Working front desk at a hotel, 5am, glad to finally have some entertainment lol!
What's your favorite game when you pretend to be working at that desk?
For every buck they make,
I make a dime.
That’s why I watch Mortismal in company time.
I’m working third shift at hospital. So grateful, same
@@derekgonsoulin116 Playing Ni No Kuni 2 on my steam deck lmao
Don’t forget to check out the CLC reservations that second shift forgot to check out for the 100th time.
Played the Forges of Corruption dlc this weekend instead of the Shadow of the Erdtree dlc, and I’m glad I did. This game is awesome.
Due to my limited budget, Boltgun was the only game released in 2023 that I actually bought in that calendar year. Fortunately I'm a 40K grognard and classic Doom (and it's modding scene) is my favorite game of all time so it was money well spent.
Please if you love the boomer shooter genre and have some additional coin in 2024 try cultic. All I can think of while playing boltgun is how cultic is genuinely a masterpiece of the genre.
I think the decision to reset your weapons at the beginning of every chapter is in there pretty much for the same reason the game is split up into three separate chapters at all: It's a deliberate throwback to Doom and Duke Nukem, which did the same thing. Granted, that doesn't make it a good reason in this day and age, there were reasons they HAD to do that and they don't apply today, but it can be interesting to see them take away all the player's usual toys and see how we do with a lighter loadout again.
I can't believe the timing. I was anticipating this and i just laid down for bed. Youre the best!
Didn’t expect this, but am pleasantly surprised.
You have been cranking out some good stuff recently, thank you. I am very much looking forward to the Space Marine 2, and might replay the original this summer.
Nice. Missile pet peeve is mine now too.
Looks good. Will give it a try at some point. Good vid
These 100 percents are crazy dude! Idk how you 100 percent all these games, your a fucking beast for sure! Game looks fun, thanks for talking about it, it's on gamespass so imma go download it. Thanks man!
Spent my playtrough smashing the taunt button as much as the fire button!!!
LOL I did the same :P
Hey, Mort. Since it seems that you've been covering more Boomer Shooters recently, you should definitively give Selaco a try, a quiet recent (early access, but extremly polished) release. In think you might quite enjoy it.
selaco does look good, but damn all this ea stuff. every frickin game
@@junk3996ea stuff?
The wait for the next chapter(s) is going to rival the wait for Silksong for me.
@@junk3996I just don't touch anything until it's out of EA. Yeh it looks great but I'll just stick it on my wishlist and see you at full release 🤷🏼♂️
@@junk3996it feels like it is EA in name only TBH, more content than Cultic episode 1 already there, all working fine
Thanks for this! I didn't realize that the DLC was out yet.
I would love to see FlashGitz do a Space King video game like this... or even like High On Life. I'm not really a boomer-shooter fan, but I'd play that one.
just beat the base game and the dlc + horde mode on the hardest difficulty,
absolute blast, hope they do more
Already bought the dlc but dnf.
I really like the movement, reminds me on old Arena Shooter. You could go fast paced through the level sometime just stopped by looking for buttons😅 The Level
Design from point of the story and progress is good, the visuals/models
Thanks, game was sitting at my wishlist for a long time :)
Another great review sir!
This game is awesome, I was excited when I first saw the trailer and preordered it. I had no idea about the DLC until recently and had to get it. 29 campaign levels and horde move is pretty beefy for its price. I love this game so much I even have it for the switch. Hope they make a sequel with multiplayer or more DLC for the first game. I recommend increasing the pixel count in the graphics setting to give the game a more polished look.
I love this game. Absolutely love this game.
Nice I am definetly going to give this one a try as I am a huge Doom fan from back in the day and the recent reboots were cool but I miss the old aesthetic sometimes.
never noticed the pogression before but i’m here for it
Due to an unfortunate game crashing bug when picking up a certain powerup in chapter 1 i was unable to really sink my teeth into this game. I live vicariously through you
Started playing it a few days ago
This is definitely one of my favourite shooters! Tonnes of fun! XxxxXxxxXxxxX
It would be cool if there was a Boltgun Armor preset in Space Marine 2.
