
_Wish at home_
Yeah, but that would have required more thought than 'Evil king is evil because the movie needs a villain!'
If this movie was written by competent writers, yes...but these writers were not competent.
The filmmakers confused wishes with aspirations or life goals. The whole point of the movie is that you have the power to make your dreams come true, but you’re right in that these wishes are very boring. If the king can grant any wish, where are the really crazy and interesting ones?

How does Disney claim to "celebrate 100 years" of their animation history when Disney as a company is clearly ashamed of everything outside of the last 10 years?
Plus they barely make animated movies anymore and even when they do they either suck or they're mid asf.
Disney has disclaimers on all their old movies. It's so petty and politically correct. I canceled Disney+ today.
@@giovannibermudezjr Disney putting disclaimers on their old content is so lame. People don't need Disney to shame us for liking their older, much better content.
The way you described the King's character flip reminded me of Hans. An otherwise decent character abruptly turns heel for the sake of the plot.
Yeah, that's pretty much what happened.
Beauty and the Beast had that mix too.
Ugh you mean Atlantis lol. Treasure planet is great too both didn't get the recognition they deserve
Just makes me want to watch Treasure Planet again.
Even though I watched it a week ago.

When you mentioned how simplistic and achieveable through practice and hard work majority of the wishes were, it immediately brought me back to (spoilers) Puss in Boots: Last Wish -
Puss didn't want die after squandering 8 of his 9 lives.

This is amazing, and yet a multibillion dollar company couldn't think of something AT LEAST as good!
You've gotta do better, Disney! You have to step up!
I ve read it in Capn Falcon's voice
How it started: “The origin for when you wish upon a star…”
How’s it going: “Diversity Princess overthrows the sensible ruler of the kingdom.”
You gotta love how this movie also inadvertently destroys KH’s lore, fans of that franchise are probably pissed about that too.
It’s fine, the Japanese box office will be really abysmal anyway. Much like the China box office
The implication that the villain is actually the Magic Mirror from Snow White, now with a body and the freedom to do what he wants, is a concept that deserved to be in a better movie.
the villian is cinderella he just wants respect for his work and service but is disrespected instead same premise
I think if having your wishes taken and not granted did more to show it was a bad thing (like if the people all felt and looked listless and grey) then it would feel more important to return them
Disney is where magic goes to die nowadays
Ah RWBY, the show of wasted potential
Even Supernatural did it better . . .
Disney is afraid to show us more than 4 wishes because there may be a wish that is not acceptable by the "Woke of Ignorance committee".
"Woke of Ignorance committee" 😅😂
Let me guess. They didn’t like “he”
Dont suppose its because the whole "love interest" trope has been done to death, perhaps??
Plush Toys. Don't forget the merchandise opportunity.

It turns out that if you buy up rival animation studios you get to lower the bar in what it deemed 'acceptable'.
Should have made it so Asha wanted to grant EVERYONE'S wish causing chaos. The King, in his Wisdom, knows how disastrous things will get if every wish was granted (see Bruce Almighty) so his refusal comes off as being "The Bad Guy."
Right? There was such a better story staring them right in the face and they just threw it away.
What a way to bungle the possibility of a great premise.
remember the movie "Bruce Almighty" the world was in trouble when Jim gave the wishes to all the people on earth.
@@dustymcwari4468 Pretty good read.
People forget that Disney made the straight to VHS/DVD stuff too. No more DVD market means the crap pushes into the theaters.
It should push to streaming, since they have their own streaming service.

