    One of the things that always amazes me about Avi is how agile he is across a his range, and his precision when dancing around his upper and lower range. It’s like vocal parkour. In other news, I’m loving the +20 minute format, especially with the exploration of technique AND theory. I find sub 12 minute videos too short to enjoy.

    Ah, what a beautiful rendition with those two amazing voices! ❤️ I could listen to either one of them all day… man, especially Avi’s low, tender riffing. And all those luscious, moving chords with Peter’s high and Avi’s low. ❤️
    I sang this song as an exercise in a Diction class, 😂 but this is a magical, soul-lifting version, to say the least!
    I totally get the production side - I add in countdowns or clicks when I have a nebulous entrance, too. 👍

    • @charlottevan_8
      @charlottevan_8 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Peter, if you do react to "Full Moon", I recommend you do the official studio recording, as it's fuller and more dramatic, with more layers and Mike Mogis's production. If you'd prefer, however, there's an acoustic version he did last year for a TH-cam Space LA mini concert, where it's just him and his guitar, bringing a real Spanish flavor to the song.

    I know that you seem to be interested in more songs using a bass component, however I’d like your take on a song that he did with his wife Evynne called “The Prayer”. Every time I hear it it gives me the shivers. It is more in an opera like (?) tone and part of it is sung in Italian. The way their voices blend and diverge is awesome (full of awe) for me. Thank you. I enjoy your critique of the various songs you have done . Makes me think and go back and listen again to those songs. Thank you!

    This song is exceptional in this arrangement. It is as if it calms me in a sub-cellular level, the harmonies cutting painlessly through my body into the core. While I was writing a novel during the last years it was often on endless repeat, as it anchored me to the melancholy of the hero (when he knew he had been an idiot again) longing for the love of his life. Listening to this analysis was a delight. To be able to share the love of beauty and appreciation for this level of art with total strangers is awesome, in the correct meaning of that word.

    I definitely appreciate your in depth analysis as I have mentioned many times. I love that u take all the time to go thru these so amazingly with such precision. I am a huge fan of this song, I've noticed since I went down the Peter rabbit hole, that he is more of a classical arrangement oriented guy and I have been a fan of most everything he does and I love that he brought Avi on this, 2 amazing voices and just so smoothly blended. I'm not gonna lie, the first time I heard this, not only did I get chills which happens a lot when I listen to beautifully sung music, but it actually brought tears to my eyes bc there was just so much emotion in the singing of this. You can just see the whole story if u close your eyes. Just so beautiful, I love that those notes are so drawn out and lengthy, you get to hear the amazing texture of their voices as they move thru them. Thank you again for another awesome analysis, took us to real soul church! Can't wait for more.

    Eric Whitacre? A Boy and a Girl? Then you need Voces8, and their performance of that piece. They are positively brilliant at it. If you're familiar with the piece, but have never heard them sing it, please give a shot at a reaction as well as analysis, and listen for the first time on camera. If you don't like the result, don't post it. But at least give us fans a shot at a bit of a reaction from you. You can always give us your usual analysis after having listened first. If you like all choral with crunchy harmonies, you will enjoy PTXs Run to You.

      Avi primarily wrote Run to You with Kevin on the chorus so that makes sense. Prior to Pentatonix Avi was looking at either singing opera or becoming a choral director. Both of them got to sing all the way through instead of only providing the instrumentals.

    Peter, I'm not a singer: I really enjoyed your reaction/knowledge and listening to your speaking voice is addictive! I am a new subscriber, please check out Dimash: SOS, Sinful Passion...and more. I think it would be great to hear what you think. Thanks for your expertise! ( Avi is always so smooth )

    The lengths of the videos are fine stop stressing over it and just enjoy yourself, that comes through and sells it better than anything. I'm working from home and have you running on autoplay in the background just 'cause it's nice.
    I prefer songs you don't need a musical degree to find the melody for average listening, but I really like that you have found a variety of styles to poke with sticks. I'm kinda curious for the day you get brave enough to react to something you actually don't like. (although I hope it will be for an interesting reason whatever that will be)

    We definitely love the bass! And your videos too. Another great analysis. When I first heard this song it really affected me but I didn’t know why. Your analysis has explained it now. Would love to hear your thoughts on “bass face” ~ Is it a thing that bass singers can’t avoid looking “mean” or scowling when they sing low? Is it natural biological thing that happens? Been hearing about it lately. Thanks Peter.

    • @PeterBarber
      @PeterBarber  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bass singers do often feel like craning their necks down helps with low notes, but truthfully it just closes off the vocal tract and limits sound, which is why you don't see bass singer in opera doing it -- gotta keep the chin up for full power! But you can get away with it in styles that use microphones, and it really helps in music videos so you can see which singer is "singing" the low notes, because people watching are always interested

      @@PeterBarber Thanks so much for replying. Is the scowl/frown on the forehead automatic too so that you have to concentrate to not do it, especially if you’re acting like in an opera? Love your videos.