This game was fun, would recommend.
Summer sale, I'll get this
I feel like its a 10$ game
Its honestly surprising that they pretty much nailed the way an old school doom game should feel, wrapped it into w40k universe and added plenty of minute details like your footsteps, taunts and idle animation
And their previous release was a beer brewing simulator 😁
Well done by the devs
Hell yeah Mort
Bruh your anger at the misrepresentaion of the missle launcher has me weak 😂
I love this game, shotgun and a chainsword, yeee hah! I have a PC and a Xbox copy, game is awesome if you love that old Hexen, OG Doom, OG Wolfenstein, Quake games, Duke Nukem, OG Shadow Warrior. LOL I love using the controller with this game.
Tips:
- You can use the chainsword like a grapple so you can make those impossible jumps as long as your chainsword has a target.
- If you melee enemies may drop armour pts. You shoot enemies they may drop health pts ;p
Boltgun is one of my favorite games in recent years. The movement and weapons feel so good. I've beat the game on the hardest difficult several times as well as the DLC.
The game rules
The difficulty thats well balanced and not the typical bullet sponge and provides enemy variety. Thats a masaive win.
Yes! I usually play shooters on easy, not because I'm unskilled, I actually beat Doom Eternal on the hardest difficulty because it was fun, but most shooters just quadruple the enemy health and damage so they shoot you once or twice and you're dead. But you have to mag dump them.
It's why I hated the division. Enemies have melee weapons and I'm dumping mags into them while they just walk in a straight line at you and hit you a couple times. It's not engaging, fun, or unique, it feels like bullshit
I disagree
Great review as always! Morti do yo have plan to review Battle Brothers ? I feel you might enjoy that game.
Its on my list, I own it, just havent gotten around to it.
this game is stupid fun plain and simple. absolutely worth the asking price!
Its a really solid shooter, with a lot of modern first person shooters having high mobility really injects the games with that sort of energy and you can get into a zen state. With this one it was key to keep moving lest you get swarmed by nurgling, also screw those Chaos chosen!
Even though I felt the base game got a tad repetitive, I thoroughly enjoyed it and can say it deserves to stand in the category of good WH40K games! Haven’t played the dlc yet. But will one day
Well, comparing your weapon strenght against enemy toughness is mechanic lifted stright from from tabletop. Older edition had whole table, more modern ones use (a bit) simpler system where if STR is equal to enemy T, "to wound" roll is scccesfull on +4 on d6, if greater, on +3 and if twice or more greater, on +2 ( and reverse is also true, so if enemy T is greater, you wound them on +5, and if twice greater, on +6).
I very much enjoyed this game.
I played this game, because of following Under the Mayo and getting into classic boomer shooters…. And then I read the entire Horus Hersey, haha. The Emperor Protects!
I thought this game has a terrible control bug. I then realized I had worn out the W key on my keyboard
Certainly not perfect but I love Boltgun and its recent DLC. Still enjoy a play through every so often. I think the dev team got a lot of the gameplay fundamentals absolutely spot on. Easy 8/10 for me. For the Emperor!
Since you are able to 100% so many games, could you do a video on how to work on your backlog of games for those of us that get stuck not completing so many games? I have a large backlog that i want to get through while still playing the occasional new game. Thanks
Ive talked about it in a few places, but essentially I do little else besides this
Great game. I think I might hold the world record for fastest horde mode clear. Not sure.
Finally someone is covering this boomer shooter gem!
Thanks for the video. Boomer-shooter go brrr...? Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
You could play two games called "Sacrifice" and "Space hack" :)
Mortym annoyed that missiles are not rockets is what I am here for 🎉
Goalz right there. I am eyeing this game for a while :)
Allow me to reach 100% as well senpai ♥
No spoilers here. Space Marine 2 is will take place 100 years after Space Marine 1, so it will be interesting to see if anything from Bolt Gun will be referenced in Space Marine 2 with such a time gap.
