I’m not Irish and am not descended from the Irish, but I travel the world as a sailor and the Irish are theeee most lovely, hospitable, down to earth people I’ve even met. Just love the Irish! Because actually it came across, as if you were saying: "Children are humans too" or "Poodles are dogs too". We hardly recognize them as such, but we ought to respect them and acknowledge their being... So you basically did the exact opposite thing. You were derogative. And YES, I totally get, that you meant it the other way around :) It's so funny.

All of my late Mum's side are Irish. Recently found out going back 110 yrs my late fathers ancestors were Irish too. I was born in Canada, my given name is Siobhan Deirdre. In Gr. 1 there was a terrifying Nun, Sister Margaret, I swear she floated, never a sound, till that damn yard stick ruler hit the desk. If it suited her we had to print our 1st name 20x before recess. I sat between a "Sue" and a "Tim". It was a miracle I saw the light of day. Another Nun suggested I do my middle name Deirdre. To this day, 55yrs old, I get it mispronounced weekly. People have suggested "shortening it" to what exactly?? I love it when people try to "school" me on my own name. 🤣

I had that experience in Armagh some years back. I phoned the youth hostel to reserve a bed and the ansaphone message sounded like Ian Paisley- really broad Ulster. When I turned up at the youth hostel the person responsible for the Ian Paisley impression turned out to be of Chinese heritage.

Everything is chill, quiet and relaxed at an Irish pub. Then when everyone gets 3 pints in em everyone starts talkin to eachother and becomes the craic. And it all happens at the same time. Like a switch. Silence to blabbering. Then we all leave at 5pm. Then meet again in the morning at 10 or 11 am when the pub opens again. The night crowd is different of course