As always, watching trash so we don't have to, and entertaining us with your suffering. Thanks for the review :)
Pity about the movie, I had a slight hope it was going to subvert expectations and show the king as right and brown Rapunzel as misguided and dangerously naive, given how the trailers made the king look, but it was just the woke fighting their war against common sense as usual.
Grant ever wish really means: Communist and give people everything even if unearned and would damage all of society.
At least that movie would have been interesting and different.
Wtf do politics have to do with anything here
@@emilynewman518 why are you commenting here when you didn't even watch the video?
Also notice how the villains in modern Disney are always white and the hero is a darker skinned character…
Such a shame how Disney screwed up the animation style. Klaus used the same style I believe and it was beautiful! And Klaus was made by a more independent company. Too shame Disney! Too shame!
Fact about Klaus Disney renaissance people worked on it
If anything this movie made me appreciate more Puss in Boots The Last Wish.
As a Gen Z myself I can confirm my generation is stupid
How Wish Should Have Ended:
Asha: "I'm going to make everyone's wishes come true."
King Magnifico: "😒 Asha. You do realize that some of the citizens actually wished for evil things, right? There IS such a bad wish "
Asha: "No, there's not. Everyone's dreams will come true."
*People get killed left and right, houses are destroyed by arsonists, rich people keep stealing money from the poor, children are kidnapped by "Mr. Bad Touch", animals are offed by people who hate them, etc.*
King Magnifico: "😒 What were you saying about there being no such thing as a "bad" wish?"
Asha: *deeply regrets this* "😰 Uhhhhhh..oops."
What was their promotional budget? Did you add that in?
That production budget makes no sense to me. The money is nowhere to be seen on the screen.
Maybe some of it went up the producers' noses or something. I don't know.@@thoriasunlimited4053
How many times do you think they shot down ideas about making the king orange?
I heard somewhere that the King was the protagonist in The Princess was the villain
Me too!
I have no intention of wasting money watching this movie - but from what I've seen (via clips) and movie reviews, I'm convinced that the real villains of this movie was Asha and the Queen; seeing as it was both of their respective actions that caused Magnifico to be corrupted in the first place.
Spoilers! Asha’s a spoiled brat and Magnifico had a tragic backstory where his parents got slaughtered via dangerous magic.
@@melodyscorpion6606nah some people invaded his village but they don’t say how
@@K2SonicFan The point is that Magnifico handles the wishes the way he does for good reason (he wants to keep things peaceful and the people happy).
@@madamefluffy4788 agreed. I’m still mad how they handled him in the end. Queen’s def a traitor and most of that plot is Asha’s fault.
Phenomenal thumbnail 😂

Disney lost making good movies a long Ago
Dizzney, where dreams go to die, and nightmares begin...
And for that they deserve the failure because they were actively preventing people from being creative, based all on political shit.

This kind of animation is very inappropriate
4:53 The wish world is very similar to the Soviet Union where everyone had a wish. and they only have one chance to go to college. and then get the job they will do for the rest of their lives. the king takes the wish. like the government taking freedom to maintain ssafety and peace for everyone

I wish they stuck with the orange red color palette from the concept art
They should've shown the effects of people forgetting their wishes like have everyone feel miserable and empty in a way
Also it’s funny how they scrapped star boy but kept the obvious love song in the movie.
Why are Disney movies so bad and expensive?
Because they are not only introducing diversity in their movies, they are doing it with their staff too
It could have been a sequel to Snow White and make When you wish Upon a Star so much more impactful along with Snow Whites impact on the Disney legacy
They have an entire isle of wish merchandise in my local Walmart. Plushies of all sizes featuring the star and talking goat. Toy villain staffs. The wish girl in doll form and of course the worthless ‘collectible’ figurines.
"Lol so random"
Oh great, humor that got old by 2005. Ugh, I've seen people in completely vegetative states come up with better content than the slop Disney has been shovelling out the last several years.
3:07 Ah, I see. So it's the classic "too many cooks in the kitchen" then? Always a recipe for disaster.
Whats with this weird trend of making these "villians" likeable and understandable then pulling a last minute 180 and making them turn cartoonishly evil? Robyn hood did the same with john prince.
I was hoping that the king was going to be a Thanos type villain and have a reason for his greed, but no he just likes being the bad guy.