Space Marines have pretty insane lifespans and on the scale of W40K 100 years is nothing so it's perfectly possible.
Hell, even a lot of the normal humans in it can very easily live several hundreds of years through expensive rejuvenant treatments.
You ever want a funny campaign shooter you should play "Bears in Space" really fun game made by like, three dudes in australia
Space Marine 2 looks entirely seperated, so I'd be surprised if we got any more story about Graia past explanations of where Titus has been the last couple hundred years.
Have you played caves of lore? Is a great game, I'd love to see a 100% review of that.
Peace.
The thing no one else tends to talk about is the fact you can slide the graphics down to look like near enough 8bit, and all the way up to a decent modern shooter.
Someone got interested in 40k after playing Rogue Trader and the turn based shooters!
More so in the lead up to RT, did a lot of research into the setting and even reviewed some games to get ready for it, but yeah I enjoy it for sure
How are you so good in playing all
types of games?
I mean he only reviews single-player RPGs, shooters, and adventure games. These aren't hard to pick up.
I stick to what I'm good at which usually involves just a time investment to master. There's plenty of genres, especially in the competitive space, that I'm not good at in any sense.
Rahul Kohli taunt button is great)
For the Emperor!
Sometimes you just want to shoot stuff and this game sounds perfect for that.
in old school style shooters at the start of new chapters you start with nothing but a simple weapon in this case the boltgun just an fyi
Gronk!
I really want to play this one but I am worried about motion sickness. Some of those old-style FPS games are messing me up. I have Ion Fury and the game is awesome but I play 10 mins and then I feel like throwing up for the next 30 mins. Tried to play Half-Life Blue Shift recently - same thing. Turning off cam-shake and head bobbing, had no effect. I think Ion Fury also has field of view setting I've changed but that didn't work either. I can watch videos of those games with no problem but playing them is a different thing. I also want to play Fortune's Run but I am 99% sure it will give me a bad case of vomitvision.
Great game! Now I want Rogue Trader with Boltgun combat
THE EMPEROR IS PLEASED
"it's a rocket, not a missile" = telltale sign of having military experience.
Had no idea this game had dlc
I love the game but one issue, my aim when moving
Free on Game Pass pretty decent game
Seems a good dad game
The taunts are great, MY ARMOUR IS CONTEMPT!
My fellow military man! Nice to meet someone who knows the difference between a rocket and a missile 😊
I do get the idea of where this comes from, as the general idea for people is that a rocket is an unguided vessel for propelled payload and missile is a guided one. It's kind of, sort of right, but not really.
I have to be the "well, akshuyally *pushes up glasses*" guy this time.
Rocket is more of a means of transportation, it's just a vessel (can be one that carries some sort of cargo, warheads, whatever) that uses jet propulsion or otherwise, not using air around it for combustion. So, a missile usually is a *rocket* with a warhead strapped onto it, it does not have to be guided.
But yes, the general parts of population do refer to an unguided missile as a rocket (since it basically is just a rocket + payload, nothing else) and a guided one as a "true missile", since it involves not just a rocket and a payload, but lots of other parts, like the control unit, targeting, guidance systems, etc. So, we could say that you are not wrong and I just wanted to explain the whole thing a little bit more, without just going "umm, akshyually, you wrong".
This reminds me of the usual thing where people call Onagers catapults and Trebuchets are called Trebuchets, when in reality, both are catapults, just different sub-types of it. But media usually calls one a catapult and the other one in it's specific name(Trebuchet), so people often go telling others that what they called a "catapult" is a Trebuchet. They are right, but usually don't know that the other person is right too, lmao.
Sorry for the ramble, hopefully, I did not offend you. Have a nice day!
The plague toads are tiny in this game while in Total War Warhammer 3 they are gigantic monstrosities.
There are two kinds, small and big here
Everything looks so fast, I swear the game makes me feel old haha
Boltgun gave me motion sickness almost immediately. That almost never happens to me. It's one of the few games I've ever refunded.
I absolutely ended up getting lost in the levels and just dropped the game. I enjoyed the review but I guess it's not for me when I played it.
How does a single ultramarine take out a great unclean one AND a lord of change?
By virtue of being a video game protagonist.
Back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, side to side...
3:36 exactly why I passed on this earlier
Video posted 40 seconds ago... i'm here
Got halfway through Boltgun and stopped, it's fun but damn does it get repetitive fast.
If you liked this one you might also enjoy selaco
I love this game but i SUCK at it
You are not the only one
The secret is: keep always on the move and use specific weapons for specific enemy types.
For example: these annoying Chaos Champions that rush you are easily killed with the Melta or the Volkite ray gun. The little Nurglings that usually attack in groups, are most effectively dispatched with the Plasma gun, specially if you charge it, the splash damage can take out several of them.
Also, use the charging/melee attack for the low-level Chaos Cultists, in order to conserve ammo, when you're in one of these big arena maps.

This FOV is a heresy !
I got this game a while ago, I suck at it, but is great. Since you mentioned GW gave you some codes, that includes Mechanicus? Cuz that game is fantastic and deserve even more attention (praised be Lord Mandalore, and his wisdom). Non Warhammer request: Battlestar Galactica Deadlock, it is fucking amazing and the soundtrack alone is worth the money. Sorry the ramble, old fan of the channel, keep the good work, bye!
Deadlock is amazing, it's only flaw is being turn based
Played and reviewed mechanicus already a while back, looking forward to the sequel.
@@MortismalGaming oh gods, sorry I forgot XD Deadlock recomendations still stands though
Oh jeez this game even has weapon strength against toughness
Do you think you'll ever get deeper into 40k?
Video games are my primary interest, I do enjoy the minis just because I think theyre cool, but I probably won't be ever playing the actual war game no.
Played this in gamepass 2 months ago. It was good fun for 1-2 hours but after that I lost interest. Sadly none of the levels had anything worth remembering.
Describes just about every 40k action game
I've had this same feeling for many boomer shooters. They look cool and pull me in but after a couple of hours they just get repetitive. I guess the novelty wore off.
Same
c
Kind of get that pet peev with the missiles and rockets. I'm the same way with android and cyborgs :p.
My pet peeve is the term boomer shooter. The number of boomers that play anything later than Myst is so tiny. Gen x shooter doesn't sound as good though
Idk. It got kinda repetitive after a while. There's only so much of the same corridors and enemies a man can take before it all becomes a blurr
Why I never played this in a sea of sub-par games is a travesty.
Couldn't for the life of me get into the game. Played it and refunded at the hour mark. Consistently felt like I was playing a weird mod rather than a stand-alone game. That being said it costs less than a couple of coffees so it is what it is.
If you are going to play more old style fps games then you need to play Hedon.
How can I be strong in my ignorance when Mort is over here dropping the heretical knowledge every single day?
This game smells like; Pantera, Megadeth and Testament
I dig the graphic style, but I admittedly got pretty bored of this one after a bit. Granted, I’m not a huge boomer shooter guy.
Its a OK game, didnt really hold my attention beyond an hour in. Feels clunky
I enjoyed my 2-3 hours with this game, but it quickly got stale afterwards. Definitely not worth it at full price imo.
I liked the game, but hated the lack of map. I get it, its a boomer shooter, but still. Id get sucked into the game just to get frustrated wandering around the map minutes after
This killed the game for me too. Just completely kills the flow of a game like this, which is a shame cause I had some really fun moments with it when I knew where the enemies were.
If you liked this you will love doom eternal
